Prevalencia de diabetes mellitus tipo 2 y factores asociados en los pacientes mayores de 40 años, Hospital Vicente Corral Moscoso Cuenca 2013

Abstract
- Objetive Determine the prevalence of type 2 diabetes mellitus and the factors associated in patients older than 40 years admitted to the Department of Internal Medicine of the Vicente Corral Moscoso Hospital of Cuenca between June and November 2013. Methodology A cross-sectional study was performed on a representative, randomized sample. The sample was calculated based on the 95% confidence level, 4% inference error and 19% smoking prevalence. Data were collected directly and analyzed in the software Epi Info 7. Results The mean age was 63.8 years, women 55.34%. The prevalence of type 2 diabetes was 33.98%, 39.47% in women and 38.29% in ≥ 65 years. The association between type 2 diabetes with sedentary provided RP: 2.48 p <0.05, with mixed dyslipidemia RP: 2.34 p <0.05, with family history of diabetes RP: 2.07 p <0.05, with central obesity RP: 1.80 p <0.05, with hypertriglyceridemia RP 1.65 p <0.05, with hypercholesterolemia p <0.05 with hypertension OR: 1.61 p <0.05, with diabetic dyslipidemia RP: 1.59 p <0.05, with overweight and obese RP: 1.40 p <0.05, with binge drinking RP: 0.93 p = 0.63, with smoking RP:0.90 p = 0.61 and with hazardous alcohol consumption RP: 0.72 p = 0.29. Conclusion The prevalence of type 2 diabetes mellitus was 33.98%, significantly associated with sedentary lifestyle, mixed dyslipidemia, family history of diabetes, central obesity, hypertriglyceridemia, hypercholesterolemia, hypertension, diabetic dyslipidemia, overweight and obesity.
