Abstract
- Commercialism in schools is the topic of this transcribed presentation. It addresses advertisements on school buses and educational websites; schools and districts exclusive agreements with bottling companies to sell only their products; corporate marketing to schools; corporate presence at educational conferences; corporate sponsorship of curriculum materials; and similar commercial activities in schools. The presentation begins with a history of commercialism in schools and follows with a discussion of the difference between education and marketing. The presentation goes on to discuss details of marketing campaigns aimed at schools; the costs of corporate support for education; the obesity problem among school-aged children; and education management organizations.
