Abstract

A pilot paraprofessional training program in urban and community development for local government technicians was taught by Midlands Technical Education Center for 1 quarter, with 6 weeks of concentrated academic instruction and 6 weeks internship. The academic and internship phases of the pilot program are described and summarized. The program was designed with the idea of being a 'transferrable educational package' applicable to other institutions. Exhibits of Midlands Technical Education Center are shown, including a course description, syllabus, and evaluation reports. Employers evaluated the program and their interns, and interns likewise summarized their experiences. The appendix includes a comprehensive planning check-list, course descriptions, a copy of the agreement establishing the Central Midlands Planning Council, selections in the geography of planning, a zoning ordinance, excerpts from the contract and a bibliography.
