In this paper, we propose an optimal random beamforming technique in mmWave MIMO-NOMA transmission systems. In our model, we consider a NOMA system with a user pairing scheme that works based on the distance between the cellular base station (BS) and the active mobile users. The aim of this is to reduce the system overall overhead for massive connectivity and achieve the desired Quality of Service (QoS). We present an optimization problem with the aims to find the optimal random beamforming coefficients by minimizing the outage probability. We analyze the convexity of the outage probability for three user pairing schemes and prove that the proposed optimal random beamforming is convex in high signal-to-noise ratio (SNR). We utilize the gradient-based algorithm namely the gradient descent algorithm to find optimal random beamforming coefficients. Orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (OFDM) and multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) are wireless radio technologies adopted by the new Fifth Generation (5G) of mobile communications. A very large number of antennas (massive MIMO) is used to perform the beam-forming of the transmitted signal, either to reduce the multi-user interference (MUI), when spatially multiplexing several users, or to compensate the path-loss when higher frequencies than microwave are used, such as the millimeter-waves (mm-Waves). Usually, a coherent demodulation scheme (CDS) is used in order to exploit MIMO-OFDM, where the channel estimation and the pre/post-equalization processes are complex and time consuming operations, which require a considerable pilot overhead and also increase the latency of the system. As an alternative, non-coherent techniques based on a differential modulation scheme have been proposed for the up-link (UL). However, it is not straightforward to extend these proposals to the down-link (DL) due to the (usually) reduced number of antennas at the receiver side. In this paper we overcome this problem, and assuming that each user equipment (UE) is only equipped with one single antenna, we propose the combination of beam-forming with a differential modulation scheme for the DL, enhanced by the frequency diversity. The new transmission and reception schemes are described, and the signal-to-interference-plus-noise ratio (SINR) and the complexity are analysed. In this paper, we study the problem of utility maximization in the uplink of vehicle-to-infrastructure communication systems. The studied scenarios consider four practical aspects of mobile radio communication links: i) Interference between adjacent channels, ii) interference between roadside units along the way, iii) fast and slow channel fadings, and iv) Doppler shift effects. We present first the system model for the IEEE 802.11p standard, which considers a communication network between vehicles and roadside infrastructure. Next, we formulate the problem of utility maximization in the network, and propose a distributed optimization scheme. This distributed scheme is based on a two-loop feedback configuration, where an outer-loop establishes the optimal signal to interference-noise ratio (SINR) that maximizes the utility function per vehicle and defines a quality-of-service objective. Meanwhile, inner-control loops adjust the transmission power to achieve this optimal SINR reference in each vehicle node regardless of interference, time-varying channel profiles and network latency. The computation complexity of the distributed utility maximization scheme is analyzed for each feedback loop. Simulation results indicate that the proposed scheme reaches the objective SINRs that maximize utility and improve energy efficiency in the network with a low time cost. The design of Very High Throughput Satellite (VHTS) systems will be an important milestone for future telecommunications systems in the light of the ongoing integration between satellite and 5G technologies as well as with the upcoming 6 G evolution. To this end, satellite systems will be operating at EHF frequency bands, hence requiring a special attention to the overall network design in terms of ground and space segment optimisation. In particular, the mitigation of feeder link outage events through advanced prediction techniques and the exploitation of smart gateway diversity concepts will be combined with an overarching network resources’ orchestration, jointly conceived to meet the QoS requirements of the end users. In this respect, this paper proposes a novel optimisation framework able to achieve very high throughput system figures, building on an adaptive QoS management concept. The proposed framework has been compared with other existing solutions from the literature and validated by means of extensive simulation campaigns, whose collected results show significant performance improvements. Millimeter wave (mmWave) has been widely considered as a promising technology in the next generation wireless communication systems. Various beam-based directional transmission techniques have been proposed to compensate high pathloss caused by mmWave properties. However, mobility effect of users potentially causes severe inter-beam interferences, which has not been fully-investigated in existing studies. In this paper, we have analyzed different types of mobility-aware beam interference models. Additionally, the theoretical SINR is derived based on channel statistics and the trajectories of users. We propose a mobility-aware subband and beam resource allocation (MSBA) scheme for the mmWave subband-beam massive multi-input multi-output (SB-MMIMO) systems. The proposed MSBA benefits from reduced computation complexity for maximizing system throughput constrained by quality-of-service (QoS) demands of users. The first phase of MSBA scheme is responsible for resource block assignment; while the second phase allocates beamwidth and beam directions according to the analytical derivations. Numerical results show that the proposed MSBA scheme can effectively achieve the highest system throughput and the lowest complexity compared to existing schemes in open literatures. In this paper, a new method is proposed for direction-of-arrival (DOA) estimation of coherent signals with improved sparse representation in unknown spatially correlated Gaussian noise. To be specific, leveraging a symmetric uniform linear array, the entries of the signal covariance matrix is firstly recasted to eliminate the spatially correlated noise. Subsequently, it is shown that an equivalent source vector can be obtained by squaring any row of the noise-free signal covariance matrix, irrespective of the coherency between the signals. Finally, an improved sparse representation, which enhances signal sparsity via utilizing a designed weight vector, is derived to