Unterricht in der Muttersprache bei den Deutschen in der Sowjetunion: eine Bestandsaufnahme

The purpose of this paper is to analyse how the Soviet Germans get instruction in their mother tongue in the Soviet school system. As the extended analysis of the Soviet-German newspapers and journals as well as the results of 27 in-depth-interviews show, the situation of the mother tongue teaching has not changed from the early 60s up to now. The paper examines the reasons for the deteriorating status of the mother tongue teaching and shortly offers a perspective for ameliorations.
