The goal of this study was to comment, analyze and categorize in a descriptive way the generational lines and application of knowledge (GLAK) for various products of scientific research conducted in Mexico in relation to the integration of Information and Communication Technologies (ICTs) to the educational process. The main objectives were: to identify the specific type of population the research would be directed to, to compare the types of population with the greater and lesser number of research studies made, to compare the GLAK with greater and lesser number of studies, and to identify emerging fields of investigation. The methodology considered inclusion criteria in order to select repositories and types of documents to be analyzed (a total of 470 research papers were selected). The GLAKs upon which the research studies were to be conducted were also defined. Within the results, we found that the education levels with the greater and lesser number of students with regard to higher education and preschool education, respectively. The main voids of knowledge were found in the management and quality areas of educational programs, as well as educational policies related to ICTs. The emerging fields of research were related to the education of older adults, indigenous populations, and students with special needs. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

This paper presents a summary of the experience in implementing the distance senior high school education in Mexico and effects on equity for the populations whose geographic, demographic and social features marginalize them from conventional educational provision. The study is based on national education policies that prioritize the equity at educational services with quality and relevance by setting strategies related with the educational use of information and communication technologies (ICTs) to deliver these services to populations whose conditions and characteristics do not justify the creation of conventional educational services. The study assesses some results from this experience such as the extension of coverage, service efficiency and the students' performance. The results of this analysis suggest that these students' efficiency and performance is not significant different from traditional students. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

This paper describes the main results of the design, development and implementation of a technology platform to record, organize and distribute information on the knowledge production at the Technological Institute of Sonora (ITSON). With that in mind we formed an interdisciplinary team and hired an outside firm to develop a knowledge management system (KMS). The platform counts with modules for electronic administration of content, applications, management of the knowledge pieces and interaction with other institutional systems. Tools to generate, access, store and transfer knowledge in the University. As an added value for the school it was used to promote a culture of sharing intellectual resources and the creation of learning communities. The successful implementation of a technological tool depends on human factors, organizational processes and culture. We need technology as a means to manage the assets and keep the organization together. Knowledge management is not only the creation of a centralized data base but also it encompasses a variety of sources that contribute to the development of knowledge. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

This built-in progressive scan the classroom process has put on the table a number of problematizations about how and why you can use video games to teach. The purpose of this paper is to make a small mapping on the subject, where we board the notion of serious games and some educational experiences that have used these tools in educational contexts. Finally, we put some basic notions about the possibilities of teaching with video games and raising some reviews and thoughts on the way forward in the coming years. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The 1:1 initiatives have enabled nearly one million laptops have been distributed to children throughout Peru for educational purposes. However, despite the significance of investment, more than 900,000 personal computers that distributed the government from 2007 among primary school children, so far have not improved the quality of Peruvian education-- Main aim of the implementation of the program--. In this paper we provide evidence to an approach to the everyday educational activities in the field--With regard to the reasons why teachers do not use the Laptops--, well as a better understanding of what is happening in the classroom. The investigation begins by presenting a conceptual framework based on the review of theoretical work, along with a review of some international experiences including a description of the "one laptop per child". The data analysis included the categorization of the information collected through the "content analysis". The study concludes with a discussion of a number of elements that prevent teachers use laptops. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

DISTANCE education , *EDUCATION , *SCHOOL dropouts , *INFORMATION & communication technologies , *EDUCATIONAL technology , *HIGHER education - Abstract
Virtual education has taken hold within the Latin American educational system as a methodology that provides vocational training to people whom, for various reasons, cannot access classroom education. This paper aims to review the literature on the current state of virtual education in Colombia and the factors associated with dropout in Virtual Learning. As findings during the literature search, we encountered that during the period between 2000 and 2012 in Colombia 38,136 students were enrolled in this modality, demonstrating the immense acceptance of these programs and the impact thereof. However, despite the number of enrolled, dropout rates are high. According to the System for Dropout Prevention in Higher Education, in 2013 there were a total of 48,850 students who dropped out of distance education programs, which represents 38.2% attrition and therefore a retention index of 61.8%. These figures suggest the need for studies to determine the factors that lead students to make the decision to desert. In this regard, the Colombian context studies of this phenomenon are in very early stages and most have adopted theoretical models grounded in distance-traditional education. However, some factors that may be associated with dropout in this modality are related to technical aspects and socio-cultural characteristics of students. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

BLENDED learning , *EDUCATION , *THEORY of knowledge , *HIGHER education , *TEACHING methods , *EDUCATIONAL innovations - Abstract
Currently there is a significant amount of information that refers to the generation of knowledge about teaching and learning modalities supported by technologies. This paper gives an outline of the work between 2003 and 2013 that has been published in Latin America through scientific media type. The purpose of this study was to identify the countries of origin, the thematic areas addressed, the methodology and the main discoveries. It was found that there is a tendency to make publications lacking of descriptive empirical referent; there are few publications that refer to research on mixed research paradigms, quantitative or qualitative. Similarly it was found that the information collected mainly comes from some specific areas such as psychology, education, economics, and computer science, among others; and there are few works that are focused on the development of research scientific production; this scientific area is weak, but it is at the same time an area of opportunity to be developed. DIGITAL natives , *DIGITAL immigrants , *INFORMATION skills , *COMPUTER literacy , *ABILITY , *EDUCATION , *INFORMATION literacy - Abstract
In this paper we reflect about the differences among "digital natives" and "digital immigrants", giving data to identify if one group has much greater advantage among the other in The Digital Age, and related to teaching and learning processes. We also propose the acquisition and development of Information and technological competencies for both groups, as a strategy to bridge the Digital Divide on Education System. We try to solve the following questions: as teachers, are we prepared for teaching new and old subjects, through exploring innovative forms? As students, do we have traditional Information competencies to solve new problems, and to help us to make informed decisions on future scenery? [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