determine the DOAs of the signals. Numerical examples are provided to demonstrate its superiority of DOA estimation performance in low signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) environments. This paper considers that a transmitter superposes secrecy transmissions to a closer receiver with a high security level in the active MIMO-OFDM channel it is using to send data to a farther receiver with a low security level, by using NOMA techniques. A joint optimization of power allocation and beamforming is important to maximize the secrecy rate to the closer receiver, while keeping the requested data rate of the farther receiver unaffected. The optimization problem is challenging because of coupled variables, and has yet to be addressed. We propose to decouple the problem between subcarrier power allocation and beamforming. Given beamforming, we prove the subcarrier power allocation for the two receivers can be equivalently transformed to two convex problems with waterfilling structures and closed-form solutions. Given power allocation, beamforming can be decoupled between subcarriers by distributing the rate requirement of the farther receiver across the subcarriers. The per-subcarrier beamforming is convexified by applying semidefinite relaxation and the Dinkelbach method. Simulations show the proposed approach can outperform its existing alternatives in terms of secrecy rate, and holistic designs of power allocation and beamforming are critical. Wireless channels generally exhibit dispersion in both time and frequency domain, known as doubly selective or doubly dispersive channels. To combat the delay spread effect, multicarrier modulation (MCM) such as orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (OFDM) and its universal filtered variant (UF-OFDM) can be employed, leading to a simple per-subcarrier one tap equalization. The time-varying nature of the channel, in particular, the intra-multicarrier-symbol channel variation induces spectral broadening and thus inter-carrier interference (ICI). Most existing works address both effects separately, focusing on the one effect while ignoring the respective other. This paper considers both effects simultaneously for cyclic prefix (CP)-, zero padded (ZP)- and universal filtered (UF)-based OFDM with a simple one tap equalization, assuming doubly dispersive wireless channel model. For this general channel model, we show that the independent (wide sense stationary uncorrelated scatter, WSSUS) selectivity in time and frequency domain starts to intertwine in contrast to the ideal cases with single selectivity. We derive signal-to-interference-plus-noise ratio (SINR) in closed form for arbitrary system settings and channel parameters, e.g., bandwidth, delay- and Doppler-spread. In this paper, to further improve the coverage and performance of unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) communication systems, we propose a reconfigurable intelligent surface (RIS)-assisted UAV scheme where an RIS installed on a building is used to reflect the signals transmitted from the ground source to an UAV, and the UAV is deployed as a relay to forward the decoded signals to the destination. To model the statistical distribution of the RIS-assisted ground-to-air (G2A) links, we develop a tight approximation for the probability density function (PDF) of the instantaneous signal-to-noise ratio (SNR). By using the obtained distribution, analytical expressions for the outage probability, average bit error rate (BER), and average capacity are derived. In this paper, we propose a novel routing technique for millimeter wave (mmWave) networks to improve the spectral efficiency. The performance of the proposed nth best relay routing technique is investigated using tools from stochastic geometry. First, we derive the probability density function (PDF) of the distance between the nth best relay and destination. Capitalizing on this result, we derive a closed-form expression of the coverage probability over the log-normal fading channels. Monte Carlo simulations show an accurate match with the analytical results. We further demonstrate that the coverage probability varies according to specific system parameters, such as density of relays, blockage density and the signal-to-noise ratio threshold. Furthermore, we show that the adaptive signal-to-noise ratio threshold plays an important role in improving the spectral efficiency for different relay density, blockage density and the order of best relay (n). Current cellular systems use pilot-aided statistical-channel state information (S-CSI) estimation and limited feedback schemes to aid in link adaptation and scheduling decisions. However, in the presence of pulsed radar signals, pilot-aided S-CSI is inaccurate since interference statistics on pilot and non-pilot resources can be different. Moreover, the channel will be bimodal as a result of the periodic interference. In this paper, we propose a max-min heuristic to estimate the post-equalizer SINR in the case of non-pilot pulsed radar interference, and characterize its distribution as a function of noise variance and interference power. We observe that the proposed heuristic incurs low computational complexity, and is robust beyond a certain SINR threshold for different modulation schemes, especially for QPSK. This enables us to develop a comprehensive semi-blind framework to estimate the wideband SINR metric that is commonly used for S-CSI quantization in 3GPP Long-Term Evolution (LTE) and New Radio (NR) networks. Finally, we propose dual CSI feedback for practical radar-cellular spectrum sharing, to enable accurate CSI acquisition in the bimodal channel. We demonstrate significant improvements in throughput, block error rate and retransmission-induced latency for LTE-Advanced Pro when compared to conventional pilot-aided S-CSI estimation and limited feedback schemes. Interference is one of the most critical issues in the device-to-device (D2D)-enabled heterogeneous cellular networks (HetCNets) due to the coexistence of D2D pairs and various types of cellular user equipments (UEs) that operate in the same spectrum. In this paper, an interference management scheme of joint mode selection and power control is proposed to solve the issue in D2D-enabled HetCNets. In the scheme, we present power control with interference limited area (PC-ILA) in which power control is utilized to adjust the ILA dynamically. Furthermore, according to different ILA, users can select different communication modes to solve the problem of spectrum resource waste caused by a single communication mode. Numerical simulation results are provided to demonstrate the feasibility of the proposed scheme and its superiority over other schemes. Channel gain based path selection has been recently