Purpose: The main aim of this study is to study the effect of alkyl dimethyl benzyl ammonium chloride on removing stains, yellowness and harmful metal ions on historical printed paper, as well as the effect of this cleaner on optical and chemical properties of treated paper. Design/methodology/approach: The assessments after and before treatment were carried out using digital microscopy, infrared spectroscopy (FTIR), pH measurement, color change and finally scanning electron microscopy. Findings: The results showed that the concentrations used under study (1% and 3%) cleaned the paper efficiently without any observed effect on the chemical composition of cellulose, which was confirmed by IR spectra. The most stains that completely disappeared were the soil spots, also the pH values had improved significantly after treatment, which confirms that the detergent is effective in neutralizing the acidity of cellulose. Moreover, the color change revealed an increase in the chromatic lightness of the paper after treatment, which agreed with the results of the scanning electron microscopy examination, as the paper appeared free of dirt, and the fibers and bundles became more cohesive. Originality/value: To the best of the authors' knowledge, this study is a unique study, as there is no previous literature that has indicated the use of the effect of alkyl dimethyl benzyl ammonium chloride washing treatments for printed historical paper, as it was limited only to making disinfection materials and water purification products. In protecting cultural heritage, deacidification is used to stabilize acidic papers, ensuring the neutralization of acids present in the paper. But in the process of aging, several mechanisms of degradation occur simultaneously. Therefore, substances used to stabilize the paper should contain an antioxidant component in addition to the deacidifying component. The effect of the antioxidant (hindered amine light stabilizers—HALS type) on the stabilization of lignin-containing acid papers during accelerated aging was studied in this work. The effective deacidification component was magnesium; the solvent was hexamethyldisiloxane (HMDSO). The 4-amino-2,2,6,6-tetramethylpiperidine series of hindered amine light stabilizers (HALS) was selected as appropriate for creating a modifying system based on HMDSO. The modification system was tested on samples of a model test acid lignin-containing paper (NOVO) and naturally aged acidic paper from the real book. The addition of substances to the proposed deacidification system has a favorable effect on stabilizing the pH during aging and provides the inhibition of the oxidative degradation products and stabilization of the cellulose degree of polymerization. It was confirmed that the application of the system containing deacidification and an antioxidant component may increase the effectiveness of the protection of acid groundwood paper heritage objects. This work reports the development of low-cost and rapid multiplexed colorimetric assay of antioxidants (total phenolics, antioxidant capacity, flavonoids and anthocyanins) in wines at daisy-shaped fluidic paper-based analytical devices (PADs). The desired fluidic patterns were formed on paper by pen drawing and colorimetric reagents were immobilized at the 6 peripheral test zones. The sample was added at the central sample zone, migrated to the test zones and reacted with the immobilized reagents producing characteristic colors that were captured and analyzed. The paper-based approach was applied to the analysis of several wine samples and the results were statistically correlated to standard solution-based colorimetric assays, indicating that it could be reliably used for ranking wines according to their antioxidants content. Microfluidic paper-based analytical devices (µPADs) represent one of the promising green analytical strategies for low-cost and simple determination of various analytes. The actual task is the development of such devices for quantitation of antioxidants, e.g., flavonoids. In this paper, possibilities of a novel three-reagent µPAD including silver nitrate, 4-nitrophenyldiazonium tetrafluoroborate, and iron(III) chloride as reagents are assessed with respect to the determination of dihydroquercetin. It is shown that all the three reagents produce different colorimetric responses that can be detected by a mini-spectrophotometer–monitor calibrator or by a smartphone. The method is applicable to direct measuring high contents of dihydroquercetin (the linearity range is 0.026–1 mg mL−1, and the limit of detection is 7.7 µg mL−1), which is favorable for many dietary supplements. The analysis of a food supplement was possible with the relative standard deviations of 9–26%, which is satisfactory for quantitative and semiquantitative determinations. It was found that plotting a calibration graph in 3D space of the three reagents' responses allows us to distinguish dihydroquercetin from its close structural analogue, quercetin. This paper presents an experimental study on the physicochemical properties of rice oil, peanut oil, corn oil and Kraft paper immersed in these oils in the presence of antioxidants (butylated hydroxytoluene, tertiary butyl hydroquinone and Naugalube¯ 750). The experiments are performed on new and aged conditions. Ageing of oils is carried at 115 °C for 96 hours while Kraft paper is aged in oils at 130 °C for 164 hours. Both closed and open cup methods are used for ageing. The results show that ageing insignificantly affects the breakdown voltage, but markedly increases the acid number and the viscosity of the vegetable oils. The combination of tertiary butyl hydroquinone and either butylated hydroxytoluene or Naugalube¯ 750 slightly increases the breakdown voltage, but significantly raises the oxidation stability of the vegetable oils. This results in a reduction in the viscosity and the acid number of the vegetable oils. Moisture significantly affects the breakdown voltage of both vegetable and mineral oil. High moisture content results in low breakdown voltage. The results also show that ageing insignificantly affects the breakdown voltage, but markedly decreases the tensile strength of oil-impregnated paper. Although the presence of antioxidants does not increase the breakdown voltage of aged paper, these additives slow down the ageing process. The focus of this research is the stabilisation of paper with Verdigris, a green copper pigment. Due to its corrosive effects on paper, many important documents, paintings and maps are in danger. The efficiency of several commercially available deacidification agents on paper samples with Verdigris was tested, including magnesium-based Bookkeeper® dispersion, nano calcium hydroxide containing Nanorestore® and CaLoSiL® dispersions as well as a recently developed dispersion of nano calcium carbonate. The antioxidant tetrabutylammonium bromide was tested either alone or in combination with nano calcium based deacidification agents. The effect of the treatments was evaluated using colour, tensile strength, degree of polymerization and pH measurements. The results indicate that acidic degradation does not play a major role during accelerated degradation of paper containing Verdigris with moderately acidic pH value and that oxidative decay could be the main culprit of the decay. The method described, which involves the use of antioxidant tetrabutylammonium bromide in combination with calcium carbonate based deacidification dispersion, was proved to have a superior effect against degradation of paper with Verdigris in comparison to the treatments which involve deacidification