Abstract

Key deer are a subspecies of the common white-taile deer which are found exclusively on the Florida Keys. The deer have adapted to the island climate by gradually shrinking in size to 24-30 inches tall at the shoulder. The author describes her encounter with a Key deer at the National Key Deer Refuge on Big Pine Key.