proposed to simplify the network design of a cluster-based cross-layer multihop vehicular communications. In vehicular network systems, end-to-end packet delay increases with the growing number of vehicles associated in that path. In delay-sensitive application, the information exchange must be successfully carried out very quickly to ensure the quality of infotainment services. In the case of excessive packet delay, some important information either are needed to be enqueued before reaching the destination or are lost. The packet loss makes it impractical to deploy the network in practice. In this paper, a new delay-sensitive buffer-aided relay selection is proposed using the channel-based greedy scheduling algorithm (CGSA) to overcome the limitations imposed by processing delay. The proposed scheme significantly minimizes average delay by selecting a set of alternative paths based on individual node buffer status. This scheme has less packet delay than existing Max-link scheme with very close system performances, making it an ideal candidate for delay-sensitive applications. Secure transmission in full-duplex relay networks is considered in this paper. To ensure security, we propose a network coding assisted relaying scheme, where all the messages are encoded by the transmitter and the full-duplex relay respectively. Specifically, the encoding at the transmitter makes sure that all the coded messages are required to decode a private message. Consequently, security is achieved if the eavesdropper loses one or more coded messages. The encoding at the relay is operated by introducing a public auxiliary message, which changes the eavesdropper's decoding method from combining-before-decoding to combining-after-decoding, and thus decreases the eavesdropper's signal-noise-ratio (SNR) obviously. Intercept probability is used to measure the security, and results show that the proposed scheme can significantly improve the security performance of full-duplex relay networks. In this paper, we investigate the system outage performance of full-duplex (FD) two-way relay networks where all nodes are equipped with FD multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) capability and two sources exchange information via decode-and-forward (DF) relay protocol in two consecutive time slots. In order to completely separate the desired signal and interference, we consider a finite size of buffer at the relay. We propose zero-forcing based beamforming schemes for two different cases of the buffer-aided relay and non-buffer-aided relay. We derive exact closed-form expression and lower bound of the outage probability for those two-way relay system, respectively. Backscattering assisted wireless-powered communication combines ultralow-power backscatter transmitters with energy harvesting devices. This paper investigates the transmission mode selection problem of a hybrid relay that forwards data by switching between the active wireless-powered transmission and the passive ambient backscattering. It first presents a hybrid relay system model and derives its end-to-end success probability under theoretically optimal, but practically unrealistic, conditions. The transmission mode selection is then formulated as a stochastic two-armed bandit problem in a varying environment where the distributions of rewards are nonstationary. The proposed model selection scheme does not assume to have access to any channel states or network conditions, but merely relies on learning from past transmission records. Polar codes are known as the first capacity-achievable codes with low encoding and decoding complexity. The sequential decoding nature of traditional polar decoding algorithms such as successive cancellation (SC) results in high decoding latency, which is not suitable for services that require high reliability and low latency. Deep learning for decoding, referred to as neural network decoder (NND), has shown strong competitiveness because of its non-iterative and full-parallel feature. Whereas, the bit-error-rate (BER) performance of NND is still not satisfactory. In this paper, we first propose a residual learning denoiser (RLD) for polar codes. The RLD can remarkably improve the signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) and reduce the symbol-error-rate (SER) of received symbols. In order to decode polar codes more efficiently, we subsequently propose a residual neural network decoder (RNND) for polar codes. Different from the traditional pure-NND (PNND) which directly uses neural network for decoding received symbols, the proposed RNND concatenates a RLD used for denoising and a NND used for decoding. We provide a novel multi-task learning (MTL) strategy to jointly optimize the denoiser and decoder, and find that the denoising gain of Joint-RLD is more significant than the Independent-RLD. Numerical results show that the proposed RNND outperforms its counterpart PNND with regard to the BER performance. In addition, the optimal RNND(MLP-MLP) approaches the traditional SC decoding performance, while saving more than one hundred times of computation time. Zero-forcing precoding is a commonly-used multiple-user, multiple-input multiple-output beamforming technique. Applying such precoding, the signal-to-interference-plus-noise ratio (SINR) statistics with outdated channel state information, which involve various projections related to the multi-dimensional channel vectors and precoding vectors, have never been explicitly derived. In this paper, for the multiple-input single-output scenario with uniform power allocation, the distributions of these projections are derived, and then the SINR distribution and the conditional outage probability can be computed using those distributions. This paper proposes the integration of non-orthogonal multiple access (NOMA) and broadcasting with buffer-aided (BA) full-duplex (FD) relaying to improve the spectral efficiency of a single-source two-user network. Furthermore, opportunistic relay selection is employed, activating one or two FD relays to support the end-to-end communication. The network performance is improved through buffers, allowing to switch to half-duplex (HD) transmission/reception when FD operation is not feasible. A hybrid BA FD/HD NOMA relay selection algorithm is proposed, herein called $\mathop {\mathrm{BAHyNOMA}}$ , orchestrating the three aforementioned techniques, towards a simple yet efficient and robust relay selection. $\mathop {\mathrm{BAHyNOMA}}$ is evaluated in terms of outage probability, average sum-rate and average delay, and it is observed that the average sum-rate can be doubled, while maintaining low latency. In this paper, the effective rate (ER) of wireless communication systems and the performance of energy detection (ED) based spectrum sensing