Diketo compounds with (trifluoromethyl)trimethylsilane: double nucleophilic trifluoromethylation reactions

Abstract: Results reveal that gamma-ketoesters and gamma-diketones serve as precursors to both mono(trifluoromethyl)alcohols and bis(trifluoromethyl)diols as indicated by the cesium fluoride catalyzed trifluoromethylation of various alpha,beta and gamma diketo compounds with (trifluoromethyl)trimethylsilane. The yields of monoaddition and diaddition products are 70-75% and 5-10%, respectively.
