Abstract

OCLC Research is one of the world's leading centers devoted exclusively to the challenges facing libraries and archives in a rapidly changing information technology environment. The mission of OCLC is to expand knowledge that advances OCLC's public purposes of advancing libraries and librarianship. The goal is to help libraries plan with confidence, position with effect, and make a greater impact by providing them with new knowledge, evidence and models. OCLC focuses on several areas which are described here. These are at the intersection between member interests, OCLC directions, and their particular competencies. The areas are: (1) Knowledge; (2) Evidence; and (3) Models. OCLC organizes work around four themes: (1) Research Collections and Support; (2) Data Science; (3) Understanding the System-wide Library, and (4) User Studies. This report presents highlights of OCLC's accomplishments in 2014 for each of these areas.