over $\alpha -\eta -\kappa -\mu$ fading channels are analysed. To this end, novel mathematically tractable exact expressions of the ER, the average detection probability (ADP) and the average area under the receiver characteristics curve (AUC) are derived. The asymptotic expressions at high average signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) values are also provided. A comparison between the numerical results and Monte Carlo simulations is presented to verify the validation of our analysis. The mathematical relationship between the ER and the performance metrics of the ED which is based on the time-bandwidth product, is explained. The provided results show that the increase in the time-bandwidth product from 1 to 4 reduces the ER, the ADP, and the average AUC by nearly $\text{21}\%$ , $\text{8}\%$ , and $\text{3}\%$ , respectively, for constant average SNR at 15 dB and delay exponent at 0.1. In this paper, the $\alpha$ - $\mathcal {F}$ composite fading distribution is introduced. It is worth highlighting that the $\alpha$ - $\mathcal {F}$ distribution offers more flexibility as it includes the composite $\mathcal {F}$ and the $\alpha$ - $\mu$ distributions, and their inclusive ones, as special cases. Moreover, unlike the composite $\mathcal {F}$ and the $\alpha$ - $\mu$ distributions, the $\alpha$ - $\mathcal {F}$ distribution jointly considers two important effects, namely the shadowing and the non-linearity of the propagation medium. Novel exact closed-form expressions for the probability density function (PDF), cumulative density function (CDF), moment-generating function, and higher order moments of the instantaneous signal-to-noise ratio are derived. The PDF and CDF are then employed to analyze the performance of a wireless communication system. To this end, we derive closed-form expressions for the outage probability, average channel capacity, and average bit error rate for binary coherent and non-coherent modulation schemes as well as for $M$ -ary modulation schemes. The analytical results are verified through numerical and Monte-Carlo simulations. The results demonstrate that the system performance improves as the non-linearity of the propagation medium and (or) the multipath parameter increase(s). Additionally, the system performance improves as the shadowing parameter increases. To demonstrate practical applications of the $\alpha$ - $\mathcal {F}$ distribution, we apply it to realistic channel measurements obtained for two different wireless emerging applications, namely underwater acoustic and device-to-device communications. The results demonstrate that the PDF of the $\alpha$ - $\mathcal {F}$ distribution provide a good fit to the measured data PDFs compared with other well-known distributions, namely $\mathcal {K}$ , $\kappa$ - $\mu$ shadowed, and $\alpha$ - $\mu$ distributions. In the heterogeneous networks (HetNets), the downlink-uplink decoupled (DUDE) user association is a very promising technology that can employ different association strategies for uplink and downlink. The DUDE mode has great potential for improving system capacity and frequency efficiency. However, interference between the DUDE user equipment (DUDE UE), macro user equipment (MUE) and small user equipment (SUE) still needs to be considered and properly tackled. Therefore, this paper presents an optimization scheme of frequency allocation and power control to improve the communication quality of users. Firstly, the multiple region frequency allocation (MRFA) scheme is proposed for non-uniform user distribution to alleviate interference among users and allocate spectrum resources equally to dense users. This scheme is modelled as a sub-region partition problem with maximum sum rate, which can disperse densely distributed users to different sub-bands for transmission. Secondly, the convergent power control (CPC) algorithm is considered to improve the transmission performance of each user. It can converge the transmit power to the optimal transmit power for reducing interference among co-channel users when there is no disturbance in the network. The CPC algorithm can also make the signal-to-interference-plus-noise-ratio (SINR) of each active user always greater than the target threshold until the end of communication by dynamically adjusting the transmit power of users. Simulation results show that the joint scheme of MRFA and CPC achieves a higher system throughput and better user performance than existing frequency allocation schemes or power control schemes. The unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) assisted transmission can significantly improve the spectrum efficiency and coverage of the wireless communication network. The paper proposed a cooperative secrecy transmission mechanism, which can take advantage of transmitter signal of primary user (PU) as a dedicated radio frequency (RF) source with decode and forward (DF) UAV selection and energy harvesting (EH) under cognitive network. Specifically, the transmitting signal of PU in the cognitive network can be viewed and used as energy to drive secondary user (SU) nodes and multi-relay nodes to send signals. It was worth noting that the DF UAV relay may bring about the unexpected noise and decrease the received signal to noise ratio (SNR), therefore, the multiple UAV assisted relays selected with secrecy capacity maximization criteria under cognitive network was proposed and investigated in detail, where the destination node equipped with multiple antennas and adopted the optimal antenna selection receiver. Moreover, By using the function analysis method, the closed expressions of the system secrecy outage probability (SOP) and the probability of non-zero secrecy capacity were calculated and derived accurately. Furthermore, the asymptotic expressions of the UAV assisted relay system under the large SNR cases were analyzed in detail, where the expressions of secrecy diversity order and secrecy diversity gain of the UAV assisted relay cognitive system were obtained thoroughly. This paper investigates pilot design and allocation in multi-cell massive multiple-input multiple-output systems with two-tier receiving. As the length of pilot is limited, the pilots cannot be orthogonal and cause interference. The sum rate as well as the signal-to-interference-plus-noise ratio (SINR) of the system are firstly analyzed. The sum rate upper bound and the asymptotic SINR are derived. The analysis shows that the pilot correlation and the spatial correlation jointly affect the sum rate. Based on this observation, the discrete Fourier transform vectors are employed in designing pilots with various correlation values. Then, with the channel correlation information and the designed pilots, the pilots are allocated to the cells in a greedy way with the