Abstract

This blue flag served as the regimental colors of the 47th Ohio Volunteer Infantry. The United States arms is painted in the flag's center. The arms consists of a bald eagle looking to the right (or fly side) and holding a green olive branch in its left talon and a bundle of arrows in its right talon. A shield with red and white stripes and a blue upper portion is positioned on the eagle's breast. The eagle holds in its beak a light red scroll with gold lettering. Thirty-two gold painted stars are arranged in a double-arc pattern above the arms (due to deterioration some stars have been lost). A red banner with no text is positioned below the arms. The flag has gold silk fringe on its top, right, and bottom sides.
