- Abstract
There is a gap of empirical studies about the economic incentives and funding models of disinformation industries and initiatives in Brazil. The objective of this paper is to offer an analysis of programmatic advertisements that are displayed in stories from the far-right website Terra Brasil Notícias. To do this, we developed a native ad data scraping script from the MGID company, composing a database of 27,602 insertions over the course of a month. We found a farm network of content and ads containing viruses, gambling houses, financial scams, and miraculous body weight reduction substances. At the end of the paper, we discuss the contributions to the literature on misinformation and point to avenues for future studies. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

JOURNALISM - Abstract
Transparency is an increasingly valued aspect in Western journalism in recent decades. Its adoption implies changes in journalists’ behavior – such as their willingness to disclose aspects of their procedures – and requires a posture of greater public openness from the media. In Brazil, self-proclaimed independent media outlets emphasize their commitment to promoting more transparent journalism. In this paper, we analyze the cases of Agência Pública and The Intercept Brasil, based on 18 indicators from three categories of transparency: organizational/editorial, financial and public participation. In the end, the results made it possible to identify transparency efforts, gaps and potentials, but also elements that help to identify visibility strategies that distinguish these media from others. BRAND name products - Abstract
This paper discusses the presence of brands on the Roblox online gaming platform, in apps aimed at children, seeking to analyze the presence of organizations and brands in this metaverse environment through case studies. This is an intentional exploratory research through direct observation on Roblox, in virtual environments that contain actions and consumption by brands aimed at children, recording the programmed interactions between brands and child users through the affordances designed. Roblox focuses on user-generated content and creativity and is one of the most popular global gaming platforms, in which we found a hybridization of consumption, applications and brands, which seek to influence children’s consumption, especially in the Alpha generation, covering their entertainment. The results validate the need for further analysis through the study of mediations and interactions. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

DISINFORMATION - Abstract
This paper, which integrates a broader research, seeks to identify what are the fake news patterns propagated in the disinformation process about Covid-19 and evaluated by the Brazilian fact-checking agencies Fato ou Fake and Lupa. For this, the strategies for spreading false information about Covid-19 in the period from January to September 2020 are considered. As methodology, we use part of the procedures associated with the analysis of the media framework proposed, focusing mainly on themes and labels of the information checked. Of the most recurrent issues in the misinformation evaluated by the agencies, it can be said that Politics and Death were the two main ones, closely followed by themes related to cure and prevention, involving famous people. The high frequency of politics reveals the ideological polarization that is experienced in Brazil, slipping even in a global health crisis such as the pandemic of the new coronavirus. The aim of this paper is to refl ect upon the chronicles written by former soccer player Tostão, about the 2006’s World Cup, in the newspaper Folha de São Paulo. Thirteen chronicles of this newspaper plus another chronicles by the same author published in a book were used as sources, analyzed and interpreted by a historiographical and anthropological methodological point of view. It is noticeably from the narratives articulated by the chronicler and former soccer player that a variety of contents are explored, such as the dispute for power, corporeality and lack of courage due to moral issues to give meaning and elect the culprits among the Brazilian team for the failure in this competition. The paper presents the initial proposal for a communication model based on the ontological turn, taking the knowledge of the original peoples of Brazil not as a metaphor, but as analogues of concepts, based on three folds. The first one, the communication of things, deals with the contributions of actor-network theory to the field of communication, especially from the perspective that humans and nonhumans communicate, as a shortcut to access the second fold, communication between worlds, especially from the understanding of the hyperconnection of forest peoples as a communicational experience. The third fold concerns the Amerindian shamanic translation operation, which we intend to take as a reference to think about communication by equivocation. Finally, we systematized the proposal as a starting point for further research. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

