An oft‐repeated and largely unexamined assumption in Jungian psychoanalysis is the notion of "analyzability", that is, of an individual's ability or present capacity to think symbolically. It is often taught that if someone is unable to think symbolically, a depth analysis is not possible. Such an individual may be more aptly suited for supportive psychotherapy, the argument goes, an experience that may very well lead to the development of the ego's capacity for symbolic thought but is not, in and of itself, a Jungian analysis. While this sort of categorical thinking has, at times, crossed over into ontological claims about individuals and groups, the notion of analyzability encountered in psychoanalytic theory and praxis is often cloaked in facially neutral language. The impact, however, has been anything but neutral in effect. In this paper, I propose a softening of our theoretical edges through a genealogy of the category of analyzability within the broader history of psychoanalysis. Through this excavation, I explore the contingent nature of the category of analyzability, how it has constricted knowledge, perpetuated inequality, and, more broadly, obscured ways of knowing. The last decade has seen growing interest across human geography in the concept of the unconscious as a key terrain for thinking social life. At the same time, an increasing number of geographers are exploring theorisations of the unconscious that push beyond the subject-predicate tendencies of much psychoanalytic thinking, addressing material and non-representational forces that exceed the confines of a human-centred understanding. This paper extends this work through an engagement with the philosophy of Gilbert Simondon, highlighting three key implications for geographical understandings of the unconscious. First, how it inverts the traditional emphasis on already-constituted psychic individuals to processes of psychic individuation that modulate the emergence and becoming of subjects. Second, how it shifts beyond the psychoanalytical fixation on negativity and repression through an understanding of the transductive potential of unconscious forces to create new forms of life. And third, how it opens a new way of articulating the relation of the psychic and collective as a relation of individuations that he terms the transindividual. Empirically, the paper turns to the subterranean landscape of dreams and desires in the novels of Haruki Murakami, exploring how literary encounters might open a space for thinking the transductive forces of the transindividual unconscious. This paper uses the concept of psychoanalytic culture, outlined by psychoanalyst Sérvulo Figueira, in order to discuss the construction of subjectivities in the United States in the 1970s. This concept refers to the assimilation of psychoanalytic ideas into artistic, advertising and media spheres, among others, and how they influenced and were influenced by the cultures that appropriated them. This enabled the design of scientific and popular methods of interpreting suffering and the construction of subjectivities. This paper focuses on the work of American artist Aline Kominsky (1948-2022), published amidst the sexual revolution debates of the 1970s. Kominsky was part of the counterculture generation that produced and distributed comics that challenged established social norms and the patriarchal nuclear family model and demanded the relaxation of sexual norms. The analysis of her work reveals how the artist sought in psychoanalytic ideas the ideal tools to contest social institutions and propose new and less oppressive civilizational models based on the reframing of sexuality. Sigmund Freud used and wrote about cocaine in abundance, and it was the only substance that connected him to Latin America. Freud's Cocaine Papers are the only theoretical works in which the founder of psychoanalysis refers to Latin America. These references serve exclusively to highlight the benefits of an American product and to try to make that product's consumption attractive to Europeans. This article analyzes Freud's Cocaine Papers and focuses on the different ways in which the founder of psychoanalysis thought and represented the "dark continent" of psychoanalysis, Latin America, in relation to cocaine, one of the present day's most anxiety-producing substances. These early works have been incorporated into psychoanalysis's conceptual foundations in radically different ways. However, his interest in cocaine has seldom been analyzed in connection to Latin America. Synchronicity describes a meaningful coincidence of events, which is familiar to us from treatments of our patients, but unfortunately has not yet been empirically substantiated. Adding to previous findings that point out beneficial aspects of synchronicity (Marlo, 2022; Lagutina, 2021; Connolly, 2015), in this paper I will show through a series of five synchronistic moments which happened in the context of therapy and analysis and which have been documented empirically, how synchronicities occur and can be used therapeutically. In my research I found several situational factors that can be considered structural aspects of synchronistic moments. Furthermore, I will show that synchronistic phenomena can have a positive influence if certain relational and transference‐countertransference referential aspects are considered by the therapist and analyst. The social, political and educational reality in Brazil, in recent years, has demanded new positions from the