Abstract

This blue flag served as the regimental colors of the 18th Ohio Volunteer Infantry. The United States arms is painted in the flag's center. The arms consists of a bald eagle looking to the right (or fly side) and holding a green olive branch in its left talon and a bundle of five arrows in its right talon. A shield with red and white stripes and a blue upper portion is positioned on the eagle's breast. The eagle holds in its beak a light red scroll with gold outline with the motto "E Pluribus Unum" in gold lettering. Thirty-four gold painted stars are arranged in a double-arc pattern above the arms. The words "Stone River." appear above the stars in painted gold lettering. Below the arms is a red banner with the text "18th REG'T. O.V.I.U.S.A." in gold letters. The flag has braided and knotted gold silk fringe 5 cm in length on its top, right, and bottom sides
