-
Abstract
- The report recommends government actions that should be taken concerning (1) the coordination of information dissemination and research related to the< effects of pesticides; (2) the control or elimination of the use of specific persistent pesticides in the United States, and the development of standards for the exposure of humans to insecticides in food, water, and air; and (3) regulation and legislation concerning pesticide development, testing and use. These recommendations are based on the extensive reviews of the literature included as Part 2 of the report. The topics reviewed were: (1) uses and benefits; (2) contamination; (3) effects on non-target organisms other than man; (4) effects on man; (5) carcinogenicity; (6) interraction (in target and non-target organisms); (7) mutagenicity; and (8) teratogenicity (abnormalities of pre-natal origin). Bibliographies are included in each review. Reviews indicate needed research as well as available data. Possible alternative means of pest control are considered in reviews 1, 2, and 3. (AL)
