Abstract
- In 1931, some fragments of stone Roman artifacts were found in the foundation of a modern building in Milan. They were probably originally reused in Late Antiquity during the construction of the walls of Maximian. Some fragments are today preserved in the Civic Archaeological Museum in Milan, while others have been lost. Three fragments were part of a frieze (or more than one) and their original display is unknown. One, today lost, showed a soldier, while the other two show an image of Victory and the lower part of a male figure, with a long mantle and a naked leg and foot, whose skin was completely covered with polychromy. The aim of the paper is a preliminary report about the stone fragments, their context and iconography, with an addendum about the traces of polychromy on the male figure’s skin.
