Beta-hydrogen-containing sodium alkoxides as suitable bases in palladium-catalyzed aminations of aryl halides

Results suggest that the reaction mechanism either involves the displacement of the alkoxide from a palladium-aryl-alkoxide complex intermediate with an amine to form a palladium-amido-aryl complex at a faster rate than its reduction to the palladium-aryl-hydride complex or no formation of the intermediate.