LGBTQ+ films , *ROMANTIC love , *ROMANTICISM , *AESTHETICS , *HEGEMONY , *INTERTEXTUALITY , *SHORT films - Abstract
In this paper we propose the notion of "romanticism of artifice" to designate fabulation modes which are noticeable in contemporary Brazilian queer films that are marked, in its narrative and aesthetics, by traits such as the use of the cliché, intertextuality, mannerism, visual exaggeration and the appropriation of popular and hegemonic audiovisual repertoires. We work with the short films Os últimos românticos do mundo (2020) and Looping (2019), with the aim of situating the romanticism of artifice, partly legible and partly unnamable, as a kind of blur in the consensual order of the ideal of romantic love, producing a hiatus for the political which is built as an action of microrresistence capable to indicate a space beyond the violence against queer bodies. RACE relations , *ETIQUETTE , *COLONIES , *RACIAL inequality , *FILMMAKERS , *LUST - Abstract
This paper intends to discuss the notion of colonial desires in Brazilian cinema via a critical approach to the work of Gilberto Freyre. The point of departure is Xica da Silva (1976), by Cacá Diegues. If, in the film by the cinemanovista director, Freyre's erotic fantasy is activated in order to exalt the lust of the colonial period by the way of the sexualization of the black protagonist, in some feature films from the last decade (2010-2020), Freyre is mobilized both to illustrate the violence of colonization, as well as to allude to current racial tensions and inequalities, whether through fetishistic, sadistic or even non-violent scenes. Vazante (2017), by Daniela Thomas, Açúcar (2017), by Renata Pinheiro and Sergio Oliveira, Joaquim (2017) by Marcelo Gomes, The good manners (2017), by Juliana Rojas and Marco Dutra, and The Cannibal Club (2018), by Guto Parente, are some of the recent films that staged interracial sexual relations based on Freyre's erotic arsenal, although producing folds in this hegemonic narrative. The present paper tackles the issue of Brazilian visual memory in a discussion about the works of artists and researchers Rosana Paulino and Elian Almeida. More specifically, I discuss the strategies adopted by artists to revisit the representation of black bodies in critical fabulations that contribute to reconfiguring the gaze in/about Brazilian culture. From a conceptual point of view, the article discusses issues such as the role of archives, coloniality and visual culture. Building upon the notion of blotting (rasura) in Leda Martins, I propose the notion of erasure as a theoretical apparatus to understand Brazilian visual memory. Thus, it is expected to contribute with a conceptual category that allows to see the cracks and erasures of visuality in the Global South. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The paper proposes a reflection on the configuration of temporality in 21st century Latin American narratives that, directly or indirectly, fictionalize recent historical events. We start from the hypothesis that, in these narratives, through a phantasmatic aesthetic that metaphorizes bodies, the past gains centrality as a temporal dimension that imposes itself on the present. To develop this hypothesis, contemporary cinematographic and literary works will be put into dialogue, such as the films Aranha, by Andrés Wood, A Chorona, by Jayro Bustamante, and novels, such as O corpo interminável, by Cláudia Lage, Degeneração, by Fernando Bonassi. CONSUMER goods , *RITUAL , *CONSTITUTIONS , *POSSIBILITY - Abstract
Currently, it is clear that children are increasingly appropriating digital devices not only to communicate and socialize but also to play. The play as a cultural practice strongly linked to childhood is modeled and even resignified as communication possibilities change. This paper aims to think about the crossing resulting from the mediatized context in which we live, to understand how the constitution of others and, perhaps, new ways of playing for the connected child. For this, we look at the consumption rituals of Maria Clara & JP to understand how such ritualistic actions contribute to these mediatized ways of playing. Therefore, thinking about youtubers kids' games as devices able to articulate senses, as a useful way to understand the child's place in its mediatized dimensions, since such practices can promote consumer goods, guide and shape tastes, as well as worldviews. COVID-19 pandemic , *DRUG utilization , *COVID-19 , *DISINFORMATION , *HYDROXYCHLOROQUINE , *PARTISANSHIP - Abstract
