Exploring Links between Naval and Civilian Careers: Lateral Transfer and Eight-Year Careers.

The report examines two specific feasibility areas: lateral transfer of personnel between the Navy and industry, and short naval careers. During the course of the study, discussions were held with senior representatives of 38 corporations, with labor union officials and with several Navy areas, including sections of BuPers and the Naval Training Command. The study has been exploratory in nature and has sought primarily to determine the reaction of industry and of labor to the two concepts. (Modified author abstract)
