Abstract

Emotional dependence is understood as the constant need for attention and approval from one person to another, putting the welfare of others above one's own. In this sense, the present study aimed to identify emotional dependence in couple relationships in third and ninth-cycle students of the Faculty of Psychology of the University of Cuenca from September 2023 - February 2024. The design was non-experimental, quantitative, and cross-sectional with a descriptive scope. The sample was non-probabilistic by convenience since only students from the third and ninth cycles were considered, with 55 participants grouped into 31 participants of the third cycle and 24 of the ninth cycle. The instruments used were the sociodemographic form and the Emotional Dependence Questionnaire. The results show that most of the participants are at a medium level of emotional dependence, with the female sex presenting the highest level of emotional dependence.