In this paper, we analyze the circulation of disinformative links about the COVID-19 pandemic on Twitter, using a dataset of 159,560 links collected using Twitter's API between the months of March and July 2020. By mapping the network and observing the neighborhood of links and the most shared links, we observed a polarization and reduction of the circulation of links according to their direction (either pro hydroxychloroquine or anti hydroxychloroquine). The results also show more activity in the dissemination of pro hydroxychloroquine links, a group where we could also find more disinformation and more hyperpartisan media. Likewise, the circulation of traditional and institutional media is quite reduced in this group, strengthening the association between hyperpartisan media and disinformation. Therefore, we identified how the circulation of links on Twitter created an echo chamber structure, and the cluster favorable to the use of the drug for COVID-19 is associated to disinformation spread. In this theoretical articulation based on bibliographic research, the culture of intolerance, driven by the political context of hyperneoliberalism, is linked to the imaginary present on algorithmic platforms, where a fundamental mode of governance is practiced today. While not ignoring past manifestations of intolerance on the Internet, this paper intends to demonstrate how these platforms are environments even more favorable for such manifestations, given the peculiarities of their technology and their business model. To this end, certain aspects of their operation, classified as arena of attention, uneven omnimediation, calibrated exposure and flexible veridiction, are related to dispositions that Lacan associates with the imaginary and aggressiveness - respectively, narcissism, narcissistic identification with leaders, segregation and paranoia. The media is one of the main sources for the consumption of information about vaccines. With the growth of misinformation and vaccine hesitation, it is essential to understand how journalism produces meanings about this public health resource. In this paper, we analyzed Folha de S. Paulo's coverage for a year to investigate how the newspaper addresses vaccines. We observed aspects such as frameworks, sources, explanation of concepts, and benefits and risks of the vaccine. The results show that the analyzed articles play an essential role in bringing vaccination closer to everyday life and promoting its benefits. However, the approach to risks and controversies and citizen participation appears on a smaller scale, demonstrating room to expand the relationship between journalism, science, and society. This paper aims to find out how the points suggested by Everardo Rocha (1985) as social legitimizers of the advertising profession are present in the reports of workers from Belo Horizonte at the list Como é trabalhar aí?, an online file that circulated on the Internet with descriptions of the routines of agencies. Conceptually, the elements that constitute the profession's imaginary are presented and a discussion is made about the common practices of this occupation. Methodologically, the contents of the list are analyzed in order to identify the representations that advertisers make of their occupation within the scope of praxis. The results when compared show a negative scenario of abuse and exploitation far from what is socially represented to legitimize the profession and that, although different, both dimensions contribute to the construction of meanings of belonging to the same working class. This paper presents the partial results from a research study named "Comunicação, consumo e memória: da cena cosplay a outras teatralidades juvenis" (Call MCTI/CNPq/MEC/CAPES N. 22/2014 - Ciências Humanas, Sociais e Sociais Aplicadas) by the PPGCOMESPM. The relations between cosplay and furry scenes are investigated and the links between the production of cultural/social memory and consumption are evaluated to understand that memory is a communicative and emotional process. Based on historical data of artificial memory systems, of Tartu-Moscow semiotic theory, of meme concept and of consumption theories as well as on fieldwork perceptions, we aim to demonstrate the intricate set of affection memes composing the production of memories in media fan culture scene. - Abstract
This paper studies deboísmo, a "movement" disseminated in online social networks, which preaches the "doctrine" of "getting well" and disseminates its teachings using memes and humorous images. Based on the premise that the media has an important role in articulating ethical dilemmas (SILVERSTONE, 2007), the objective of the paper is to help understand what are the characteristics assumed by the moral precepts that circulate on the internet. The article addresses the relationship between media and morality and presents the results of the analysis of the aesthetic quality and the moral agency (CHOULIARAKI, 2008) of the commandments of the deboísmo published in the page Deboísmo in Facebook. Thus, it was possible to observe that deboísmo contributes to the naturalization of painless ethics, described by Lipovetsky (2007). [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

