The article discusses the phenomenon involving PC Magazine in the personal computing magazine industry. The first issue of PC Magazine was dated February/March 1982--a bimonthly that went monthly in September 1982. Even at the higher frequency, PC Magazine was big, stuffed with advertisements and editorial coverage. It supported and explained the growth of personal computing, and personal computing supported the magazine in return. A dramatic redesign in 2006 seemed to turn PC Magazine into another magazine for people with short attention spans. There seems to be a lot less text on those pages, with bigger photographs, lots more white space, fewer tables and hand-written annotations taking up space previously devoted to text and tables.
