Abstract
- This bachelor thesis concerns the possibilities for acquisition of information literacy among online roleplayers participating in both PBEM/PBP games and MMORPGs, as well as the mediatization of social ties. A case is made for online roleplaying as a vehicle for acquiring/improving information literacies, and as a method of expanding and strengthening weak mediatized social ties. The potentials inherent to online roleplaying in relation to acquiring/improving information literacy are explored, and a conclusion is made that online roleplaying can facilitate the learning process and contribute to the acquisition/improvement of literacies to some degree: primarily game literacy, and to a lesser degree other related information literacies.