agents only. The paper mulberry (Broussonetia papyrifera) leaf is rich in alkaloids and flavonoids, which has high medicinal and feeding value. We aimed to analyze the effects of B. papyrifera leaf extract on growth performance, antioxidant capacity, immune functions, and fecal microflora of weaned piglets. Thirty healthy, 28-day-old piglets were randomly assigned to three groups and fed with a basal diet supplemented with 0, 150, and 300 g/t B. papyrifera leaf extract for 42 days (control group, group I, and group II) separately. The result revealed that the final weight of piglets in group II was higher than the other groups, and the diarrhea rate in this group was 62.9% lower than in the control group. The feed conversion ratio in group I was significantly lower than the other two groups. Higher blood urine nitrogen concentration was noted in group II, higher glutathione peroxidase and catalase in group II, higher superoxide dismutase in the control group, and higher immune globulins (Ig) IgG, IgA, and IgM in group II. There was no significant difference in community richness and community diversity among the three groups of fecal samples. The relative level of Roseburia was higher in groups I and II, while Lactobacillus was higher in the control group. In conclusion, supplementation with B. papyrifera leaf extract at a certain dosage can increase growth performance and antioxidant capacity of weaned piglets, reduce the occurrence of diarrhea, enhance immune functions and disease resistance, and affect the composition of fecal microflora. Abstract We report the first use of a paper-based device as a simple, low-cost and rapid detection platform for simultaneous determination of antioxidant activity and total phenolic content in food samples. Two antioxidant activity assays including 2,2′-azino-bis(3-ethylbenzthiazoline-6-sulphonate) radical cation (ABTS) assay and cupric reducing antioxidant capacity (CUPRAC) assay and one total phenolic content assay, Folin Ciocaltue reagent (FC) assay were simultaneously employed as a proof-of-concept. The device composed of a central sample zone connected to four pretreatment zones and consecutive detection zones to accommodate all three assays and a sample blank measurement. The analysis was achieved by dropping the samples onto the sample zone to flow to the pretreatment and detection zones containing the stored reagents for each antioxidant assay making the color change that was measured using imageJ software. Assay optimization including key reagent concentrations, reaction time, and surface modification were carried out to obtain sensitive and wide linear rage analyses. Various antioxidant standards were then evaluated to determine the analytical features of the method. The paper-based assays were successfully applied to detect antioxidant activity and total phenolic content in 10 beverage samples with similar gallic acid equivalent (GAE) values to those obtained from traditional assays at a 95% confidence interval. Moreover, the GAE values of the samples obtained from three assay analyses were well correlated to each other with relatively high Pearson's correlation coefficients. These results indicated that the assays gave accurate results and are suitable for simultaneous analysis of antioxidant activity and total phenolic content in real samples. A cost-effective assay for antioxidant using simple cotton thread combining paper based device with mobile phone detection has been investigated. Standard and sample solutions flow along a bunch of cotton thread treated with sodium hydroxide via microfluidic behaviors without external pumping. The analyte solution reacts with the reagents that have been immobilized on the paper strip fixed at the end of the cotton bunch. The developed platforms were used for the assays of total phenolic content and antioxidant capacity by employing Folin-Ciocalteu and 2, 2-diphenyl-1-picryhydrazyl (DPPH) respectively. Simple detection can be made by employing a mobile phone camera (iPhone 4S) with Image J or Photoshop for image processing and evaluation. Gallic acid was used as a reference standard in this work, as its polyphenol structures can be found in many plants. The total phenolic content is expressed as gallic acid equivalents (GAE) (mg/g material). Inhibition capacity is calculated by the equation: % I = [(I o – I s )/ I o ] × 100, where I s is the relative magenta intensity (CMYK mode) of sample, and I o the relative magenta intensity of DPPH•. IC 50 inhibition can be estimated from the graph and can be used for the antioxidant capacity consideration. Applications to the assay green tea samples were demonstrated. The total phenolic contents in the green tea samples were found to be 48–105 mg/g, with %RSD of less than 10 for that of higher 50 GAE mg/g and IC 50 values of the samples studied were 25–50 mg/L. Copper ions and acids lead to enhanced degradation of the paper carrier. Stabilization treatment of documents with pigments such as verdigris and malachite should therefore include addition of alkalis to combat acid hydrolysis of cellulose and antioxidants to retard oxidative degradation catalysed by copper ions. The paper reviews present approaches for stabilisation of green copper pigments. Furthermore, two recently proposed treatments containing tetraalkylammonium bromide antioxidants and alkali are evaluated. The first treatment is based on interleaving of paper samples containing malachite or verdigris pigments with papers, impregnated with alkaline buffer and antioxidant at elevated relative humidity and applied pressure. The second one is based on the use of non-aqueous suspensions of nano calcium carbonate and/or magnesium oxide particles and tetrabutylammonium or tetrapropylammonium bromide. Size exclusion chromatography is used to monitor the extent of degradation of samples during accelerated ageing, while colour changes of pigments are determined using colourimetry. Results demonstrate that effective stabilization of paper samples can be achieved with tetrabutylammonium bromide and calcium carbonate containing interleaves at 90% RH. When non-aqueous immersion treatment is applied, tetrabutylammonium bromide at a concentration 0.09 M in combination with calcium carbonate nano particles had the most beneficial effect on the paper as well as on the colour of the copper based pigments. Abstract A simple and sensitive device is presented based on the use of pencil-drawn paper based electrochemical detector placed at the end of a cotton thread fluidic channel in wall-jet configuration. This innovative and fast responding electroanalytical system can be adopted for both single and dual electrode electrochemical detection, this last achieved by applying two different potentials at two independent working electrodes drawn on the opposite faces of the paper based detector. Its performance was preliminarily optimized by adopting hexacyanoferrate(II) as probe species undergoing reversible electrochemical processes. These devices were then used for the single electrode detection of ascorbic acid in aqueous samples and the dual electrode detection of orthodiphenols in extra virgin olive oils (EVOOs). In fact, these devices enable hydrophilic orthodiphenols, typically present in EVOOs (extracted by a 80:20% v/v acetonitrile/water mixture), to be discriminated from hydrophilic monophenols instead present in almost all vegetable oils. Flow-injections runs were conducted by using a 0.01 M H 2 SO 4 + 0.5 KCl running electrolyte allowing the rapid and selective detection of hydrophilic orthodiphenols with satisfactory sensitivity and a low enough detection limit (2 