object of maximizing the sum rate upper bound. Moreover, the sum rate analysis, the pilot design, and the pilot allocation are extended to the scenario with grouped correlations. In a wireless network, a well designed link scheduler ensures links are activated frequently and experience minimal or no interference, meaning these links will have a high capacity. A challenging problem, however, is random or uncertain channel gains. Another challenge is determining whether a set of links can co-exist together, meaning they do not cause excessive interference to one another. These challenges have a direct impact on the number of activated links as well as their data rates. To this end, this paper proposes a reinforcement learning approach that enables each node to learn the best link to activate and data rate to use over random channel conditions. In addition, it allows nodes to learn the opportune time to use full-duplex or half-duplex transmissions. Our simulation results show our link scheduler results in an average throughput that is triple that of Carrier Sense Multiple Access (CSMA), and up to quadruple the average throughput of Time Division Multiple Access (TDMA). Using a well-known wiretap model, for the first time in this paper, closed-form solutions are achieved for wireless secrecy under dual correlated Rician fading. A novel wireless secrecy and end-to-end (e2e) system analysis employing decode-and-forward (DF) opportunistic relays and an adaptive encoder with on/off transmission are reported. A signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) distribution of dual correlated Rician fading is first obtained as a function of four nested infinite summations, which (i) converges for a finite number of terms, and (ii) is employed to compute secrecy outage probability for a passive wiretapper. Using two-dimensional Laplace transform of the SNR distribution of dual correlated Rician fading, an e2e system analysis is then given by deriving compact expressions for e2e SNR distributions, and e2e ergodic capacity. Relationships between important parameters are elaborated and explained. An asymptotic analysis and proof for infinite summation convergence are also given. Satellite communication (SatCom) has attracted much attention due to its inherent characteristics. Security issues have gained severe concerns in SatCom since it is susceptible to be illegally eavesdropped by malicious ground stations within large-scale wireless coverage. In this paper, we investigate the physical layer security of a multiuser SatCom system in the presence of multiple eavesdroppers. Particularly, we propose a threshold-based scheduling scheme, where the geographically clustered eavesdroppers with both the colluded and collaborated eavesdropping scenarios are assumed. Specifically, closed-form expression for the secrecy outage probability (SOP) is derived for the passive eavesdropping scenario when the channel state information (CSI) of the eavesdroppers is unavailable. Moreover, we obtain a closed-form expression for the average secrecy capacity (ASC) of the considered system under the proposed user scheduling scheme. In order to get further insights of the proposed scheduling scheme at high signal-to-noise ratios (SNRs), the asymptotic analysis for the SOP and ASC is also demonstrated. Moreover, the reduced percentage with respect to number of user examination is also given, which validates the simplicity and efficiency of our proposed scheme compared to the traditional approaches. In this paper, distributed joint power and frequency allocation problem is studied. First, we present a distributed power update algorithm for the general wireless networks that eliminates the feasibility issue encountered in the well-known Foschini-Miljanic algorithm. Then, the proposed algorithm is extended by considering Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiple Access (OFDMA) femtocell networks in which each femto base station has more than one user. In addition, a frequency allocation scheme is developed in order to increase the maximum achievable signal-to-interference-plus-noise ratio (SINR). Subsequently, we present a joint frequency/power update algorithm by combining the proposed frequency allocation scheme with the power update algorithm. The continuously growing mobile traffic demand is pushing wireless networks to dense heterogeneous architectures with different types of base stations (BSs). In such dense heterogeneous networks (HetNets), especially in the high-rise building 3-D environment, the users need to determine which BS to be associated with before communication. Different user association schemes lead to different system performance. In this paper, a maximum instantaneous signal-to-interference-plus-noise ratio (MISINR) user association scheme is studied in the dense urban environment. A general 3-D model is utilized to model the dense urban HetNets deployed in the high-rise buildings. The coverage probability and average user rate are theoretically derived by using stochastic geometry in a general case and an interference-limited case, respectively. Numerical and simulation results demonstrate that the MISINR user association scheme has the best performance compared with other two association schemes in 3-D HetNets. In this paper, an $M\times 4$ double space-time line code (D-STLC) is designed for a system with $M$ -transmit and four-receive antennas whose channel state information is available at the transmitter. By delivering two independent STLC data streams simultaneously, both spatial diversity and multiplexing gains are obtained, like a $4\times M$ double space-time transmit diversity (DSTTD) system that transmits two space-time block coded data streams. It is analytically shown that the decoding signal-to-interference-plus-noise ratios of D-STLC and DSTTD are identical to each other, and furthermore, it is numerically verified that the proposed D-STLC significantly outperforms a conventional $M\times 4$ STLC scheme and other existing spatial-diversity and spatial-multiplexing schemes, such as precoded space-time block code and precoded spatial multiplexing, in terms of achievable rate and bit-error-rate performance as the signal-to-noise ratio and/or transmission data rate increase. In this paper, we propose a new beam allocation strategy aiming to maximize the average successful tracking probability (ASTP) of a single user time-varying millimeter-wave MIMO system. In contrast to most existing works that employ one transmitting-receiving (Tx-Rx) beam pair once only, we investigate a more general framework, where the Tx-Rx beam pairs are allowed to be used repeatedly in each beam training period to improve the received signal powers in specific directions. In the case of orthogonal Tx-Rx beam