Abstract
- This document is the result of two regional workshops (attended by representatives of 16 Asian countries) on the preparation of vocational and technical education teachers in Asia. Chapter 1 lists the objectives for the workshops, countries representated at each, and the officers for each. Chapter 2 gives an overall review of the present status of vocational education as well as the trends and issues in the participating countries. Chapter 3 contains a series of guidelines that the participants considered useful for curriculum construction. (Among the areas addressed are the levels of staff to be trained; the age, educational qualifications, and industrial experience of those entering training; the patterns of program delivery; who should develop curriculum; and the broad competencies to be developed.) Chapter 3 also contains a matrix that shows at what level various individuals (practical arts teachers, vocational teachers, technical teachers, training officers in industry, and educational administrators) should be trained in the following specific areas: pedagogical studies; industrial experience; subject specialization; general and liberal studies; and educational research and management. Also in chapter 3 are course objectives, course descriptions, and a design format for any program. Chapter 4 offers conclusions and recommendations. The appendices list workshop participants and summaries of reports on vocational education in the individual Asian countries participating. (CML)
