In Mexico, there is a lack in academic research about bisexual Health-Disease-Attention process. This paper analyzes the main problems about health-disease for bisexual people with a Social Medicine and a Collective Health approach. In order to do this analysis, this paper offers a systematization of research's discoveries related to the Health-Disease-Attention process in bisexual people. Problems on health-disease for bisexual people include worse mental health conditions in comparison to gay and lesbian people. As psychologists have few contextualized knowledge about bisexual health-disease situations, then they cannot adequately respond to bisexual people needs. Bisexual Health-Disease-Attention process is an historical and social product where the lack of visibility and the negative valuation functions as mechanisms to regulate people's sexuality, which can be reproduced in Health-Attention places, such as Mental Health ones. The purpose of this paper is to study and provide a framework for the motivations of women to engage in and maintain a nutritional program in Mexico. Focusing on a physician–dietician counseling program, 10 in-depth interviews were conducted with women age 30–60 engaged in the program. Two different sets of motivations for women were found, intrinsic and extrinsic, consistent with the self-determination theory. A model presents each set of motivations including subsets that explain specifically what makes women want to continue a nutrition program. Objective: The overall aim of this paper is to examine effectiveness of an evidence-based intervention in community settings, and the factors associated with effectiveness. Limited research in the area of HIV prevention has focused on evaluating intervention program effectiveness in real-world settings. Methods: We implemented an efficacious theory-based sexual risk reduction intervention for female sex workers (FSW) called Mujer Segura across 13 different clinics in 13 sites across Mexico. The overall design was a cluster randomized Type I design simultaneously testing intervention program effectiveness with an observational study of implementation factors. We aimed to examine the effectiveness of Mujer Segura at reducing HIV/STI incidence among FSW participants at each site, and to examine the client-, provider-, organization-, and structure-related factors associated with program effectiveness. Results: We found lower HIV/STI incidence density in the intervention relative to the control group in 5 sites we labeled as “program effective sites,” but not in 8 sites we labeled as “program ineffective sites.” Using generalized estimating equations controlling for site and computed mean difference effect sizes, we examined statistically and practically significant differences, respectively, between the two groups of sites along various client-, provider-, organization-, and structure-related characteristics. Results indicated that client-level HIV/AIDS related knowledge, and proficiency and engagement in the organizational social context were associated with program effectiveness. Conclusions: Enormous resources are required to systematically and adequately test the role of multilevel factors on program effectiveness. We successfully implemented Mujer Segura in 13 sites in Mexico. Results suggest that other measures may need to be included in future implementation studies than the ones included here. We were able to point to a few specific factors that should be targeted to increase effectiveness of similar evidence-based programs in low- and other middle-income countries like Mexico. In Mexico, institutional care is the most widely used out-of-home placement resource for children who have been either abandoned by their parents or removed from their families to protect them from harm. Currently there are over 29,000 children and adolescents placed in approximately 725 institutions in Mexico. However, little is known about the perspectives of young people about their lives in this setting. We set out to explore young people's descriptions of their lived experience of everyday life in one institutional care setting in Mexico, with a focus on their daily activities and their relationships to significant others. Multiple qualitative methods (adapted Photovoice, mapping and focus groups) were used by researchers from both Mexico and Sweden. In this paper, we explore and analyze their experiences of being ‘almost home’ and living in an ‘almost family’. Life in the institution could be characterized as a highly structured, total institution wherein young people looked for ways to take control over times and places. It was safe but not quite home. Life was also strongly connected to stigma. Although in long-term placements, they refused to be labeled ‘orphans’. The stigma of being called orphans and living in the confines of the institution was countered by the young people's descriptions of importance of feeling safe, being adequately supported and cared for, having a sense of comfort and normality where they are living, and having emotional connections to those they live with. Being listened to and having a say in decisions related to their lives were also strongly recurrent themes in our study. This paper presents five