field that articulates Psychoanalysis and Education in the country. This article seeks ways for Psychoanalysis, as a critical theory, in dialogue with the field of education and politics, to contribute to a better understanding of the social symptoms that appear in educational issues and, in particular, in the wave of violence that currently plagues educational institutions. We understand that the recent attacks on schools have to be seen in the context of several other attacks, from the historical lack of investment in education in the country, to the spectre of death that surrounds everyday school life, with the high rates of homicides and suicides in adolescents - expressions and consequences of necropolitics and the suicidal state that is installed in Brazilian society. When discussing educational aspects, we necessarily need to articulate issues of science, nature, economics and politics. Since his first publications, the question of the historical constitution of the subject has been a central axis in the philosophy of the Argentinean thinker León Rozitchner (1924-2011). This paper analyzes how Rozitchner, through this issue, follows a path that goes from phenomenology to psychoanalysis, thus giving rise to a philosophical-political reading of Freud. In the first part, we reconstruct the theoretical continuities and ruptures that led him from Merleau-Ponty to Freud. Once this is done, we analyze the way in which, from his reading of Freud, Rozitchner notices the existence of two distances (one internal, the other external) in the historical constitution of the subject. Considering the growing number of murders of black people, many of whom were institutionalized, and based on emblematic cases, this paper aims to reflect on crime, the criminal, and the structural and historical racism of countries such as Brazil and the USA by following the psychoanalytic theory. It questions whether we have really overcome the systemic and indiscriminate racism of the Brazilian slavery period, or whether such racism has only changed its foundations, institutionalizing and persecuting black people as scapegoats against whom legalized punishment is authorized, or who are seen as evil incarnate and susceptible to punishment. Therefore, it seems that a current mode of enslavement allows us to choose black people as the criminals of our unconscious, for whom death is allowed, justified, and even necessary, in order to satisfy the desire to enjoy the suffering of the other, classifying that part of society as dispensable, since we support an ideal of a country that fosters slavery values and relegates evil to black people. This paper critically addresses the recent irruption of intersectionality in the psychoanalytic field. By establishing a parallelism between Marx and Freud, it shows their intersectional sensibility. However, it also points out how both start from the intersection and then explain it via a determining structure: a structure presented by Marx as capitalist, colonial, and patriarchal. At the same time, in Freud, it is revealed as overdetermined by each subject's story and oedipal configuration. It is observed how this structural level tends to go unnoticed in Max Belkin's work and other current proposals of intersectional psychoanalysis. Alternatively, the article evokes Mexican Santiago Ramírez's old psychoanalysis and reflects on how structure could produce the intersection. Through the content analysis of the tale Caperucita se come al lobo [Little Red Riding Hood eats the wolf], this paper aims to analyze the tensions between the sociocultural discursive and the unconscious that emerge in the erotic-affective experiences of women. Three major categories were identified in the text's narrative: 1. Feminism as a legitimizing code for women's actions in contemporaneity. 2. The young woman is represented as sexually active, desiring, and affectively detached. 3. The desire for love as an unconscious expression that defies the collective discourses, making the erotic-affective experience a singular one. These three tendencies that emerged in the analysis are interpreted in the light of psychoanalytic and psychosocial perspectives. They show that every epoch creates discourses that guide daily practices by constructing ideals that, despite their normative force, are impossible to embody because of the unconscious. This paper compares presentations of disorders of the sense of body ownership and agency from psychoanalytic and neurological perspectives to demonstrate similarities in symptomatology proposing these similarities arise from adjustments in Friston's generative model of self-organization and selfhood. The implications for the analytic model of the Self, for clinical practice and for neuroscience research are considered. Patients with narcissistic disorders use projective defences resulting in a disordered sense of what belongs to whom. This applies to mind and body of self and other and is central to understanding transference and countertransference. Clinical observations of this disordered sense of ownership and agency mirror findings in neurological disorders. This paper proposes that in both neurological and psychological disorders Friston's 'internal generative model' of selfhood is adjusted. Further to this whilst this adjustment may be either neurogenic or psychogenic, the final neural mechanism and symptomatic outcome are similar. On the basis of these observations the paper compares the concept of the Self from Jungian and