This How may indigenous practices from Oceania open up the possibility of a future occluded by the long epoch of surplus accumulation? This future is not unforeseeable, but rather one that co-exists as an impeded possibility in the present. The global South--whether as time, space, value or figure--inhabits the order of the non-synchronous and archaic vis-à-vis the global north as dictated by the normative law of surplus accumulation. In this paper I draw on Theodor Adorno's insight concerning the co-presence of the archaic in the time of modernity to argue that the perspectival aspect of modernity is built on the act of looking at something while looking through it. In other words, seeing concerns the paradoxical act of not-seeing, of looking through some aspect or dimension of whatever one is looking at. If, however, silence were to discover speech, and we commenced to look at what we have been taught to look through, modernity starts to take on an altogether different aspect. The Global South of Oceania, in particular, turns into a region of innovative archaisms, counter-national imaginings, surplus-subverting practices and communal forms of ecological ethics. This paper contends that archaic indigenous practices, in concert with scientific knowledge, may be in advance of the modern in offering a pragmatic response to the climate-related crisis generated by modernity. For this purpose, we do a descriptive analysis of Instagram documents that are addressed to its users, identifying what suggests action and practical consequence of digital materialities in terms of production, sharing and collection. Through them we identify the centrality of experience in this kind of informational construct developed in relation to datafication processes - which we call algorithmic experience. From a pragmatist and neomaterialist perspective, we suggest following this experience to understand the practical differences produced in the use of digital platforms and identifying relevant interactions in situated practices. This paper approaches the governance and control mechanisms applied by the video game company Blizzard upon its players and consumers. It reads from the controversy between the company and professional player Blitzchung, who expressed his support for the 2019 Hong Kong protests. The relation between labour, creativity and the platformization of capitalism is the thematic axis of this discussion. The aim of this paper was to discuss the relationship between 'creative' work and platform society by analyzing initial research results through an online exploratory questionnaire conducted in the first half of 2019 with workers from the Brazilian creative industry. Also resulting from reflections arising from the thesis I develop about the communicative dimension of 'creative' labour, this analysis deals with the platformization of creative labour, understanding from a critical perspective how the notions of creativity and work are associated with neoliberal subjectivity, flexibility, precariousness and the purpose / mission logic of work in today's platform society. This paper undertakes an exploratory analysis of cyber-advertising from Erving Goffman's perspective in Gender Advertisements. It was assumed that the digital environment, by allowing the spread of voices previously suppressed by the mass media; providing artefacts for cyber-activism, especially in relation to representativeness; and yet making emerge advertising with reality effect, could reveal significantly different imagetic results from those found by Goffman in print magazine advertisements in the 1970s. There was, however, a significant continuity of Goffmanian conceptions, revealing the urgency of future research that seeks the mapping of gender hyper-ritualizations in contemporary advertising. We propose to understand the relationship between media culture and modern life, based on the assumption that communication is a social practice, thought here under the aspects of temporality. Our premise is to seek the past as a tool to understand the present. In this paper we will assume the illustrated magazines as constructors of the city spectacle and the staging of modernity, translating to readers the ways of sociability suitable for that time and acting as mediators in this transformation stage. Our corpus will be composed of 12 editions of Fon-Fon!, published in 1908. We will take the sections "Na Calçada" and "O Rio Elegante", as well as some advertisements as objects of this analysis. The issue of the social exclusion of women has a historical character and is still present in contemporary society. When we shed light on this question in journalism, we can see a scenario of invisibilization and silencing. This paper offers a qualitative and quantitative investigation of social gender representations disseminated in the audiovisual narratives in Jornal Nacional, the biggest Brazilian television news program. Based on the Analysis of Audiovisual Materiality, we seek to understand the place of women as a journalistic source of information and opinion. From the analysis of the material published by the news program in the first semester of 2018, the objective is to contribute to the construction of a critical gender perspective on television news products in the Brazilian reality. - Abstract
