This publication reports trends in teen childbearing, adolescent sexual activity, and sexually transmitted diseases in the nation, in each state, and in large cities using data from the 2002 National Center for Health Statistics (NCHS). Rates of teenage childbearing continue to steadily decline, and the 2002 rates are historic lows for each age group. The percent of teens with four or more lifetime partners has also declined from 19% of high school students in 1991 to 14% in 2002. The chlamydia rate among 15-19-year-old-females showed an increase of approximately 20% since 1997. The rates of gonorrhea declined slightly. (GCP)