μM). Different real samples of EVOOs and sunflower oils were analyzed. Abundant enough contents of orthidiphenols were found in EVOO samples, while no trace of these antioxidants was found in sunflower oils. The current study aimed to identify and analyze the 100 most cited papers on the topic of nutraceuticals and functional foods. Scopus database was searched to extract bibliometric data. Two-thirds of the 100 most cited papers were reviews. Papers were mostly published in food science and nutrition journals, and one-third were published in seven journals, namely: British Journal of Nutrition (6), Critical Reviews in Food Science and Nutrition (6), Journal of Food Science (5), Trends in Food Science and Technology (5) , American Journal of Clinical Nutrition (4) , Food Chemistry (4) and Journal of Nutrition (4). Topics with high citation counts dealt with prebiotics, probiotics, antioxidants and phenolic content. Hot topics with over 1000 citations per paper include bifidobacterium (1147), colon (1032) and lipid metabolism (1013). The United States and Europe were major places of origin. The use of whole-body cryotherapy (WBC) for musculoskeletal ailments is growing. WBC, involving brief exposure to extremely low temperatures, is increasingly used for its analgesic, anti-inflammatory, and antioxidant effects. The paper examines the physiological impacts of WBC on cardiovascular, musculoskeletal, hematologic, hormonal, and metabolic systems. Specific orthopaedic applications discussed include its role in the management of fractures, osteoarthritis, osteonecrosis of the femoral head, osteomyelitis, adhesive capsulitis, tendinopathies, rheumatic pathologies, chronic pain syndromes, and fibromyalgia. The study also highlights the benefits and drawbacks of WBC, including its potential to improve athletic performance, recovery, mood, and well-being, while noting risks like frostbite and impaired muscle strength. Clinical evidence from various studies is evaluated, revealing a spectrum of outcomes. Paper-based analytical devices are an emerging class of lightweight and simple-to-use analytical platform. However, challenges such as instrumental requirements and chemical reagents durability, represent a barrier for less-developed countries andmarkets. Herein, we report an advanced laminated device using red emitting copper nanocluster and RGB digital analysis for signal improvement. Upon RGB system assistance, the device signal-to-background ratio and the calibration sensitivity are highly enhanced under a filter-free setup. In addition, the calibration sensitivity, limit of detection, and coefficient of determination are on par with those determined by instrumental fluorescence analysis. Moreover, the limitation of using oxidation-susceptible fluorescent nanomaterials is overcome by the introduction of protecting tape barriers, antioxidative sheets, and lamination enclosing. Natural oils derived from linseed, rapeseed, soybean, and a special breed of sunflower were tested for the production of maleated fatty oils for paper sizing in the ene-reaction with maleic anhydride. All these maleated oils were subjected to a conventional sizing test proving their ability to hydrophobize handsheets. Natural oils having only monounsaturated fatty acid residues (oleic acid) in the triglycerides worked best by having lower product viscosity and higher yields. The optimized production procedure employs antioxidant addition, an increased maleic anhydride:triglyceride ratio of 4:1, as well as increased pressure to reduce undesired polymeric byproducts and to increase yield. Degradation of cellulose in historic manuscripts with iron gall ink leads our heritage to deterioration. Direct aqueous or non-aqueous methods of treatment, which are often used in practice, can damage the authenticity of documents. Therefore, other methods without any wet curative procedures during treatment are in great request. The aim of this work was to evaluate the efficiency of interleaving treatments performed with interleaves containing organic (tetrabuthylammonium bromide and 1-ethyl-3-methylimidazolium bromide) and inorganic (KI and KBr) halide salts on the stability of paper with iron gall ink during ageing. The effect of interleaving was compared with 1) the efficiency of direct treatment of samples and 2) the established conservation procedure-calcium phytate/calcium hydrocarbonate treatment. To evaluate the stabilization effect of different compounds and the efficiency of particular conservation technique measurements of the polymerization degree (viscosimetry, size exclusion chromatography-SEC) and pH were performed before and after accelerated ageing. Colour change in paper samples was determined by reflection measurement using an integrating sphere with a halogen light source. The condition of paper fibers was studied using optical microscopy and scanning electron microscopy (SEM). The tentative results demonstrate that the effective stabilization of paper containing iron gall ink during ageing may successfully be achieved by interleaving using alkaline paper impregnated with KBr. As a nutrient rich emulsion extracted from plant materials, plant-based milk (PBM) has been the latest trend and hot topic in the food industry due to the growing awareness of consumers toward plant-based products in managing the environmental (carbon footprint and land utility), ethical (animal well-fare) and societal (health-conscious) issues. There have been extensive studies and reviews done to discuss the distinct perspective of PBM including its production, health effects and market acceptance. However, not much has been emphasized on the valuable antioxidants present in PBM which is one of the attributes making them stand apart from dairy milk. The amounts of antioxidants in PBM are important. They offered tremendous health benefits in maintaining optimum health and reducing the risk of various health disorders. Therefore, enhancing the extraction of antioxidants and preserving their activity during production and storage is important. However, there is a lack of a comprehensive review of how these antioxidants changes in response to different processing steps involved in PBM production. Presumably, antioxidants in PBM could be potentially lost due to thermal degradation, oxidation or leaching into processing water. Hence, this paper aims to fill the gaps by addressing an extensive review of how different production steps (germination, roasting, soaking, blanching, grinding and filtration, and microbial inactivation) affect the antioxidant content in PBM. In addition, the effect of different microbial inactivation treatments (thermal or non-thermal processing) on the alteration of antioxidant in PBM was also highlighted. Products used and produced in industrial locations must have natural ingredients and minimal energy usage due to air and environmental pollution. It is impossible for standard filters to clean bacterias in homes, workplaces and areas working with biological creatures. Therefore, the production of multifunctional nanocomposite and hybrid filter papers is necessary. In the study, filter papers coated with nanocomposite solutions prepared from green synthesized nanosilver (AgNPs) with plant extracts and Polyvinyl Alcohol (PVA). Scanning Electron Microscope (SEM) analyses showed that silver nanoparticles and PVA homogeneously coated the filter paper fibers, thereby reducing the average pore diameters by only 3% compared to commercial standards of filter paper. A filter with 36% higher burst pressure resistance was produced by nanosilver, plant extracts and PVA modification. The