concepts that articulate specific processes through which political and economic factors shape sexuality, drawing on ethnographic research on changing notions of marriage, love, and sexuality conducted in migrant-exporting rural Mexico and with Mexican migrants in Atlanta and New York. The first section describes how changing beliefs about love, marriage, sexual intimacy and fidelity constitute a cultural terrain which facilitates ‘vaginal marital barebacking’ in rural Mexico. The paper details sexual opportunity structures; sexual geographies; the multi-sectoral production of risk (including the ways in which housing, transportation, and other policy sectors together create the ‘recreation-deserts’ in which many migrants live); sexual projects, and externalities as conceptual tools that articulate how political and economic factors from the meso- to the macro-level shape sexuality. This paper presents a historical overview of the Interamerican Society of Psychology, which was founded on December 17, 1951, in Mexico City. Firstly, the historical circumstances of the foundation period are presented, as well as the people who made this organization possible, and the state of psychology on the American continent at that time. Secondly, the most important activities that the Interamerican Society of Psychology has developed during its 60 years are mentioned, such as the publication of books and scientific journals, the creation of several task forces and the Interamerican Congresses of Psychology. This qualitative study explores the way in which a group of 12 undocumented migrants from Latin America who live in the United States have experienced the process of coping with dying and with deaths in their home countries. The paper argues that the grieving process is unique for a group like this, where the undocumented status means that the migrants cannot go back home to help the dying, support the ones left behind, or receive consolation. The sadness and the guilt experienced in the process have particular characteristics when you are undocumented in a host country, and the mechanisms used to cope with the situation are different than if you are at home or away but are free to travel back and forth. One avenue for coping, for instance, is the use of communication technologies to create the illusion of ‘being there’, even when that is not an option. [ABSTRACT FROM PUBLISHER]

The CES-D is a screening instrument to measure depressive symptoms during the last week. It is useful and easy to use because no trained staff is needed to administer and score it. Interest in depression has been consistent in Mexico in recent years, and the CES-D is one of the most used scales. The goal of this paper is to present a bibliometric analysis of scientific papers reporting data obtained with the scale; the papers had to be published in a scientific journal with a reviewing board, a group of peer reviewers and be ISNN registered. Materials were found in EBSCOhost and Google Scholar databases. 80 papers were published between 1986 and 2011. An average of three papers was published every year . Most of the studies were developed in Mexico City and nationwide; there was a bi-national study, a multinational one, and four in several states combined. The journals with the highest number of papers were: SALUD MENTAL, Salud Pública de México, and Revista Mexicana de Psicología. There were 17 institutions involved in coordinating the studies; six of them were international. 41% of the studies were conducted with adolescents, 32% with women, and 90% in urban contexts. There are some areas which need further study to build a more comprehensive understanding about the distribution and characteristics of depressive symptoms and hence new studies must be designed to include understudied groups and populations. The protest is an independent action, sensitive historic character of reality, the product of past and present facts that allow us to understand the elements of a society such as Mexico. This paper outlines the elements to understand the psychological structure of collective protest, which is built everyday communication where material and symbolic interaction involves the recurrence of cognitions and emotions. The results obtained through a qualitative analysis that takes the principles of collective psychology identifies cognitions and beliefs shaped by concepts which route to intent to fight and denounce injustice, corruption product. Just as the affections, consisting of basic emotions such as joy, sadness, surprise, anger and fear, in addition to secondary or complex emotions like despair, discouragement, disappointment, worry and anxiety, including feelings of comfort and tranquility, combined with those of disgust, discomfort, pain and fatigue, feelings that reflect the logic and conditions of collective protests. Environmental issues entail both a social conflict (private vs. public interests) and a temporal conflict (short- vs. long-term interests). This paper focuses on the role temporal concerns play in influencing environmental engagement by quantitatively integrating results of studies that assessed the associations between time perspective and proenvironmental attitudes and behaviors. The meta-analysis