psychoanalytic perspectives. Finally, the implications for the concept of the death instinct and Britton's concept of Xenophobia are explored along with the implications of these observations for clinical practice. In a previous paper the general characteristics of an on-line psychoanalytic treatment were presented. This paper is aimed to reflect, with a certain retrospective position, on the psychoanalytic treatments that had to continue on-line due to the COVID-19 contingency. It is proposed that in times of COVID-19 (and in general at any contingency) the recognition of the rupture of the vital everyday setting for both, analyst and patient is fundamental. From a psychoanalytical perspective, violence against women must be approached as violence against the feminine -a Lacanian concept that goes beyond the anatomy or the man/woman dichotomy and involves different modes of jouissance. Although there have been many advances in the social and legal fields, addressing violence still demonstrates the fragility and the need for policies and rights for women. This paper is based on articulating the image and discourse resources made in the miniseries Maid to address specific topics consistent with the problem and draw implications for theory and clinic. This paper is the result of a part of doctorate research. The aim is to understand the implications of the compulsion to repeat in the analysis of borderline cases to discuss the possibilities of overcoming the difficulties it entails. To that end, theoretical research was carried out on André Green's works on borderline cases. It showed that although the compulsion to repeat implies significant difficulties for analysis -which favors stagnation and casts doubts on the analyst's skills to bind together and represent-, it does not corroborate therapeutic inaccessibility. This paper investigates the process of communicating the diagnosis of childhood cancer considering the child's position, the parents' place, the effects of the medical discourse, and the intervention possibilities of the discourse of the psychoanalyst. Based on three clinical cases, the discussion points out how the analytic listening helped the team faced with a bioethical conflict increasingly present in pediatric oncology: should the child know the truth, or should they be protected from it? Being aware of the impossibility of telling the whole truth, the analyst can disentangle themself in advance from these imperatives and provide a discursive turn which highlights the child subject's singular knowledge in detriment of the formal academic knowledge. This paper focuses on the relationships between psychoanalysis and photography, stemming from the Photographic Service of the Salpêtrière, where Freud did a research internship in 1886 with Jean-Martin Charcot. Drawing significantly on the work of Georges Didi-Huberman, the purpose of this paper is to show how photography might be useful to a psychoanalytic investigation - starting with Salpêtrière, with all its importance in the history of psychoanalysis, which relevance becomes particularly evident when we consider the Salpêtrière's photographic iconography. The objective of this paper is to analyze, in the light of anthropology of the media in conjunction with a critique of culture inspired by psychoanalysis and its clinic, a set of film and television products that stage some of the cultural mutations that impact our contemporaneity. This article aims to present the theoretical construction on female sexuality and femininity in Freud, and then question it from a racial and gender perspective. To this end, the main references employed were works from black female authors who discuss the ethno-racial subject, as well as some which address gender and theories of intersectional feminism. This paper observed the conception of a universal woman that includes the attribution of traits of femininity which are linked to a white, bourgeois and motherly woman figure and, therefore, aren't comprehensive of gender, race and class in their totality, in order to erase the black woman's experience, marked by racism and a slavocratic history. Thus, an omission from Psychoanalysis can be observed regarding to the racial issue and, therefore, the need of think about a contextualized psychoanalysis, which takes into account the historical and social aspects of the reality in which it is inserted, is evident. This paper discusses the criticism by Paul B. Preciado, as well as some of its ramifications, in respect of psychoanalysis, which was presented at a conference held at the École de la Cause Freudienne, on November 19th, 2019. We intend to recognize and welcome Preciado's commentary and, in a more comprehensive manner, achieve this through the contemporary perspective of other disciplines, while also considering the possibility of the development of a new epistemology that sets the multiplicity of bodies and sexualities in contrast to the reading undertaken regarding the sexual difference within the psychoanalytic field. For this purpose, we critically analyze the response of three psychoanalysts to Preciado's intervention, and we discuss the issue with the epistemology of sexual difference while situating it in the contemporary dialogues between psychoanalysis and queer studies. Finally, we establish an interpretation of the sexual difference linked to the concept of apparatus, which is proposed by Michel Foucault; namely, as a political epistemology, and as a historically contextualized