antibacterial effect is provided to the filters with a high effect of up to 10000 times, by coating them with nanosilver and plant extracts. This study made it possible to produce filter paper with natural ingredients and at low cost, reducing energy and raw material consumption, with high antibacterial effect and mechanical strength. A simple, sensitive and fast responding device is described for the discrimination of hydrophilic ortho-diphenols, whose presence in abundant enough amounts is typical for extra virgin olive oils (EVOOs), from hydrophilic mono-phenols instead present in almost all vegetable oils. It consists of a dual electrode detector pencil-drawn at the end of a paper microfluidic channel, defined by hydrophobic barriers, where samples of these antioxidants, extracted from vegetable oils by a 80:20% v/v acetonitrile/water mixture, were applied. Thin-layer chromatographic runs conducted by using a 0.01 M H 2 SO 4 + 1 M KCl running buffer allowed the selective detection of hydrophilic ortho-diphenols by profiting from the fact that they undergo reversible oxidation at less positive potentials than those required by monophenols for displaying their irreversible anodic process. On this basis, a potential for the oxidation of hydrophilic ortho-diphenols was applied to the upstream pencil-drawn electrode (W 1 ) (at which a minor fraction of mono-phenols was also oxidized), while a potential for the reverse process involving the sole product (ortho-quinones) of the reversible oxidation of ortho-diphenols was imposed at the downstream pencil-drawn working electrode (W 2 ). Thus, cathodic peak currents linearly dependent on analyte concentrations could be recorded at W 2 which led to a satisfactory detection limit (8 μM, equivalent to 1.23 mg/L) even when working electrodes W 1 and W 2 with same dimensions were employed. Improved sensitivities and lower detection limits were achieved by increasing the dimensions of W 2 with respect to W 1 , thanks to the improvement of the collection efficiency. Throughout this investigation, hydroxytyrosol (HTy) and tyrosol (Ty) were adopted as models of ortho-diphenols and mono-phenols, respectively, in view of their abundant presence in EVOOs. Real samples of EVOO from different production companies, of a simple olive oil and of a sunflower oil were analyzed. Different hydrophilic ortho-diphenol contents were found in EVOO samples (up to 40.8 mg/kg), while only a negligible amount turned out to be present in simple olive oil. No trace of these antioxidants were instead found in sunflower oil, as expected. The development of chemiluminescence (CL) sensing strategy with multiple-parameters for discrimination of small molecules remains a great challenge. Herein, a multicolor CL sensing strategy for the discrimination of five antioxidants, including dopamine, catechin, cysteine, glutathione, and thioctic acid was presented. Firstly, multilayer paper chips modified with luminol-Co(II), luminol-fluorescein-Co(II), and luminol-rhodamine B-Co(II) that can produce strong blue, green and purple colored light emission, respectively, via CL and CL resonance energy transfer (CRET) reactions were fabricated. The presence of antioxidants exhibits different inhibition or enhancement effect on the CL reactions, creating unique multicolor CL response pattern to each antioxidant. The red (R), green (G), and blue (B) channel split from the purple, green and blue CL image, respectively, generate cross-reactive sensing parameters for the discrimination of the five antioxidants. The distinct R, G, and B values of the CL images to each antioxidant are created as analytical fingerprints to identify five antioxidants by using principal component analysis and hierarchical cluster analysis. Satisfied results were obtained for discrimination antioxidant mixtures and spiked antioxidants in serum samples. Identification of 10 unknown samples resulted in 100% accuracy. With the increasing interest in the health benefits arising from the consumption of dietary products rich in antioxidants, there exists a clear demand for easy-to-use and cost-effective tests that can be used for the identification of the antioxidant power of food products. Paper-based analytical devices constitute a remarkable platform for such expedient and low-cost assays with minimal external resources but efforts in this direction are still scarce. In this work we introduce a new paper-based device in the form of a sensor patch that enables the determination of antioxidant activity through analyte-driven on-paper formation of gold nanoparticles. The principle of detection capitalizes, for the first time, on the on-paper nucleation of gold ions to its respective nanoparticles, upon reduction by antioxidant compounds present in an aqueous sample. The ensuing chromatic transitions, induced on the paper surface, are used as an optical “signature” of the antioxidant strength of the solution. The response of the paper-based sensor was evaluated against a large variety of antioxidant species and the respective dose response curves were constructed. On the basis of these data, the contribution of each species according to its chemical structure was elucidated. For the analysis of real samples, a concentration-dependent colorimetric response was established against Gallic acid equivalents over a linear range of 10 μM–1.0 mM, with detection limits at the low and ultra-low μM levels (i.e. <1.0 μM) and satisfactory precision (RSD = 3.6–12.6%). The sensor has been tested for the assessment of antioxidant activity in real samples (teas and wines) and the results correlated well with commonly used antioxidant detection methods. Importantly, the sensor performed favorably for long periods of time when stored at moisture-free and low temperature conditions without losing its activity thus posing as an attractive alternative to the assessment of antioxidant activity without specialized equipment. The use of the sensor by non-experts for a rapid assessment of natural products in field testing is envisioned. Importantly, we demonstrate for the first time that analyte-mediated growth of nanomaterials directly on the paper surface could open new opportunities in paper-based analytical devices. The (Ni/NiO)CG/g-C3N4 nanocomposite was green synthesized using Cleome gynandra via sol–gel method. The photocatalytic dye decomposition, antioxidant and antidiabetic activities of the nanocomposite were studied and compared with those of (Ni/NiO)CG and g-C3N4. The nanocomposite exhibited enhanced photocatalytic efficiency of 97% compared to (Ni/NiO)CG (63%) and g-C3N4 (80%) due to the synergistic effect between both the composite partners. The nanocomposite, (Ni/NiO)CG/g-C3N4 showed notable antioxidant activity in DPPH (IC50 of 41.76 ± 0.88μg/mL with 87.06% of inhibition at 500μg/mL) and ABTS (IC50 of 47.60 ± 0.81μg/mL with 88.40 % of inhibition at 500μg/mL) radical scavenging assays. The green synthesized nanocomposite also exhibited significant antidiabetic activity in α-amylase and α-glucosidase enzyme inhibition assays with the IC50 of 33.83 ± 0.53μg/mL and 49.94 ± 0.64μg/mL, respectively. The XRD and SEM analyses confirmed the nanocomposite formation of (Ni/NiO)CG/g-C3N4. The results showed that the green synthesized (Ni/NiO)CG/g-C3N4 has desirable dye degradation, antidiabetic and antioxidant properties. Graphene, a remarkable material known for its exceptional properties, can be efficiently produced through environmentally friendly methods using renewable resources and eco‐friendly solvents. Recent studies have highlighted the potential of leaf extracts as effective reducing and stabilizing