Abstract

The nucleic acid polymer translocating functionality of helicases is discussed. The two types of helicases, SuperFamily1 and SuperFamily2, appear to exhibit preference for single- or double-stranded substrates bound to the enzyme through the bases of phosphodiester backbone.