grammar of subjectivities, among others that are also possible. To better understand the widespread perception of misgovernment and helplessness in Brazil during the COVID-19 pandemic, this article examines two historic moments referring to the interface between plague and helplessness, from the psychoanalytic and political perspectives. Firstly, it addresses the intertwining between Freud's life and work, culminating with his experience during the Spanish flu pandemic, in 1920. Secondly, it analyses the measures put in place to combat the coronavirus pandemic, since March 2020, which -- until the moment I am writing this article (January 2022) -- killed more than 600,000 Brazilians and left more than five million families around the world in mourning. This paper is a theoretical reflection on some potentialities of the aesthetic moment: this is configured, at the same time, as a refuge from the storms of the present, as a possibility to strengthen the individual's ties with life, and as an opening to the future. The English pianist James Rhodes's relationship with classical music, as narrated by him in his autobiography, is presented as an expression of such potentialities. During its argumentation, the text describes the aesthetic moment as a moment of loosening of the boundaries of the self, which updates, to a certain extent, the infant's primordial relationship with the maternal object. The article emphasizes the limits of the aesthetic moment, as it does not replace the need for human interaction, while indicating its potential as a kind of bearable waiting place which keeps the horizon of the encounter open. This paper discusses trauma as an in-body memory based on ramifications that are manifested as "acts" in the body, and which replace psychic elaborations. In thispsychoanalytic perspective, repetition is manifested as fixation to a joissance "beyond" and as regression as a kind of memory that avoids the new and looks to traces of past memory left in the body. To this end, the nightmare lived and narrated by activist Eve Ensler in her book In the body of the world: A memoir (2014), will be used as reference. Ensler speaks of the deeply intimate and painful relationship she has with her body and how it changed throughout her life, after spending time with women victims of sexual violence. This paper discusses the assumption that affect is a key determinant in recognizing contemporary family relations in law, a discursive field that officially legitimizes the family. To do so, a theoretical research explores the notion of affect in everyday language, which equates it to emotions, feelings, and passions, comparing it with the definitions of psychopathological semiology, which also fails to conceptualize the aforementioned notion. Psychoanalysis is used, therefore, to broaden the discussion, understanding affect as an effect produced by relations with the Other in the Self and in the body through the signifier. This allows us to include desire and demand in the reading of family relations, and thus to consider affect beyond its imaginary dimension and contribute to the work of psychologists who deal with family law. The aim of this paper is to delimit the theoretical path of the concept of Death Drive in Jacques Lacan in order to emphasize its relationship with the Freudian concept das Ding and Object a. In this sense, we will be directly involved with the field of the Real as a record of the inadequacy that escapes the imagery and symbolic processes that build our perspective of the world. Therefore, we will specifically deal with the Death Drive as a negative ontology that is present in the transference bonds of analysis and our subjectivity, as well as trace its relationship with Object a, object-cause of desire. In this sense, our aim is to highlight the way in which the Death Drive is directly linked to Symbolic Castration and how it affects us. Finally, we will make some considerations and draw some conclusions about the Death Drive within the Lacanian project as the engine of the analytical process as the foundation of transference bonds. This broadens the conceptual framework of psychoanalysis, enriching and contrasting theories, as well as psychopathology, clinic and the type of interventions, in light of current knowledge of the brain/mind relationship. The diagnosis of depression is one of the most prevalent in contemporaneity, with an incidence considered an epidemic by the World Health Organization (WHO, 2020). According to psychoanalysis, the study of depression should be carried out in the clinic individually but also by analyzing the sociocultural perspectives in which the subject is inserted. This paper, which is the result of a master's research, proposes a discussion on the diagnosis of depression from a psychoanalytic perspective. It also presents a case report of a patient treated in a private clinic. The discussion focuses on the Lacanian discourses and their contribution to contemporary clinical practice. This paper addresses some conceptual and clinical issues regarding the function of Lacanian psychoanalysis in the so-called treatment for obesity. As obesity is a category coming from nutritional medicine, this work delimits specific coordinates that we consider necessary to question critically. Firstly, we introduce the topic and identify the theoretical and clinical problematic points. Secondly, we clarify the status of the issue on the topic. After that, we elaborate a series of hypotheses to deepen the analyst's