agents in converting graphene oxide (GO) to graphene. This paper presents a green and cost‐effective approach for the effective deposition of silver nanoparticles (Ag NPs) onto the reduced graphene oxide (RGO) nanosheets. The process involves the co‐reduction of GO and AgNO3 in water using Moringa olifera leaf extract, resulting in the formation of a nanocomposite termed reduced graphene oxide‐silver (Ag‐RGO). The formation of RGO and Ag NP is confirmed through UV‐visible spectroscopy, XRD, and Raman spectroscopy techniques. TEM images revealed the morphology of the nanocomposite, depicting 2‐dimensional graphene sheets adorned with Ag NPs. FT‐IR analysis confirmed the removal of oxygenated functional groups from GO, indicating graphene formation. The synthesized Ag‐RGO nanocomposite exhibited significant catalytic, antioxidant, and electrochemical properties. Abstract: Current study presents the effect of irrigation with different compositions (0%, 20%, 40%, 60%, 80% and 100%) of PBM effluent on growth and antioxidant potential of Brassica rapa var. rapa L. plants. Seeds were exposed to different PBM effluent compositions, which resulted in significant decrease in their germination potential with elevated delay index. Significant changes in growth parameters (plant height, number of leaves and leaf area) were recorded for turnip plants at regular intervals (25, 50 and 75d) as function of PBM effluent proportion. Response of biochemical and antioxidant constituents in different parts of turnip, against stress induced by PBM effluent, was assessed by estimating the contents of chlorophyll (a+b), carotenoids, protein, phenolics, flavonoids, ascorbic acid and malondialdehyde. Antioxidant activity was evaluated by measuring DPPH radical scavenging potential. The results of this study suggest that the impact of PBM effluent irrigation is dependent on concentration of effluent in irrigation mixture and is very clear on plant growth and antioxidant attributes. The article presents a study conducted to examine whether interleaving paper impregnated with a combination of the antioxidant sodium bromide and calcium carbonate would be able to reduce the degradation of iron-gall ink containing papers. Four types of interleaving papers were studied, pure paper, paper with calcium carbonate and paper with calcium carbonate and sodium bromide. Interleaving papers were prepared by immersing Whatman filter paper No. 1 once, for 5 minutes in a saturated aqueous solution of calcium hydroxide or twice with intermediate drying. A third set was left untreated.

We report a simple, low-cost, one-step fabrication method for microfluidic paper-based analytical devices (μPAD) using only polystyrene and a patterned screen. The polystyrene solution applied through the screen penetrates through the paper, forming a three-dimensional hydrophobic barrier, defining a hydrophilic analysis zone. The optimal polystyrene concentration and paper types were first investigated. Adjusting polystyrene concentration allows for various types of paper to be used for successful device fabrication. Using an optimized polystyrene concentration with Whatman#4 filter paper, a linear relationship was found to exist between the design width and the printed width. The smallest hydrophilic channel and hydrophobic barrier that can be obtained are 670 ± 50 μm and 380 ± 40 μm, respectively. High device-to-device fabrication reproducibility was achieved yielding a relative standard deviation (%RSD) in the range of 1.12–2.54% (n = 64) of the measured diameter of the well-shaped fabricated test zones with a designed diameter of 5 and 7 mm. To demonstrate the significance of the fabricated μPAD, distance-based and well-based paper devices were constructed for the analysis of H2O2 and antioxidant activity, respectively. The analysis of H2O2 in real samples using distance-based measurement with CeO2 nanoparticles as the colorimetric agent produced the same results at 95% confidence level, as those obtained using KMnO4 titration. A proof-of-concept antioxidant activity determination based on the 2,2-diphenyl-1-picrylhydrazyl (DPPH) assay was also demonstrated. We describe a laboratory experiment that employs the Nanoceria Reducing Antioxidant Capacity (or NanoCerac) Assay to introduce students to portable nanoparticle-based paper sensors for rapid analysis and field detection of polyphenol antioxidants. The experiment gives students a hands-on opportunity to utilize nanoparticle chemistry to develop their own devices to test antioxidant-containing solutions, such as tea and other beverages, for polyphenolic content, a characteristic likely correlated with health benefits. The method utilizes sensing nanoparticles of cerium oxide that respond visually to antioxidant compounds. Due to ease of use of these sensors, inexpensive materials, and short time requirement (~1 h), this lab is appropriate for primary, secondary, and undergraduate courses. The lab and lesson expose students to the fields of nanotechnology, analytical chemistry, antioxidant chemistry, and antioxidant characteristics of botanicals and food constituents. The antioxidant and antimicrobial properties of Zataria multiflora and Iranian and European Cumin were evaluated, first as pure extracts and later as active agents incorporated in paper, manufactured at laboratory scale as an active packaging material. Two different procedures were used for quantifying the antioxidant properties and microbiological studies versus Staphylococcus aureus , Listeria innocua, Pseudomonas sp., Salmonella enterica subsp. enterica and Escherichia coli were carried out. All bacteria were inhibited when exposed to the atmosphere generated from 4% to 6% (w/w) of Zataria essential oil in the active coating. Zataria showed the best antioxidant properties. Ferulic acid is an important phenolic antioxidant found in or added to diet supplements, beverages, and cosmetic creams. Two designs of paper-based platforms for the fast, simple and inexpensive evaluation of ferulic acid contents in food and pharmaceutical cosmetics were evaluated. The first, a paper-based electrochemical device, was developed for ferulic acid detection in uncomplicated matrix samples and was created by the photolithographic method. The second, a paper-based colorimetric device was preceded by thin layer chromatography (TLC) for the separation and detection of ferulic acid in complex samples using a silica plate stationary phase and an 85:15:1 (v/v/v) chloroform: methanol: formic acid mobile phase. After separation, ferulic acid containing section of the TLC plate was attached onto the patterned paper containing the colorimetric reagent and eluted with ethanol. The resulting color change was photographed and quantitatively converted to intensity. Under the optimal conditions, the limit of detection of ferulic acid was found to be 1 ppm and 7 ppm (S/N = 3) for first and second designs, respectively, with good agreement with the standard HPLC-UV detection method. Iron gall ink is one of the oldest inks used in many countries. Acid hydrolysis and oxidation are two important factors in the corrosion of iron gall ink, which cause the degradation of cellulose. Antioxidants can control the oxidation process by scavenging the radicals. In this study, three synthetic antioxidants (butylated hydroxyl anisole (BHA), butylated hydroxyl toluene (BHT), and tert‑butyl hydroquinone (TBHQ)) used in the food industry were selected to control the oxidation of iron ink in cellulose papers. The effectiveness of these antioxidants in reducing paper degradation was studies individually and in combination with each other. The