pairs, a power-based estimator is employed to track the time-varying AoA and AoD of the channel, and the resulting training beam pair sequence design problem is formulated as an integer nonlinear programming (I-NLP) problem. By dividing the feasible region into a set of subregions, the formulated I-NLP is decomposed into a series of concave sub I-NLPs, which can be solved by recursively invoking a nonlinear branch-and-bound algorithm. To reduce the computational cost, we relax the integer constraints of each sub I-NLP and obtain a low-complexity solution via solving the Karush-Kuhn-Tucker conditions of their relaxed problems. For the case when the Tx-Rx beam pairs are overlapped in the angular space, we estimate the updated AoA and AoD via an orthogonal matching pursuit (OMP) algorithm. Moreover, since no explicit expression for the ASTP exists for the OMP-based estimator, we derive a closed-form lower bound of the ASTP, based on which a favorable beam pair allocation strategy can be obtained. To guarantee that all mobile users in a cell can watch video with acceptable quality, conventional multicast IPTV services use the most robust modulation and coding scheme (MCS) for video transmission, resulting in worse spectral efficiency. To enhance the spectral efficiency, the adaptive multicast IPTV using the adaptive MCS based on signal-to-noise ratios (SNRs) or channel quality indicators (CQIs) was proposed in the literature. However, the CQI feedback messages induced by the adaptive multicast IPTV incur additional signaling overhead. Thus, a novel CQI feedback scheme was proposed in this paper to effectively decrease the amount of CQI feedback messages while preserving the system performance. Additionally, the CQI feedback rates of various CQI feedback schemes were theoretically analyzed based on the multi-dimensional Markovian model. Numerical results show that the proposed CQI feedback mechanism significantly reduces the CQI feedback rate without sacrificing the system performance and outperforms other existing CQI feedback schemes. Unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) technique has been recognized as a promising solution in future wireless connectivity from the sky, and UAV navigation is one of the most significant open research problems, which has attracted wide interest in the research community. However, the current UAV navigation schemes are unable to capture the UAV motion and select the best UAV-ground links in real-time, and these weaknesses overwhelm the UAV navigation performance. To tackle these fundamental limitations, in this paper, we merge the state-of-the-art deep reinforcement learning with the UAV navigation through massive multiple-input-multiple-output (MIMO) technique. To be specific, we carefully design a deep Q-network (DQN) for optimizing the UAV navigation by selecting the optimal policy, and then we propose a learning mechanism for processing the DQN. The DQN is trained so that the agent is capable of making decisions based on the received signal strengths for navigating the UAVs with the aid of the powerful Q-learning. In this paper, we analyze the coverage probability and average rate of millimeter-wave (mmWave) communication systems with directional cell discovery based on beam scanning. We first model the system and derive the coverage probability and average rate using stochastic geometry. We then show that the appropriate beamwidth can balance cell search delay and beamforming gains, improving average rate. Finally, we design the beamwidth that achieves a near-optimal average rate, which is approximately $\text{1.5}\%$ less than the maximum average rate, and verify it by simulation. This paper deals with the joint design of Multiple-Input Multiple-Output (MIMO) Space-Time Transmit Code (STTC) and Space-Time Receive Filter (STRF) to improve the detectability of a moving target embedded in signal-dependent clutter in the presence of uncertainties on the target azimuth angle and Doppler frequency. The Signal to Interference plus Noise Ratio (SINR) is considered as a figure of merit to maximize and multiple restrictions on STTC are forced at the design stage, i.e., similarity and modulus constraints as well as a uniform power requirement among the transmit antennas. To deal with the resulting non-convex design problem, a novel polynomial-time iterative procedure based on Successive Greedy Optimization (SGO) framework ensuring that SINR monotonically increases and converges to a finite value, is developed. Each iteration of the proposed algorithm involves the generalized eigenvalue decomposition to design STRF and a nested iterative technique involving Dinkelbach's procedure and an Alternating Direction Penalty Method (ADPM) to obtain STTC. The combination between non-orthogonal multiple access (NOMA) and hybrid automatic repeat request (HARQ) is capable of realizing ultra-reliability, high throughput and many concurrent connections particularly for emerging communication systems. This paper focuses on characterizing the asymptotic scaling law of the outage probability of HARQ-aided NOMA systems with respect to the transmit power, i.e., diversity order. The analysis of diversity order is carried out for three basic types of HARQ-aided downlink NOMA systems, including Type I HARQ, HARQ with chase combining (HARQ-CC) and HARQ with incremental redundancy (HARQ-IR). The diversity orders of three HARQ-aided downlink NOMA systems are derived in closed-form, where an integration domain partition trick is developed to obtain the bounds of the outage probability specially for HARQ-CC and HARQ-IR-aided NOMA systems. The analytical results show that the diversity order is a decreasing step function of transmission rate, and full time diversity can only be achieved under a sufficiently low transmission rate. It is also revealed that HARQ-IR-aided NOMA systems have the largest diversity order, followed by HARQ-CC-aided and then Type I HARQ-aided NOMA systems. Additionally, the users’ diversity orders follow a descending order according to their respective average channel gains. In this paper, we propose a two-way cooperative relay scheme based on non-orthogonal multiple access (NOMA) where bidirectional communication is supported for two users in three phases. We jointly optimize power and time allocations to minimize system outage probability whose exact closed-form expression is derived and verified by Monte Carlo simulations. For performance comparison, four schemes based on power allocation and time allocation as well as the conventional one-way cooperative NOMA (OW-CNOMA) scheme are provided. In this paper, a power allocation space-time coding scheme based on the self-coding property of residual loop interference (RLI) for two-way full-duplex (FD) amplify-and-forward (AF) relaying networks is proposed. The relay and direct link cooperate to forward the received signals to destination node, forming the self-coded distributed space-time code, in which the relay performs self-coding using the RLI after implementing some self-interference cancellation techniques. Then, an iterative power allocation algorithm is presented. With the proposed power allocation algorithm, both amplifying factor and transmit powers of terminal nodes are jointly optimized to maximize the smaller signal-to-interference-plus-noise ratio (SINR) of terminal nodes under a total power constraint when estimated instantaneous channel state information is available. We theoretically demonstrate the benefits of the proposed power allocation algorithm compared to equal power allocation. Simulation results show that the proposed scheme achieves significant improvement in performance compared with existing schemes for FD relaying systems and half-duplex relaying systems. In this paper, we investigate the joint signal to interference plus noise ratio (SINR) thresholds optimization and resource allocation to maximize the sum-rate of Device-to-Device (D2D) communications while still retaining the rate requirements for active cellular users (CUs), when the inactive CUs are used as opportunistic relays under three operational modes: without using network-coding (NNC), using traditional high-layer network-coding (HNC), and using physical-layer network-coding (PNC). Under Rayleigh fading, we show that, given the selections of relays, this sum-rate maximization in no-relay scheme, NNC, HNC, and PNC opportunistic relay schemes can be formulated as a mixed integer non-linear programming (MINLP), which is NP-hard in general. To find the solution to the MINLP, we propose a two-step approach to solve the problem: 1) for each possible pairing of a D2D pair and a CU, we derive the optimal SINR thresholds to obtain the maximum transmission rate of the D2D pair while satisfying the rate requirement of the CU; 2) based on the maximum transmission rates of D2D pairs for each possible pairing in the first step, we develop a bipartite-matching method to find the optimal pairing CUs for D2D pairs. Finally, according to the solution to the MINLP, we propose an iterative relay selection algorithm to find out the relays that can further improve the sum-rate of D2D communications. Extensive simulation results demonstrate that, compared with the scenario without relaying, the NNC, HNC, and PNC opportunistic relay schemes achieve a maximum performance enhancement of 106%, 138%, and 168%, respectively. In this paper, we analyse a secure transmission scheme using rateless codes (RC) in a delay constrained system. By using RC, secrecy is achieved if the legitimate receiver can accumulate required number of packets before an eavesdropper does. To achieve this, we employ transmit antenna selection (TAS) at the base station to improve the main channel and, artificial noise (AN) is generated by the use of a cooperative jammer to degrade the eavesdropper's channel. Quality of violation probability (QVP) which consists of both the delay violation probability and the intercept probability is used as a performance metric. A closed-form expression for QVP is derived. We show that using TAS for reducing QVP is effective only at lower signal to noise ratio (SNR). We also observe that on increasing number of antennas at the source ($N_{A}$) while using TAS along with AN, QVP decreases for delay sensitive services, whereas, in case of delay tolerant applications, increasing $N_{A}$ is effective at low SNR. Traditional beamforming (BF) methods can be used to suppress the Gaussian interferers in underwater acoustic communication systems. However, multiple unsteady sub-Gaussian interferers may exist that degrade the performance of BF. In this paper, a new beamformer is proposed for the suppression of multiple unsteady sub-Gaussian interferers (SMUSGI). The proposed BF combines the multiplier and the quasi-Newton methods to obtain the optimal weight vector. Simulation experiments are conducted to validate the performance of the proposed beamformer. In addition, the proposed beamformer is compared with the traditional methods including the MVDR, Subspace, Bartlett, MDDR, LCMD and LCMV beamformers. The obtained results demonstrate that the proposed beamformer can effectively suppress multiple unsteady sub-Gaussian interferers with a higher output signal-to-interference-plus-noise ratio (SINR), and faster convergence compared with the traditional methods. This paper addresses the spectrum sensing problem in an orthogonal frequency-division multiplexing (OFDM) system based on machine learning. To adapt to signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) variations, we first formulate the sensing problem into a novel SNR-related multi-class classification problem. Then, we train a naive Bayes classifier (NBC), and propose a class-reduction assisted prediction method to reduce spectrum sensing time. We derive the performance bounds by translating the Bayes error rate into spectrum sensing error rate. Compared with the conventional methods, the proposed method is shown by simulation to achieve higher spectrum sensing accuracy, in particular at critical areas of low SNRs. In this paper, to perform an energy-efficient and high-throughput time-switching (TS)-based energy-harvesting (EH) relaying in a practical block-by-block manner, an adaptive discrete TS-based EH relaying scheme is proposed. Specifically, focusing on both dual-hop amplify-and-forward (AF) and decode-and-forward (DF) systems, we make full use of the channel state information (CSI) at the relay to determine an adaptive relaying power as well as an adaptive TS factor based on the relay's current accumulated energy. For such, an effective analytical framework is proposed to characterize the throughput performance of the proposed scheme, which shows the superiority of the proposed scheme over the conventional one. In particular, the limiting throughput efficiency of the proposed scheme is shown to achieve the limiting/best throughput efficiency of 50% for half-duplex relaying regardless of channel fading types, while the limiting throughput efficiency of the conventional scheme is always less than 50%. Furthermore, simulation results are given to validate our theoretical analysis, showing that for AF mode, the proposed scheme can provide up to 7.4 dB threshold signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) gain over the conventional solution. Visible light communication (VLC) and non-orthogonal multiple access (NOMA) are deemed two promising technologies in the next generation wireless communication systems in achieving high capacity and massive connectivity. In this paper we