function in this treatment, supported by the oscillation between obscenity and shame. The Spanish-speaker readers interested in psychoanalysis have been at a disadvantage for the last two decades with respect to their peers from other languages. Freud's recently found or declassified manuscripts and drafts have been minimally rendered into our language. This paper makes available the first outcome of a research project on the history of psychoanalysis consisting of the selection, classification, dating, and translation into Spanish of unpublished manuscripts by Sigmund Freud recently declassified by the Library of Congress of the United States. This paper is about music and psychoanalysis and proposes convergences between both disciplines, not to psychoanalyze the musical or musicians' activity, but to determine and describe what music can contribute to the psychoanalytic practice. To this end, it establishes relationships between some concepts proper to the aesthetic music theory and some central psychoanalytic notions to illustrate the relationships between sublimation and the death drive. The aim is to highlight that the relationship that the subject establishes with music is not only supported on the life drive or eroticism but also on the thanatic, i. e. the determinations of the drive vicissitudes traced by desire and jouissance. With the aim of providing public, empirical data on the psychology undergraduate education offered by the University of Buenos Aires, Argentina from a socio-bibliometrical perspective, we conducted a quantitative and qualitative analysis of the mandatory readings of the 22 compulsory undergraduate syllabi of the basic and professional cycles (N = 2572) at the psychology program, retrieving information on 12 socio-bibliometric indicators, and comparing our results with studies of previous decades. Our findings indicate a hegemonic and almost exclusive predominance of psychoanalytic texts and authors, a decrease in other theoretical orientations, in texts published in recent years and in papers from refereed journals, an increase in authors with a psychology degree, and a literature obsolescence of more than 35 years. Objective/Context: This article studies psychoanalysis in the 1910s and aims to understand the impacts of the Great War and soldiers’ neurosis on the psychoanalytic movement and knowledge through the Fifth International Psychoanalytic Congress in 1918 in Budapest. Methodology: In dialogue with cultural studies on the Great War and intellectual history, this paper investigates psychoanalytical spaces of sociability, such as the International Psychoanalytical Association and its congresses. Originality: A thorough historiographical review reveals few detailed publications on the Budapest Congress itself. This article fills the gap by synthesizing prior findings about the congress, connecting the historiographies of psychoanalysis and World War I. Conclusions: The congress in Budapest was a milestone for psychoanalysis, considering the first governmental recognition of psychoanalytical treatment, theoretical changes produced by war neurosis, and institutional modifications in the International Psychoanalytical Association, such as the expansion and democratization of psychoanalytical treatment. The art movements of Cubism and Abstract Expressionism, influenced by Jung and Freud, emerged as a symbolic representation of the collective unconscious, and became an expression of the challenging times of a culture in transition. Similar to the technique of interpretation in psychoanalysis, Cubist painting was a method of demarcation, rather than an imitation of what was seen in the physical world. Also, as an expression of collective experience, the avant-garde movement of Abstract Expressionism emerged out of Cubism. It moved away from the logical idealism of Cubism into an expression of felt experience. This paper will review the art of the avant-garde Cubist and Abstract Expressionist movements. This paper posits that autists do possess knowledge on the autistic psychological functioning. To demonstrate it, the article examines the autobiographical accounts of Lucy Blackman, a non-verbal autistic writer, whose analysis allowed us to understand the logic of autistic symptoms and highlighted the feasibility of a new libidinal regulation in autism. This paper suggests that to approach another person confident that we are in possession of 'universally applicable' concepts and ideas is to begin in the wrong place both with that person and our ideas. It is to begin as someone who is well armed, well trained and perhaps too focused on succeeding by finding what she is looking for. Looking carefully at the particular, looking like a foreigner who has never seen what is before her is contrasted with looking like someone who is concerned with conquest and domination. In particular, this paper takes a sceptical view of the claim or assumption that psychoanalysis is 'universally applicable' and that a training in psychoanalysis prepares a practitioner to engage thoughtfully and honestly with race and culture. It argues that although psychoanalysis tends to treat race and culture as if they are marginal and optional, in its theorising, its practice and history psychoanalysis betrays the fact that race, culture and the treatment of what is regarded as foreign are central and fundamental to it. This paper is a phenomenological and psychoanalytical response to a set of papers. As a psychoanalyst, philosopher, and