Abstract
- In the modern business environment, there is growing number of companies placing weight on sustainability-related issues, such as waste management, local communities, use of resources etc. At the same time such stakeholders as investors, consumers, employees and communities are increasingly interested in understanding company’s efforts and progresses in the area of sustainability. With that respect, sustainability reporting emerging as a very important tool, which allows companies to increase transparency and accountability of their businesses, while also helps them to improve sustainability performance. This study has been base on the leading sports and utility transportation company, named Thule. The purpose of this study was to identify if there was a need for Thule in sustainability reporting and how the perspective report might look like. In order to achieve these goals, we conducted online survey, phone and personal interviews among 21 different size, business sector and location companies all around the world. Based on the conducted research and considering the current trends, perspective benefits and Thule’s future plans, we identified the set of reasons for Thule to start the reporting on its sustainability performance. The research also allowed us, to suggest a general view of how the perspective report could look like, as well as to give some general suggestions on what sort of perspective challenges Thule might be faced with when starting the reporting. In addition, the companies experience that has been collected during the study combined with the suggestions from 3 professional consultants, allowed us to define some general aspects of the reporting process and consequently, to give some general recommendations on the process of organization of the reporting.
