Drilling and blasting research at the Noranda Technology Centre.
-
Abstract
- Noranda's drilling and blasting programme provides technical support to their mines and has also included activities such as the development of blast design software, instrumentation for blast monitoring and blasthole deviation survey instruments, blast damage studies and drilling optimisation. Achievements of the programme include the development of the Noranda accelorometer, a blast monitor, a borehole survey system, the BLASTCAD design software and plasma blasting technology. Current research includes work on drilling accuracy, real-time drill-bit location, real-time drill set-up instrumentation, a total drill alignment system, drill angle sensors, fragmentation measurement, pastefill blast damage and inverse drop raise blasting.<br />Noranda's drilling and blasting programme provides technical support to their mines and has also included activities such as the development of blast design software, instrumentation for blast monitoring and blasthole deviation survey instruments, blast damage studies and drilling optimisation.
