Abstract

The article discusses the highlights of the inaugural meeting of the Entomology Academy of India held in Chennai on August 18, 2007. Academy Secretary and Treasurer R. W. Alexander Jesudasan emphasized the need for having an academy dedicated to entomology. S. E. Hasnain of the University of Hyderabad stressed the importance of an efficient quarantine system to prevent the transport of pathogens causing plant diseases. Researcher B. K. Tyagi presented a paper on arthropods and their biomedical importance.

Abstract

Information about several papers discussed during the two-day national symposium on "Non-Chemical Insect Pest Management," conducted by the Entomology Research Institute in Chennai, India on February 5-6, 2009 is presented. Topics include the preparation and application strategies of plant-based pesticides, novel microbial pesticides and mass rearing techniques for biocontrol agents. The symposium featured several scientists including B. Vasantharaj David, P. S. Vimala Devi and R. J. Rabindra.