study the performance of a NOMA-enabled VLC system using different modulation schemes. In particular system level bit error rate (BER) is derived for different modulation schemes. Conventional methods used for analyzing the BER under orthogonal multiple access cannot be directly applied to NOMA. In order to obtain the closed-form BER expressions for the NOMA-enabled VLC systems, an analytical framework based on bitwise-decision axis and signal space is proposed.Moreover, the analysis method can be extended to the any wireless communication networks with NOMA. Simulation results demonstrate the accuracy of the theoretical analysis. The study shows that the BER gap among users decreases with the increase of the modulation order but at the cost of a higher power consumption in order to achieve a better signal to noise ratio. In heterogeneous networks (HetNets), user association approaches should be able to achieve load balancing among base stations (BSs). This paper investigates the joint optimization of user association and resource allocation in Backhaul-constrained HetNets for capacity enhancements. We consider two major limitations in HetNets: the backhaul bottleneck of BSs and the capability of user equipment (UE). We establish a framework based on a multi-leader multi-follower Stackelberg game, in which resource allocation is formulated as a follower-level game and user association is cast as a leader-level game. Because of the backhaul bottleneck of small BSs, the given preference order of users renders the final association result unstable. Thus, the resident-oriented Gale-Shapley (GS) algorithm is included in the proposed framework to obtain a stable single-BS association. Furthermore, congestion factors are introduced to reflect the relative backhaul congestion degrees of BSs, which enables load balancing among the small BSs in the proposed algorithm. The study considers user association and resource allocation with and without limitations on the number of serving users for small BSs in HetNets. In backscatter communication (BackCom) systems, the system performance is susceptible to the double fading channels. In this paper, we investigate the capacity performance of BackCom systems via multiple tags, where the tag corresponding to the maximum signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) is selected to combat the double fading. Although the exact ergodic capacity does not admit a closed-form expression, we derive its approximation by exploiting the extreme value theory, which shows that the capacity scales as $\log \log N$ with $N$ denoting the number of tags. The self-healing function in self-organizing networks can not only detect the presence of fault conditions but also diagnose the root causes in a fully autonomous fashion. In this paper, we propose a machine learning based diagnosis algorithm that uses network condition indicators such as key performance indicators and performance management counters for network condition diagnosis. The proposed algorithm judiciously combines the classical supervised softmax neural network (SNN) and support vector machine (SVM), and therefore can be efficiently implemented by off-the-shelf tools while achieving promising diagnosis performance. In particular, the proposed algorithm combines the features extracted from SNN and SVM, and is able to robustly diagnose fault conditions with different levels of severity. Besides, the proposed algorithm can also handle complex scenarios where there is more than one fault condition present at the same time. Considering that data with labels of multiple faults are not available in general, we further propose a simple retraining procedure which allows the proposed algorithm to perform multi-fault diagnosis even when the training data are only single labeled. Simulation results demonstrate that the proposed algorithms provide desired diagnosis performance in both single-fault and multi-fault scenarios and outperform the traditional scoring based methods. The rapid increase of wireless applications and services coupled with the arrival of 5G and Internet of Things will not only exacerbate demand for further capacity at the downlink (DL) but also crucially at the uplink (UL). One of the most potential enablers to simultaneously optimize both links is the DL/UL decoupling (DUDe) technique which does so by exploiting the possibility of associating each user to a different base station (BS) in each link direction. Moreover, the increasing desire to incorporate millimeter-wave (mmWave) communications in future networks further enriches the possibilities to achieve higher capacities. To this end and in contrast to existing works which use dual association based on minimum path-loss (Min-PL), this paper investigates the merits of adopting capacity-based multi-association in ultra-high frequency (UHF) and mmWave hybrid networks, where mobile users may simultaneously connect to multiple UHF small cells (SCells), millimeter-wave SCells and/or UHF macro cells (MCells). It will be shown that, our joint association and resource management approach can provide higher data rates and energy efficiency than many benchmark techniques. Maximal ratio combiner output distributions of multivariate equal-correlated Nakagami- $m$ fading in their single-integral form are derived in this paper. The new distributions provide better alternatives to those obtained under selection combing (SC) diversity. Cross verification is mathematically performed to validate the proposed findings, which exactly reduce to existing results under SC deployment when the diversity order is neutralized. To show the effectiveness of the new findings, ergodic channel capacity is derived. Monte Carlo simulation is shown to match theoretical predictions. With the increasing penetration of smart devices, device-to-device (D2D) communications offer a promising paradigm to accommodate the ever-growing mobile video traffic and unremitting demands for fast content distribution. The redundant storage and communication capacities of smart devices can be exploited for collaborative content caching and distribution. Such united resources at the network edge can serve end users with low delivery cost and high performance. In this paper, we analyze a heuristic distance-based scheme, which appropriately pairs a device requesting a content item with a cache device within a collaboration distance and providing the requested content. An analytical framework is developed to derive the optimal collaboration distance so as to maximize the likelihood that the paired cache devices successfully fulfill the content requests. The simulation results validate the analytical framework and the effectiveness of the heuristic distance-based scheme for D2D-assisted content distribution.
