Abstract

This blue flag served as the regimental colors of the 96th Ohio Volunteer Infantry. The United States arms is painted in the flag's center. The arms likely consisted of a bald eagle looking to the right (or fly side) and holding an olive branch in its right talon and a bundle of arrows in its left talon. The eagle likely held a scroll in its beak featuring the motto "E PLURIBUS UNUM". A banner is positioned below the arms. Due to deterioration most of the banner and the arms are no longer intact. Thirty-two gold stars are still intact in a double-arc pattern above the arms (due to deterioration some stars have been lost). The flag has gold fringe on its top, right, and bottom sides
