Abstract

Most AIDS drugs do not increase the risk of premature birth, low birth weight, stillbirth, or low Apgar score in HIV-infected pregnant women, according to a study of 2,123 women. Women who took protease inhibitors had three times the risk of having a very-low-birth-weight baby. However, the risk was still low, occurring in 5% of women who took protease inhibitors and 2% of women who did not.
