Abstract
- Engagement has its beginnings in the work environment and due to the positive results, its research has been transferred to the academic context, in which the commitment and motivation of students with respect to their career of study is analyzed. The general objective of this research was to describe the levels of engagement presented by third and ninth cycle students of Sociology at the University of Cuenca according to sociodemographic data in the academic period September 2023-February 2024, and as specific objectives: 1) to identify the level of engagement of Sociology students considering the dimensions of vigor, dedication and absorption; 2) to compare the dimensions of engagement of Sociology students according to sociodemographic data. The methodological design was quantitative, non-experimental with descriptive scope, and the sample consisted of 56 third and ninth cycle students of the Faculty of Sociology. The Utrecht Work Engagement Student Questionnaire (UWES-S 17) was used to determine the levels of the dimensions of engagement. The results showed that the levels of the dimensions of engagement were between very low and low. Also, in the sociodemographic variables: age, cycle, sex and career choice, low levels predominated. In conclusion, based on the levels obtained, it was evidenced that Sociology students presented low levels of engagement.
