Abstract
- An extensive review is presented of the history, occurrence, geology, mining, production and applications of mercury. Deposits and mines described in detail are Almaden in Spain, which produced more than 250 000 t Hg or more than a third of the world's total output, Huancavelica in Peru, Idrija in Slovenia and Monte Amiata in Italy. Environmental issues are also discussed and details given of the development of museums and geological parks at disused mines and other facilities.<br />An extensive review is presented of the history, occurrence, geology, mining, production and applications of mercury.