long-term effect of these antioxidants on paper samples was evaluated after accelerated aging by heat and moisture, and the changes occurring during aging were studied by measuring the tensile strength, pH, color, and oxidation rate of the paper samples. To control the acid hydrolysis together with oxidation process, inked paper samples were deacidified before coating them with antioxidants. The results show the positive effect of these antioxidants on the control of iron gall ink corrosion. Among these antioxidants, BHA alone and in combination with other antioxidants (BHA+BHT+TBHQ) and (BHA+TBHQ) showed better performance in preserving paper samples and BHT shows the lowest effect on control the degradation processes in paper. Airborne particulate matter (PM) pollution significantly impacts human health, but the cellular mechanisms of PM-induced toxicity remain poorly understood. A leading hypothesis on the effects of inhaled PM involves the generation of cellular oxidative stress. To investigate PM-induced oxidative stress, analytical methods have been developed to study the chemical oxidation of dithiothreitol (DTT) in the presence of PM. Although DTT readily reacts with several forms of reactive oxygen species, this molecule is not endogenously produced in biological systems. Glutathione (GSH), on the other hand, is an endogenous antioxidant that is produced throughout the body and is directly involved in combating oxidative stress in the lungs and other tissues. We report here a new method for measuring aerosol oxidative activity that uses silver nanoparticle (AgNP) aggregation coupled to glutathione (GSH) oxidation in a paper-based analytical device. In this assay, the residual reduced GSH from the oxidation of reduced GSH to its disulfide induces the aggregation of AgNPs on a paper-based analytical device, which produces a reddish-brown product. Two methods for aerosol oxidative reactivity are presented: one based on change in color intensity using a traditional paper-based techniques and one based on the length of the color product formed using a distance-based device. These methods were validated against traditional spectroscopic assays for DTT and GSH that employ Elman's reagent. No significant difference was found between the levels measured by all three GSH methods (our two paper-based devices and the traditional method) at the 95% confidence level. The colorimetric determination of the concentration of polyphenols, flavonoids, and anthocyanins in wine samples, using a mobile phone camera for sample spot capture on a paper microzone and a remote computer with dedicated software for quantification, is presented as an illustrative application of green analytical chemistry. A comparison of the results with conventional spectrophotometry demonstrates that both methods yield similar results. Developing the assay took approximately 2 months, and the use of chemicals, compared with spectrophotometry, was reduced by about two orders of magnitude: the paper assay consumed 0.4 mL of reagent for 100 samples, whereas the spectrophotometric assay required 100 mL. The relative testing times for 100 samples were 7 h by spectrophotometry and 2 h for paper-a savings on the order of 3.5. No analytical instrumentation was used for the colorimetry on paper microzones. Instead, the assay took advantage of the existing communication technology and free software. In this work, a low-cost, disposable, and portable lab-on-paper device is proposed to simultaneously quantify total polyphenol content (TPC) and antioxidant capacity (AOC) in 15 min; the assay requires no pre-treatment of the samples. The lab-on-paper device fabrication has been carried out employing a xurography-based benchtop microfabrication technology using low-cost materials as chromatography paper and polymeric sheets. Extra virgin olive oil (EVOO) phenolic compounds' represents a nutritional added value, nevertheless, the high lipidic content hinders their direct and rapid analysis, resulting in an extremely challenging sample. The realized lab-on-paper allows to perform the dual TPC and AOC determination in three simple steps: (i) sample loading, (ii) analytes transport to the analysis spot, and (iii) double colorimetric analysis exploiting the growth of AuNPs and AgNPs on paper mediated by phenolic compounds. Signal acquisition is achieved using a standard digital camera. The dual colorimetric assay is able to detect phenolic compounds in the 25–500 mg L−1 range with limits of detection ≤6 mg L−1 and good reproducibility (RSDs ≤11%). Abstract: The objective of this study was to enhance the nutritional quality and antioxidant activity of rice paper by adding ground whole flaxseed to develop omega-3 rice paper (ORP). The amounts of omega-3 and dietary fibre in the ORP were 2.7 g/100 g and 9.1 g/100 g respectively, both of which were absent in the traditional rice paper (TRP). The antioxidant activity of the ORP evaluated by the oxygen radical absorbance capacity (ORAC) (231.7 μmol TE/g) was significantly higher than that of TRP (50.2 μmol TE/g). This correlated well with the results of the DPPH radical scavenging activity. In addition, the total phenolic content of the ORP was much higher than the total phenolic content of the TRP. Sensory analysis indicated that ORP was preferred in all of the tested attributes, particularly in taste and texture. The results suggest that the development of ORP by the addition of flaxseed improved both the nutritional value and the sensory characteristics of rice paper. [Copyright &y& Elsevier]

Neurological disorders (NDs) are diseases that seriously affect the health of individuals worldwide, potentially leading to a significant reduction in the quality of life for patients and their families. Herbal medicines have been widely used in the treatment of NDs due to their multi-target and multi-pathway features. Ginkgo biloba leaves (GBLs), one of the most popular herbal medicines in the world, have been demonstrated to present therapeutic effects on NDs. However, the pharmacological mechanisms of GBLs in the treatment of neurological disorders have not been systematically summarized. This study aimed to summarize the molecular mechanism of GBLs in treating NDs from the cell models, animal models, and clinical trials of studies. Four databases, i.e., PubMed, Google Scholar, CNKI, and Web of Science were searched using the following keywords: "Ginkgo biloba", "Ginkgo biloba extract", "Ginkgo biloba leaves", "Ginkgo biloba leaves extract", "Neurological disorders", "Neurological diseases", and "Neurodegenerative diseases". All items meeting the inclusion criteria on the treatment of NDs with GBLs were extracted and summarized. Additionally, PRISMA 2020 was performed to independently evaluate the screening methods. Out of 1385 records in the database, 52 were screened in relation to the function of GBLs in the treatment of NDs; of these 52 records, 39 were preclinical trials and 13 were clinical studies. Analysis of pharmacological studies revealed that GBLs can improve memory, cognition, behavior, and psychopathology of NDs and that the most frequently associated GBLs are depression, followed by Alzheimer's disease, stroke, Huntington's disease, and Parkinson's disease. Additionally, the clinical studies of depression, AD, and stroke are the most common, and most of the remaining ND data are available from in vitro or in vivo animal studies. Moreover, the possible mechanisms of GBLs in treating NDs are mainly through free radical scavenging, anti-oxidant activity, anti-inflammatory response, mitochondrial protection, neurotransmitter regulation, and