Social media has become a key term in Media and Communication Studies and public discourse for characterising platforms such as Facebook, Twitter, YouTube, Wikipedia, LinkedIn, Wordpress, Blogspot, Weibo, Pinterest, Foursquare and Tumblr. This paper discusses the role of the concept of the public sphere for understanding social media critically. It argues against an idealistic interpretation of Habermas and for a cultural-materialist understanding of the public sphere concept that is grounded in political economy. It sets out that Habermas' original notion should best be understood as a method of immanent critique that critically scrutinises limits of the media and culture grounded in power relations and political economy. The paper introduces a theoretical model of public service media that it uses as foundation for identifying three antagonisms of the contemporary social media sphere in the realms of the economy, the state and civil society. It concludes that these limits can only be overcome if the colonisation of the social media lifeworld is countered politically so that social media and the Internet become public service and commons-based media. Using the public-private media gaze, this paper explores how thirty-seven years of Robert Mugabe's rule culminated in the militarization of nation-state under a civilian ruler. I argue that the civil-military relations in Zimbabwe - at least from the perspective of the public and private media -had the consequent effect of cult of personality and valorization of Robert Mugabe as the only leader suitable to rule Zimbabwe. Even in the face of waning popularity, the military and police ensured that Mugabe continued to hold on to the highest office in Zimbabwean politics. I further posit that post-independence Zimbabwean politics has seen both the military and police overtly and covertly meddling in national politics to the extent of making a farce of elections in Zimbabwe. Taking the example of Pape Pathé Diop's urban novel La poubelle (1984), the present article demonstrates that the description of structures and functions in the Global South city requires not only spatial but also temporal categories. Starting from the guiding metaphors of transitivity, daily rhythm and footprint effects developed by urban geographers Amin and Thrift (2002), as well as from Achille Mbembe's concept of time of entanglement, the paper analyzes the different regimes of temporality and the temporal entanglements that determine the relation between subject and community in Dakar. It shows that by focussing on temporality, Diop manages to integrate in his portrait of Dakar historical dimensions as well as global entanglements. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The aim of this paper is to analyze the Mexican fiction movie Reed, insurgent Mexico (1972), by Paul Leduc, highlighting the following aspects: its uniqueness as a civil war film in the Latin American cinematography, with an American reporter John Reed, as their conductive character, its documentary stance, a rare representation of Pancho Villa without stereotyping, and the primacy of this film in the dramatization of the subjectivity of its protagonist, highlighting their fears, their anxieties, their insecurities on the battlefield. In its strongest ties to the political cinema that was produced in the early 1970s in Latin America, particularly in its Southern Cone, this Mexican film slowly builds Reed's transformation from combat reporter to participant observer and, at the end, as he were an ideological operator. Ultimately, this is a rare work in the Latin American filmography 1970s and after: the representation of a passion for an ideal. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

- Abstract
This paper examines issues of Surfing magazine from 1978 until 1990. It has two aims. Firstly, to provide an overview of World Surfing Championships coverage in Surfing magazine between 1978 and 1990. Second, to address specifically the coverage of the participation of South Africa in 1978 and the non-participation between 1980 and 1990. The corpus consists of issues of the magazine published between the years mentioned above. The methodology follows the procedures suggested by Luca (2005) for historical research that has printed periodicals as both source and subject, combined with the perspective set forward by Booth (2008). As for the first aspect analyzed, the coverage emphasizes competitive aspects, such as the performance of athletes and teams, especially the USA's. Concerning the second aspect, in most cases the absence of South Africa was silenced. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

- Abstract
