Abstract

Treball desenvolupat dins el marc del programa 'European Project Semester'.
The aim of this project is to retrofit an old cartesian 3D Printer that does not work due to outdated components and non-functioning electronics. The objective is to design a double retractable head solution and replace the components outdated in order to improve the quality and efficiency of the printer. Due to Covid-19 lockdown and the team not being able to attend the laboratory and work of the printer, a plan B was defined so the final objective was to complete a full CAD design of the printer with all necessary parts and simulated, together with the retractable dual nozzle head solutions. This will allow the project to be continued at a future date by another EPS group. After analysing the existing printer, the new components where discussed and decided. The filament material changed to Nylon X due to the high mechanical properties that provides, once the filament was decided, the new two nozzles, hotend, extruder, heated bed and filament sensor had been chosen. Also, the two retractable head solutions with different mechanical system were designed together with a manual closing system to increase the room temperature of the printer, the support for the new screen and the heated bed interface with millimetre levelling system. Overcoming the pandemic the project was adapted to its capabilities and it was achieved. A complete CAD model of the new printer with the new components and double head solution shows the new features the old 3D printer retrofitted will have.
Outgoing
