Abstract
- This task force report examines the University of Wyoming's current allocation practices, the allocations themselves, and the expenditure process according to how effectively they support the university library's collection development goals. Individual aspects of the current allocation process are reviewed, including the university budget planning process; the process of internal allocations and expenditures of library materials funds, particularly approval plans, serials/monographs, format, location, and non-material allocations; and the process of obligation and expenditure of allocated funds. Strengths and weaknesses of the current allocations and expenditure process are discussed. Recommendations are presented for allocations, use of qualitative data to establish subject allocations, subject specialist/liaison responsibility for allocation expenditures, allocation by subject, nonprint formats, approval plans, serials/periodicals allocations, internal library allocations, payment of non-material fees from acquisitions funds, and an automated online acquisitions system. The formal charge of the Task Force on Allocations Practices, annual allocation procedure schedule, summary of factors of major allocations formulas, allocation request forms, suggested subject categories for library allocations, and a list of automated acquisitions system features are appended.