Divergences about the intensity of the relationship between State and Audiovisual has historically divided Brazilian cinematographic field. Recently, one of such divisions was motivated by the disapproval of Ancinav (Agência Nacional do Cinema e do Audiovisual) project by the consolidated industry. The project attempted to regulate the whole audiovisual field and to improve the incentive to independent production. The present paper analyzes the behavior of the cinematographic field, and allows a broad understanding of the cinematographic sector structure and major agents. It is possible to identify the motivations for the division of the sector and to deduce the changes that would have happened if Ancinav project had been approved. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Máquina da Fama (Fame Machine) is a reality show about the competition between artists performing cover versions and the transformation of guest artists onto music scene phenomena. By the end of 2015 the show was the second most seen by the audience and in the beginning of 2016 it beat Xuxa's TV show several times. The format is responsible for notable moments in TV channel SBT's contemporary history. As Máquina da Fama has become a hit on Brazilian television, this research sought to understand how the expressive resources used by this narrative appeal to the sensibility of the viewer. - Abstract
This paper aims to identify prestige indexes used by the cultural supplement Sabático (2010-2013) on its covers - an emblematic space of recognition - in the journalistic construction of book editors' image. After we gathered all Sabático's issues published by O Estado de S. Paulo (160 in total), we reduced our corpus to six issues that have book editors on their covers. The basis of the qualitative Content Analysis (CA) and the tension with the related theory points to three analytic categories, which are collectively related to the representation of these editors: Education, Networking, and Catalog. The positive image of editors created by Sabático's journalistic narrative personalizes the success of the companies when it relates these people to the distinction elements attributed to each of them. - Abstract
This paper analyzes feminist technological practices, questioning it's political and communicative nature. Focusing on Brazilian youth leadership activities, takes as an methodological point of view the Facebook's page called "Lady, you're sexist". It argues that the aesthetic and technological dimension of this kind of practices is inseparable from youth political appropriations operated in digital ambiences. Notes that "Lady" has his activism in border zones: the critique of gender binomial through ironic strategies of deconstruction of patriarchalism, lives with the progressive inclusion of "trans" themes, when suggests that it is not possible to establish universalizing categories what is "being a woman". We conclude that this feminist exercise dialogues, increasingly, with a "trans" episteme, promoting a quotidian and authorial politic action. The debate promotes gender otherness, to destabilize stigmas. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

- Abstract
Based on anthropological research with urban youth in the metropolitan region of Belém, North of Brazil, the paper proposes to discuss the redefinition of boundaries among public, private and intimate in communicative exchanges and juvenile forms of virtual storytelling in social networks on the internet. The field data reveal that, differently from the clearer boundaries between the public and private spheres of life that marked modernity, contemporaneously, the boundaries between them become vague and ambiguous. The online life, a place of belonging essential in the daily lives of the young people, which is permanent invitation to auto exposure, interpenetrating with the offline life. Utilizing the formulations from Leonor Arfuch (2005) and Rosalía Winocur (2011, 2012), the article argues that it is possible to discern two levels of juvenile intimacy - public intimacy and private intimacy. Something that is intimate is not communicable, associated to one's place, both in a physically and symbolically ways; the public one is permitted to show, and it can be both inside and outside the house. - Abstract
The Brazil experienced a revaluation of its official history with the installation of the National Commission of Truth (2012- 2014). This event appears at the time when the media is recognized as one of the history's catalyst instances. In this paper, we identify how the newspapers O Globo and Folha de S. Paulo positioned themselves discursively in this period, when the country proposed a (re) discuss about the its past. Here, we analyze the publications on the case of journalist Vladimir Herzog, one of the most emblematic and controversial case of the Military Dictatorship. We note that O Globo tended to follow the authorized and official discourses with a supposed objectivity. On the other hand, Folha de S. Paulo stood as a protagonist in the historical change, taking clear positions in opinions and discursive tensions. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

- Abstract
