Abstract

Nowadays, the commonly adopted approach of wireless power is based on two magnetically coupling coils. Since the Tesla’s era, there has not been any serious attempt to transmission an electrical on a surface. This thesis investigates the feasibility of using surface wave antennas for wireless power transmission over the ocean. Methodology: The theory behind surface wave antennas and their properties were first explored. Electromagnetic simulations were done to model the performance of the system under diverse conditions. Based on the theoretical prediction as well as our simulation results, we theorized that the proposed system can theoretically transfer power over extended distances with minimal attenuation, and the performance is dependent on the frequency of operation, the length of the antenna, reflection of the surface and the transmission range between the transmitter and receiver.