antagonism of PAF. This is the first paper to systematically and comprehensively investigate the pharmacological effects and neuroprotective mechanisms of GBLs in the treatment of NDs thus far. All findings contribute to a better understanding of the efficacy and complexity of GBLs in treating NDs, which is of great significance for the further clinical application of this herbal medicine. Melatonin, primarily synthesized in the pineal gland, plays a crucial role in regulating circadian rhythms and possesses significant antioxidative properties. By neutralizing free radicals and reducing oxidative stress, melatonin emerges as a promising agent for the prevention and therapy of many different disorders, including cancer. This paper reviews the relationship between the thyroid gland and melatonin, presenting experimental evidence on the protective effects of this indoleamine against oxidative damage to macromolecules in thyroid tissue caused by documented carcinogens (as classified by the International Agency for Research on Cancer, IARC) or caused by potential carcinogens. Furthermore, the possible influence on cancer therapy in humans and the overall well-being of cancer patients are discussed. Astragali radix is a traditional medicinal herb with a long history and wide application. It is frequently used in prescriptions with other medicinal materials to replenish Qi. According to the classics of traditional Chinese medicine, Astragali radix is attributed with properties such as Qi replenishing and surface solidifying, sore healing and muscle generating, and inducing diuresis to reduce edema. Modern pharmacological studies have demonstrated that some extracts and active ingredients in Astragali radix function as antioxidants. The polysaccharides, saponins, and flavonoids in Astragali radix offer beneficial effects in preventing and controlling diseases caused by oxidative stress. However, there is still a lack of comprehensive research on the effective components and molecular mechanisms through which Astragali radix exerts antioxidant activity. In this paper, we review the active components with antioxidant effects in Astragali radix; summarize the content, bioavailability, and antioxidant mechanisms; and offer a reference for the clinical application of Astragalus and the future development of novel antioxidants. Vitamin B can be a potential solution for reproductive issues, but it might also be beneficial in reducing the effects of inappropriate nutrition. Vitamin C plays a vital role in reducing the effects of heat stress or exposure to toxins in pigs. Vitamin D proves to be beneficial in addressing stress induced mostly by infections and weaning, while vitamin E has been shown to mitigate the effects of toxins, heat stress, or transport stress. This review highlights the potential benefits of these dietary antioxidants in maintaining pig health, enhancing productivity, and counteracting the adverse effects of various stressors. Recent progress in the application of nanotechnology to create antioxidant packaging materials is reviewed in this paper. The utilization of nanoparticles, nanofibers, nanocrystals, and nanoemulsions to incorporate antioxidants into these packaging materials is highlighted. The application of nano-enabled antioxidant packaging materials to preserve meat, seafood, fruit, vegetable, and other foods is then discussed. Finally, future directions and challenges in the development of this kind of active packaging material are highlighted to stimulate new areas of future research. Nanotechnology has already been used to create antioxidant packaging materials that inhibit oxidative deterioration reactions in foods, thereby prolonging their shelf life and reducing food waste. Pulmonary and respiratory well-being is an important area of clinical studies, especially given the growing prevalence of breathing illnesses such as Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD), asthma, and Acute Respiratory Distress Syndrome (ARDS). Antioxidants and nutraceuticals have garnered significant attention for their therapeutic roles in managing these conditions. This paper evaluates the current evidence of the efficacy of various antioxidants and nutraceuticals, including vitamins C and E, N-acetylcysteine, omega-3 fatty acids, and polyphenols, in improving respiratory health. Antioxidants help reduce oxidative stress, a primary factor in the pathogenesis of many respiratory diseases. Nutraceuticals provide a diet-based approach to support pulmonary function and reduce inflammation. Clinical studies have shown that these compounds can enhance lung function, decrease inflammation, and improve the overall quality of life in patients with respiratory issues. However, results are mixed, and larger-scale randomized controlled trials are needed to confirm their benefits. Additionally, the bioavailability and optimal dosing of these compounds remain areas of ongoing research. Despite these challenges, incorporating antioxidants and nutraceuticals into general respiratory care shows promise as a complementary approach to pharmacotherapy. Amadori compounds (ACs) are stable compounds produced in the early stage of the Maillard reaction (MR) with health benefits such as immunomodulatory, antithrombosis, and tumor‐preventive effects. Jujube is a medicinal and edible fruit in China. It is rich in free amino acids and reducing sugar, but traditionally, little attention was paid to the formation of ACs when jujube was processed, neither the influence of ACs on health effects. In this paper, we aimed to increase ACs through controlling the MR during different heating processes of jujube powder with adjusted water content and find the most effective AC that contributed to the antioxidant effects of jujube powder. The optimal dry‐heating conditions to produce ACs were as follows: The water activity was 0.294, the heating temperature was 90°C, and the time was 120 min. After processing, the ACs content of jujube powder was 18.55 ± 0.19 mg/g dry weight (DW), which was more than 100 times of those in the unheated jujube powder (0.153 ± 0.003 mg/g DW). Besides, the antioxidant activity of jujube powder after dry‐heating process was higher than that of unheated one. As the most abundant AC in the dry‐heated jujube powder (12.90 ± 0.75 mg/g DW), N‐(1‐deoxy‐d‐fructose‐1‐yl) proline (Fru‐Pro) showed the highest antioxidant activity (62% of equivalent l‐ascorbic acid) among 12 ACs in ferric reducing antioxidant power assay. This result provided a method to produce jujube product with high content of ACs and confirmed the positive contribution of Fru‐Pro to the antioxidant activity of the jujube powder. Natural products are treasure houses for modern drug discovery. Diphyllin is a natural arylnaphthalene lignan lactone isolated from the leaf of Astilboides tabularis. Studies have found that it possesses plenty of bioactivity characteristics. In this paper, we reviewed the structure, bioactivity, and mechanism of action of diphyllin and its derivatives. The references were obtained from PubMed, Web of Science, and Science Direct databases up to August 2023. Papers without a bio-evaluation were excluded. Diphyllin and its derivatives have demonstrated V-ATPase inhibition, anti-tumor, anti-virus, anti-biofilm, anti-inflammatory, and anti-oxidant activities. The most studied activities of diphyllin and its derivatives are V-ATPase inhibition, anti-tumor activities, and anti-virus activities. Furthermore, V-ATPase inhibition activity is the mechanism of many bioactivities, including anti-tumor, anti-virus, and anti-inflammatory activities. We also found that the