intellectual historian, I am interested in 'intention' in the phenomenological sense, that is, how someone both reaches out to and shapes their world. This paper aims to explore some theoretical and methodological tools for addressing adolescent and youth subjectivities in contexts of rights violations. The theoretical perspective is nourished by the interdisciplinary dialog between psychoanalysis and contributions from philosophy and the social field. The life story of a young woman from a low-income sector, whose biographical experience was marked by precariousness and violence, was analyzed in a detailed and holistic manner. Teenagers and youngsters find different ways to escape from the world scene. In the contemporary context, we can find slow or "non-violent" suicides through chemical substances, ingestion or refusal of food, exposure to risk factors, and suicide unconsciously sought through fatal accidents, among others. We confer to the "prelude to the interviews" a relevant treatment device in psychoanalysis. This paper aims to propose, through the presentation of some case reports and the theoretical elaboration on the referred cases, a treatment device prior to the preliminary interviews. The path for writing the text was built from the clinical practice of a psychologist, guided by psychoanalysis, in a hospital of the Santa Casa de Misericórdia complex. The bibliographical references used for theorizing the praxis were borrowed from the work and teaching of both Sigmund Freud and Jacques Lacan, as well as from contemporary psychoanalysts commenting on them. Thus, we designate the prelude to the interviews as the major contribution of the praxis in the context of hospital emergencies, and it proves to be, in this sense, a beneficial tool for the practice of psychoanalysis in institutions. This paper presents the results of a master's research that, based on Theodor Adorno's philosophy, argued the proposition that psychoanalysis is essential to address the question of human freedom in late capitalism critically. Specifically, it develops Adorno's critique of the superego, based on Freudian psychoanalysis, to demonstrate how superegoic morality limits the freedom of individuals by imposing heteronomous mandates that operate using unconscious mechanisms related to the internalization of social coercion. This paper aims to investigate the impasses in the process of black identification in Brazil and its socio-historical trajectory, shaped by factors of social paranoia inherent in the process of violence and crime. Freudian psychoanalysis recognizes that identification is the primitive and primordial form of affective linkage with an object, i.e., a process deeply rooted in the subject's singularity and our social activities. In this paper, we aim to reassess the relevance of the concept of subjection in the guise of the contribution of Donald Winnicott. Traditionally associated to psychological development theories and more recently to identitarianism,the ideas of the English psychoanalyst are usually eschewed in contemporary debates regarding the deconstruction of the subject and the critique of identities. Advancing a repositioning of Winnicott in this debate, we propose the idea of a double turn, the first organizing the pre-subjective position that Winnicott named as being; and the second turn, the emergence of the subject itself from the dialectics of destruction x survival of the other. This paper contributes to the investigation of fear as a driver of collaboration--transformed into consent--in neoliberalism. To do so, it first resumes some of Christophe Dejours'ideas, highlighting the role of work and fear in the neoliberal machine. Since these ideias disregard some questions about the nature of collective engagement, the text turns to Freud's analysis of mass psychology in search for answers. Finally, after showing the limits of such analysis, excessively focused on the figure of the Father (or the leader), it draws on Jacques Lacan to elaborate a new mass psychology more adequate to current society. This article proposes a contribution to psychoanalytic historiography by revisiting Freud's founding texts, The history of the psychoanalytic movement, published in 1914, searching in it for the first clues on how to operate at the interface between psychoanalysis and history. From this inaugural text, the paper examines some psychoanalysts and historians who investigated the link between psychoanalysis and history, to find convergences and divergences on the practice of the psychoanalytic historian. Lastly, it proposes three axis for a psychoanalytic historiography, articulated around the concepts of afterwardsness, das Ding and historical truth. This paper analyzes the psychoanalysis subjects taught in psychology programs in the state of Acre by the syllabus and bibliographies of the corresponding disciplines, available on the curricular pedagogical projects of the four existing programs. A descriptive and qualitative study was conducted based on documentary sources investigated by content analysis. The results indicated syllabuses that emphasize Freudian teachings and a preference for national publications. Lack of classes on psychoanalytic research and clinic beyond the classic model stands out amidst the identified gaps, calling for changes that may subsidize investigations and practices in the Amazon context, fomenting the development of this approach aiming at the formative journey that the Freudian discipline requires.
