The program, developed by the Montana Office of Public Instruction in compliance with newly adopted state standards, seeks to educate children with respect to the importance of self-responsibility in achieving and maintaining a healthy lifestyle, encourages the establishment of health behaviors that can be maintained throughout life; and allows the principles of wellness to be integrated throughout the curriculum. The pamphlets include: a position paper that discusses the incorporation of comprehensive health programs into the public school curriculum, an introduction to the Health Enhancement Program; learner outcomes (K-12); resources; a conceptual model for a health enhancement curriculum; Montana's adolescent health status; a description of the comprehensive health education program that comprises a planned sequential K-12 curriculum addressing physical, mental, emotional, and social dimensions of health; and year 2000 objectives.
