Abstract

This exploratory study analyzed disconnects that contribute to preventing water management organizations from offering vocational courses to southeast Texas school district students. Opportunities offered through legislative support and community services give school districts access to resources and training to prepare students for careers in the water treatment industry. The investigation assessed education impediments preventing workforce training organizations from providing tacit and explicit knowledge to students attending southeast school districts. Semi-structured interviews captured water industry leader viewpoints associated with the Water Environment Association of Texas (WEAT) regarding unavailable water industry service support. Research results revealed that the lack of support comes from an inability to make the public cognizant of resources and opportunities provided by the water industry. Low brand recognition was also a reason people remain unaware of the opportunities water management leaders offer throughout southeast Texas. Community involvement can make citizens aware of the benefits associated with water treatment, while brand awareness can improve trust and name recognition.