included a total of 19 independent samples and 6,301 participants from seven countries (Australia, Brazil, Germany, Mexico, New Zealand, Norway, and the United States). Results showed that the associations between time perspective and proenvironmental behaviors were higher than those for proenvironmental attitudes. Supporting predictions, the associations between future time perspective and proenvironmental behaviors were strong and nontrivial compared to those for the combined past–present time perspective. The findings indicate that future time perspective seems to play an important role in influencing individuals’ attitudes and behaviors towards the environment. The number of HIV-positive Latinas of child-bearing age living on the US-Mexico border is a growing concern. Little is known about how religious beliefs influence the reproductive health decisions of these women in light of disease demands and cultural and religious norms that support high fertility rates and childbearing. Such decisions may be further complicated by the stigma of HIV/AIDS and structural issues related to immigration status and trans-border lives. This paper analyzes extant literature and supports the need for further research so that policy makers and heath and social service providers can develop meaningful and comprehensive reproductive-health related interventions. It has been suggested that anhedonia is a core symptom of the disorder that precedes and possibly plays a causal role during the subsequent development of schizophrenia. Several works confirmed high levels of anhedonia and lower levels of intrinsic motivation and positive affect in schizophrenic patients when compared to control subjects. On this paper we are dealing with the term gaudiebility, which is defined as a construct that includes all the set of modulators which regulate the enjoyment. The aim of this study was to evaluate if people suffering from schizophrenia show levels of gaudiebility significantly lower when compared to the average population. Data were obtained from two different adult samples. One sample (n=30) made up by schizophrenic patients of Hospital del Mar de Barcelona (Spain), the other one (n=37) made up by the general population was obtained by the use of snowball technique. All participants agreed to reply in writing to the gaudiebility scale (Padrós and Fernández, 2008). The results show that people diagnosed with schizophrenia (mean=48.27 and SD=11.22) showed lower scores in the level of gaudiebility [F (3)=4.303, p=.008] than control group (mean=56.73 and SD=9.80). The results came out as expected and were also consistent with the high levels of anhedonia, as well as with the low positive affective and intrinsic motivation levels found in different research. Further studies controlling the schizophrenia subtypes and the sociodemographic variables are required. Our pilot study suggests that the low gaudiebility levels found in schizophrenic patients should motivate the design of specific intervention programs to raise gaudiebility levels. From the Sexual Therapy positions, this paper studied the relationship of the affects associated to the masturbation with masturbation frequency. attitudes, religion and other variables of sexual behavior. It was a correlacional study with a trans-sectional design. An incidental sample of 395 Mexican psychology students (67 men and 328 women) was collected. The measure instrument was a sexuality survey. The attitude toward the masturbation, the masturbation frequency and the gender were predictors of positive affect. The attitude toward the sexuality and the low frequency of vaginal intercourses were predictors of negative affect. In conclusion, an attitude open to masturbation and practicing in with certain frequency are important requirements to enjoy it, having also weigh tile masculine gender. This paper distinguishes between two models of online learning: transmission and the generation of knowledge. The first model includes access to exhibitions, readings, tutorials, exercises, and tests, and is associated with superficial results of learning. The second model offers resources and functions of active, constructive, cumulative, and self-regulated learning. The proposal is made to operate a model of generating knowledge through a setting of learning called meta-tutor, which offers a variety of resources and high interactivity, and promotes the construction of knowledge and self-regulatory skills. The model was evaluated empirically in a psychology course. The results indicate that students who learn in this setting show significantly higher achievement in pre-test and post-test comparisons and in comparisons with a control group. This paper takes the theoretical construct of popular nosology of Latino folk illnesses and combines it with Edward Casey's concept of bodily remembering in order to more fully describe the role of memory and place in the illness experiences of the Amuzgos Indians of Oaxaca, Mexico. I ethnographically describe, across time, the interrelated links among social events, physical symptoms, and illness narratives of Latino folk illness popular nosologies as they are contextualized in their unique, social topographies. This enlarged theoretical