galactosylated modification of diphyllin is a common phenomenon in plants, and therefore, galactosylated modification is applied by researchers in the laboratory to obtain more excellent diphyllin derivatives. Objective: The aim of this study was to compare the effects of medium light roast (MLR) and medium roast (MR) paper-filtered coffee on cardiovascular risk factors in healthy volunteers. Methods: This randomized crossover trial compared the effects of consuming three or four cups (150 mL) of MLR or MR coffee per day for 4 wk in 20 healthy volunteers. Plasma lipids, lipoprotein( a) (Lp[a]), total homocysteine, and endothelial dysfunction-related inflammation biomarkers, serum glycemic biomarkers, and blood pressure were measured at baseline and after each intervention. Results: Both roasts increased plasma total cholesterol, low-density lipoprotein-cholesterol, and soluble vascular cell adhesion molecule-1 (sVCAM-1) concentrations (10%, 12%, and 18% for MLR; 12%, 14%, and 14% for MR, respectively) (P < 0.05). MR also increased high-density lipoporteincholesterol concentration by 7% (P = 0.003). Plasma fibrinogen concentration increased 8% after MR intake (P = 0.01), and soluble E-selectin increased 12% after MLR intake (P = 0.02). No changes were observed for Lp(a), total homocysteine, glycemic biomarkers, and blood pressure. Conclusion: Moderate paper-filtered coffee consumption may have an undesirable effect on plasma cholesterol and inflammation biomarkers in healthy individuals regardless of its antioxidant content. Abstract: Oxidative processes lead to enhanced degradation of cellulose in alkaline environment, especially in the presence of transition metals, such as iron and copper. Considerable parts of collections of manuscripts, drawings, maps and archival materials throughout the world are seriously damaged as the result of the use of iron gall inks and copper based pigments. The research on cellulose degradation and stabilization in the presence of transition metals is therefore crucial for the development of paper stabilization methods. The aim of this study was to evaluate the possibility of slowing down oxidative degradation of papers containing transition metals by their contact with paper folders containing antioxidant. The paper discusses the degradation rate constants of paper samples with elevated amounts of copper and iron ions and their mixtures during accelerated thermal ageing in contact with papers containing none or various amounts of quaternary ammonium salt. Their efficiency in respect to concentration of the antioxidants is presented. The research demonstrates that effective stabilization of paper samples with higher amounts of iron and copper ions in mildly alkaline environment by interleaving with papers, impregnated with antioxidant tetrabutylammonium bromide can be achieved under given conditions. Herein, a novel paper-based chemiluminescence (CL) assay is reported using a smartphone readout for on-site and reliable analytical applications. The CL system was based on the high-performance improving effect of cobalt-imidazole metal-organic framework (CoMOF) on luminol-hydrogen peroxide (H 2 O 2) CL emission. The CoMOF was grown on paper and used as a support for the CL reaction, which led to an intense CL emission and good reproducibility. More importantly, the stability of luminol, as the CL reagent, was greatly improved in the presence of CoMOF. This high stability, along with the high-yield CL emission, makes the device highly suitable for commercialization. Furthermore, using a smartphone as the detector for the developed device made the process easier and more accessible for public usage. In this work, the new paper-based CL smartphone device was used for the detection of the total phenolic content of food samples. Phenolic compounds (PC) are hydroxyl radical scavengers that can effectively quench the CL emission of the luminol–H 2 O 2 –CoMOF system. After optimizing the reaction conditions, the system could detect PC at the μg mL−1 level. Detection limits of 0.12, 0.28, 0.46, 0.85, and 1.23 μg mL−1 were obtained for gallic acid, quercetin, catechin, kaempferol, and caffeic acid, respectively. This work is the first report on the practical application of smartphone CL assays for the estimation of PC. The proposed assay is an easy-to-use, low-cost, portable, and suitable assay for on-site screening purposes. Pinus radiata barks obtained from tress of different ages, as subproduct of pulp and paper (trees less than 10 years) and sawmill (trees between 20 to 25 years) industries, were used to produce extracts containing phenolic compounds. A factorial design 23 was used to evaluate the influence of the variables temperature (25 - 35 °C), solvent type (acetone - ethanol) and extraction time (1-12 h). The extracts were compared in their extraction yield (%), total phenols (by FolinCiocalteau), and radical scavenging activity (by DPPH). The extract obtained from old trunks presented a higher extraction yield than from young trees. The highest yield value was 2.56%, which was obtained using acetone as solvent for 12 h and 35°C. The highest concentration of phenol (5.84±0.18 g CE g extract-1), and scavenging activity (IP=86.1±4.4%) were also obtained for this type of extract. The extraction duration was the variable that most influenced the parameters studied. The bark's radical scavenging power was greater than BHT (40%) and slightly lower than ascorbic acid (92%), common commercial antioxidants. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Abstract: Coffee is among the most frequently consumed beverages worldwide and epidemiological studies indicate that its consumption is inversely related to the incidence of diseases in which reactive oxygen species (ROS) are involved (liver cirrhosis, certain forms of cancer and neurodegenerative disorders). It has been postulated that antioxidant properties of coffee may account for this phenomenon. To find out if consumption of paper filtered coffee which is the most widely consumed form in Central Europe and the US protects humans against oxidative DNA-damage, a controlled intervention trial with a cross-over design was conducted in which the participants (n =38) consumed 800ml coffee or water daily over 5 days. DNA-damage was measured in peripheral lymphocytes in single cell gel electrophoresis assays. The extent of DNA-migration attributable to formation of oxidised purines (formamidopyrimidine glycosylase sensitive sites) was decreased after coffee intake by 12.3% (p =0.006). Biochemical parameters of the redox status (malondialdehyde, 3-nitrotyrosine and the total antioxidant levels in plasma, glutathione concentrations in blood, intracellular ROS levels and the activities of superoxide dismutase and glutathione peroxidase in lymphocytes) were not markedly altered at the end of the trial, also the urinary 8-isoprostaglandine F2α concentrations were not affected. Overall, the results indicate that coffee consumption prevents endogenous formation of oxidative DNA-damage in human, this observation may be causally related to beneficial health effects of coffee seen in earlier studies. In agricultural sectors, banana peel can be used as fertilizer to enhance the soil's physical properties, crop quality, and yield due to potassium. Even fiber-rich banana peels can be used to treat constipation problems. Banana peel carries anti-inflammatory properties that can be used in daily life as a first-aid at home to control, reduce, and cure inflammation and infections. Banana is commonly available in our homes, and thus it can be known as a zero-budget organic cosmetic product.
