Abstract

This self-instructional unit for supervisors and managers in the British hotel and catering industry is based on the view that problems in staff recruitment and retention are directly linked to the level of job satisfaction. The document begins with an introduction and advice on how to use the unit. Five sections cover the following topics: (1) how staff view their work; (2) conditions of the job; (3) staff motivation; (4) job design; and (5) recruitment.