perspective implies a smallest unit of meaning that is ethnographically defined, but that will often encompass more than the individual sufferer and more than one illness. The research objective of this study was to understand Amuzgan illness experiences through the narratives of detailed case histories and ethnographic observations that were gathered during 18 months of qualitative research. The data show that Amuzgos experience Latino folk illnesses as bodily rememberings of illness events combined with negative interpersonal interactions. The ability of public institutions to provide efficient and equitable potable water services is key to reducing water-borne diseases, one of the leading causes of morbidity and mortality in the developing world. In this article, a case study of potable water and public health programs in Tijuana, Mexico, is used to direct attention to practical examples of policy and institutional incapacities. A qualitative methodology was used to gain access to local context and the formal and informal actions of the key informants. This paper concludes that public health agencies are creating the illusion of program action through disease surveillance, however capacity gaps demonstrate that institutional policy is not pragmatically reflected on the local community level. Political client—patron relationships are used to circumvent bureaucratic barriers and distribute resources at the local level. Peoples that span national borders are ambiguous in that they in some ways partake of both nations and in other ways partake of neither. This paper analyzes how the boundary - the power to impose difference - of the United States and Mexico is being eroded by transnational developments causing the structure of the nationstates to become problematic. To the degree that anthropology is an official discipline predicated on the distinction between Self and the alien Other which it presumes to represent, the deterioration of the borders and boundaries of the nation-state have serious implications for its epistemology and legitimacy and its power of representation of transnational communities and of difference in general. Two population surveys of Mexico City residents were conducted, the first three weeks after the earthquake of September 1985 and the other a year later. We found that: (1) small percentages, because of the size of the metropolitan area population, translated into large absolute numbers for personal disaster behavior; (2) social class (or socioeconomic status) was important as a differentiating factor in earthquake-related behavior; (3) there was little dissatisfaction with organizational efforts to deal with the earthquake consequences along with (4) no noticeable increase in dissatisfaction from the time of the initial impact up to the year's anniversary of the disaster; (5) the earthquake-related sheltering and housing of people was not as problematical as the extensiveness of the activity might suggest; (6) the volunteering pattern of individuals was quite complex; (7) there was extremely heavy mass media usage in the earthquake aftermath; and (8) earthquake victims learned little from their experience on how to prepare for future disasters. The paper primarily uses these generalizations from the survey findings to advance eight basic themes about human behavior in disasters that might be comparatively examined in future cross-societal studies. We have found that community health workers (CHWs) with appropriate training are able to accurately identify people at high cardiovascular disease (CVD) risk in the community who would benefit from the introduction of preventative management, in Bangladesh, Guatemala, Mexico, and South Africa. This paper examines the attendance pattern for those individuals who were so identified and referred to a health care facility for further assessment and management. Patient records from the health centres in each site were reviewed for data on diagnoses made and treatment commenced. Reasons for non-attendance were sought from participants who had not attended after being referred. Qualitative data were collected from study coordinators regarding their experiences in obtaining the records and conducting the record reviews. The perspectives of CHWs and community members, who were screened, were also obtained. Thirty-seven percent (96/263) of those referred attended follow-up: 36 of 52 (69%) were urgent and 60 of 211 (28.4%) were non-urgent referrals. A diagnosis of hypertension (HTN) was made in 69% of urgent referrals and 37% of non-urgent referrals with treatment instituted in all cases. Reasons for non-attendance included limited self-perception of risk, associated costs, health system obstacles, and lack of trust in CHWs to conduct CVD risk assessments and to refer community members into the health system. The existing barriers to referral in the health care systems negatively impact the gains to be had through screening by training CHWs in the use of a simple risk assessment tool. The new diagnoses of HTN and commencement on treatment in those that attended referrals underscores the value of having persons at the highest risk identified in the community setting and referred to a clinic for further evaluation and treatment.
