Abstract
- This document takes a look at the roots of aggression. Constant exposure to violence in the media along with the drug culture has played a pivotal role in the growth of violence among youth. The poor nurturing of the very young contributes to the problem, and early trauma can inhibit children's concentration, impede learning, hinder attachment, and blunt empathy. These changes predispose children to impulsive violent acts. A question and answer format was adopted for this document in order to provide a direct way to ask difficult questions. Topics addressed include: the reasons to study violence in very young children; the role of discipline in reducing or increasing violence tendencies; the role of pre-school play in preventing aggression and violence; and the role of the media in eliciting aggressive behavior. Key references are included after questions and at the end of the book to provide additional information. (Contains 23 references.) (JDM)
