Research shows that in mutants harboring a null mutation of phosphatidylglycerophosphate synthase encoding gene pgsA, lipoprotein gene deletion causes unmodified lipoprotein to accumulate in the inner membrane and linking to the peptidoglycan leading to an anmolous anchoring of the inner membrane to peptidoglycan and cell lysis.
