Abstract

This paper describes the results of a systematic study, carried out at iron ore mines in India, of uncertainties in vibration analysis due to problems in determining the actual amount of explosive detonated within a specific time interval and the number of holes effectively contributing to the resulting particle velocity. Guidelines were derived for determining the effective charge-weight in vibration analysis of blasts. Optimum delay intervals between detonations were recommended to control the impact of vibrations on structures.<br />This paper describes the results of a systematic study, carried out at iron ore mines in India, of uncertainties in vibration analysis due to problems in determining the actual amount of explosive detonated within a specific time interval and the number of holes effectively contributing to the resulting particle velocity.
