Abstract

This activity booklet was designed to accompany a floating barge exhibition entitled "Always a River" that brought together the experiences of the past, the opportunities of the present, and the hopes of the future afforded by the Ohio River. The interdisciplinary activities in this booklet aim at enriching the lives of young people and making them more knowledgeable of the ecological and environmental impact that the Ohio River exerts on their lives. Topics include: the river and its tributaries; geology; prehistoric dwellers; surveying and mapping; human-made changes; settlement; environment and ecosystem; commerce, navigation, and industry; imagination; organizations; and local cities and towns. A list of resources and pictures of various types of boats are included. (JRH)
