Abstract

This resource provides tools needed to create compelling booktalks featuring outstanding young adult novels that are mainstays in library collections. For each of the 100 titles selected, there is background information on the book and the author, a list of principal characters, a detailed plot summary, critical comment and notes on suitability, material on key themes and subjects, passages for booktalking, and selected titles that link these classics to contemporary titles. Following the preface, this book contains the following chapters: (1) A Brief Guide to Booktalking; (2) Teenage Life and Concerns (20 titles); (3) Social Concerns and Problems (17 titles); (4) Science Fiction and Fantasy (18 titles); (4) Historical Fiction and Other Lands (15 titles); (5) Adventure and Mystery Stories (15 titles); (6) Animal Stories (5 titles); (7) Sport Stories (5 titles); and (8) Important Nonfiction (5 titles). An Author Index; a Title Index; and a Subject Index complete the book.
