Abstract

A geopotential model is a very useful tool in many geodetic applications. Particularly, when remove-restore techniques are applied, it is convenient to use the most representative geopotential model for the test area. Therefore, an analysis of the most recent available geopotential models is needed in order lo decide which one is the most appropriate for our purposes. In Canary Islands, the Insiitute of Astronomy and Geodesy (UCM-CSIC) is developing several geodetic applications that need a geoporential model. In this work, we analyse the models EGM96, complete to degree and order 360, and GPlV198, up to degree and order 720. First, we compare them each other. Next, we contrast them with terrestrial and marine gravimetric data and with a gravimetric geoid in the area. Finally, we analyse the differences with a mean sea surface model. Here we present the obtained results and the conclusions about the most appropriate model for the region.
