Interleukin-17 and Interleukin-22: key cytokines in tissue inflammation

IL-17 and IL-22 are signature cytokines of T helper (Th) 17 and Th22 cells linking adaptive and innate immune responses via modulation of epithelial cell functions. The present thesis demonstrates that pro- and anti- inflammatory functions of Interleukin (IL)-17 and IL-22 in allergic human diseases depend from a local, inflammatory microenvironment in the tissue.
IL-17 und IL-22 sind die sog. Signaturzytokine von T Helfer (Th) 17 und Th22 Zellen und verknüpfen adaptive und innate Immunreaktionen durch die funktionelle Modulation von Epithelzellen. Diese Arbeit konnte aufzeigen, dass der pro-und anti-inflammatorische Beitrag von IL-17 und IL-22 zum Ergebnis einer Entzündungsreaktion stark von einem lokalen Mikromilieu abhängt.