Starting from event and simultaneity concepts, the paper examines how the exhumation of the body of President João Goulart was narrated by four newspapers, from the removal of deadly cemetery remains in São Borja/ RS (November 2013 ), to the release of the final report (December 2014). It was examined how exhumation was used to treat memory at the local, regional and national levels, considering simultaneously: 1) Dictatorship (founder event); 2) Jango (subject that connects past and present); 3) Exhumation (new event). The methodology used is the qualitative analysis of texts and sense nucleation around the subject Jango, the exhumation and the past to which it is linked. Differences are detected between the dramatization of local newspapers, the technicality aesthetics of the regional newspaper and the policy moralization of the national newspaper. - Abstract
The purpose of this paper is to analyze the effects of meaning and composition techniques used in photographic works of Fred Ramos, Tom Kiefer and Shawn Clover. The studied pictures draws two visual forms of memoirs composition in photography: while the works of Ramos and Kiefer articulate a dialectical construction between remembering and forgetting in the image, Clover will build metaphorical propositions of apprehension of the past processes. Both of them, however, not only have the memory as a representation of an object, but they articulate an imagery critical to all memorialistic act, questioning their assumptions. - Abstract
Materiality is a theoretical blind spot. It is a barrier, an opacity, a negativity: it cannot be thematized, it cannot be represented. To expose this medial feature, this paper discusses the works of Hans Ulrich Gumbrecht and Dieter Mersch. Both establish a field called post-hermeneutic in which the materiality emerges as a key-concept to grasp the medial and communicative dimensions that are beyond of meaning's categories. This text intends to compose a brief introduction to the concept of materiality to the theories of media and communication. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Common approach to structuralist studies, the need to assign certain sounds to specific sources ignores the materialities of sound objects and their ability to produce effects beyond the sphere of language. This paper proposes an investigation on these different ways of perceiving the film as audible matter. Sound, taken as presence producer, can offer a less limited notion of cinematic experience. - Abstract
The aim of this paper is to discuss actornetwork theory from the "modes of existence" perspective, suggesting the inclusion of one another: "game beings". We discuss an issue that the reading of the last book of the French sociologist Bruno Latour, Enquête sur les modes d'Existence (2012), leaves open: the absence of a "playful mode of existence." It seems that this mode is one of the most important dimensions of modern subjectivity. The article presents the concept of the "modes of existence", proposes another one (the "ludic"), pointing to the existence of "game beings", and establishes correlations of this with other modes, such as technique, metamorphosis and fiction. The goal is to contribute to the discussion on actor-network theory, games studies and communication science as a whole. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The purpose of this paper is to analyse the digital productivity of Brazilian football supporters. From in-depth interviews and analysis of the material produced by fans of a particular club, Clube Atlético Mineiro, the article investigates the ways supporters appropriate the journalistic language and create narratives that are distinct from those of traditional media institutions. Formats vary from blogs to running web radios with regular programming. Motivations for engaging in the projects are also diverse, from improving writing skills to helping the club. Supporters promote innovative approaches in, for instance, creating texts that are less tied to traditional journalistic productive routines and to an increasingly rational language that has characterised sporting chronicles. All 33 articles on Communication and Sport GP were read. From a qualitative point of view, we discuss the theoretical and methodological consistency and compliance with scientific parameters. It is concluded that several studies still show weaknesses in these respects. From the quantitative point of view, we took into account the sport analyzed and the type of media / materials investigated. The analysis shows that the vast majority of them is dedicated to football and that the most common media as a source and / or subject is the internet. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

This paper intends to investigate how the popular can be taken as a matrix of Lula's discourse and how editorialists and columnists of the newspaper Folha de S. Paulo reframe this discourse as "populist" in 2006 and 2010, at the presidential elections, and, thus, sustain his political positioning. We seek to demonstrate how the opinions published in this newspaper resume the elements that make up the notion of "populism", hegemonic until the late 1970s, namely, that of a phenomenon that is characterized by a mass politics, a style of government that relies on manipulation and state protection of workers and that has characterized Brazilian politics between the years 1930 and 1964.
