Staphylococcus aureus is associated with dairy mastitis, which causes serious economic losses to dairy farming industry. Antibacterial peptide NZX showed good antibacterial activity against S. aureus. This study aimed to evaluate pharmacokinetics and pharmacodynamics of NZX against S. aureus-induced mouse mastitis. NZX exhibited potent in vitro antibacterial activity against the test S. aureus strains (minimal inhibitory concentration (MIC): 0.23–0.46 μM), low mutant prevention concentration (MPC: 1.18–3.68 μM), and a long post antibiotic effect (PAE: 2.20–8.84 h), which was superior to those of lincomycin and ceftiofur. Antibacterial mechanisms showed that NZX could penetrate the cell membrane, resulting in obvious cell membrane perforation and morphological changes, and bind to intracellular DNA. Furthermore, NZX had a good stability in milk environment (retention rate: 85.36%, 24 h) than that in mammary homogenate (47.90%, 24 h). In mouse mastitis model, NZX (25–400 μg/gland) could significantly reduce the bacterial load of mammary tissue in a dose-dependent manner. In addition, NZX (100 μg/gland) could relieve the inflammatory symptoms of mammary tissue, and significantly decreased its pathological scores. The concentration–time curve of NZX (100 μg/gland) in the mammary tissue was plotted and the corresponding pharmacokinetic parameters were obtained by non-compartment model calculation. Those parameters of Tmax, T1/2, Cmax and AUC were 0.5 h, 35.11 h, 32.49 μg/g and 391 μg·h/g, respectively. Therefore, these results suggest that NZX could act as a promising candidate for treating dairy mastitis disease caused by S. aureus. The improvement of activity and yield through modification and heterologous expression, a potential way to solve the problem, is a research hot-pot. In this work, a new plectasin-derived variant L-type AP138 (AP138L-arg26) was constructed for the study of recombination expression and druggablity. As a result, the total protein concentration of AP138L-arg26 was 3.1 mg/mL in Pichia pastoris X-33 supernatant after 5 days of induction expression in a 5-L fermenter. The recombinant peptide AP138L-arg26 has potential antibacterial activity against selected standard and clinical Gram-positive bacteria (G+, minimum inhibitory concentration (MIC) 2–16 µg/mL) and high stability under different conditions (temperature, pH, ion concentration) and 2 × MIC of AP138L-arg26 could rapidly kill Staphylococcus aureus (S. aureus) (> 99.99%) within 1.5 h. It showed a high safety in vivo and in vivo and a long post-antibiotic effect (PAE, 1.91 h) compared with vancomycin (1.2 h). Furthermore, the bactericidal mechanism was revealed from two dimensions related to its disruption of the cell membrane resulting in intracellular potassium leakage (2.5-fold higher than control), and an increase in intracellular adenosine triphosphate (ATP), and reactive oxygen species (ROS), the decrease of lactate dehydrogenase (LDH) and further intervening metabolism in S. aureus. These results indicate that AP138L-arg26 as a new peptide candidate could be used for more in-depth development in the future. Aortic injuries are the second leading cause of death after head injuries due to traffic accidents, and strain-induced injuries are becoming increasingly prominent. The quantitative study of aortic strain injury allows for a rapid assessment of the degree of aortic injury after an accident and timely diagnosis of the pathology of aortic injury. It is more reliable than diagnosis based on clinical symptoms alone and it is faster than diagnosis based on imaging. Based on the porcine aortic tensile and injury tests, this study obtained the maximum stress threshold of the aorta that can withstand tensile stress and the safe stress threshold under tensile action, which provides a more detailed data reference about aortic injury in the field of internal medicine. Injuries to the aorta under various degrees of traction were analyzed in detail. A comprehensive and quantitative evaluation criterion for aortic strain injury was proposed, which provides a more in-depth reference for the mechanism of aortic strain injury. La0.8Sr0.2MnO3 (LSM) catalyst has been successfully prepared by solid phase method (G-LSM-T), sol–gel method (C-LSM-T) and molten salt method (S-LSM-T), using as-prepared MnCO3 microspheres as templates, respectively. It was shown that the S-LSM-550 catalyst presented well-formed perovskite structures, large specific surface area (49.65m2/g) and promising catalytic activity in CO oxidation, which T50 and T90 for CO conversion over fresh S-LSM-550 were 145.14 °C and 170.73 °C. The S-LSM-550 calcined at 550 °C for 2 h exhibited excellent thermal stability and catalytic activity compared with the samples prepared by solid phase method and sol–gel method. Its superior catalytic performance could be greatly attributed to its stable microstructure, high surface Mn4+/Mn3+ molar ratio and more available surface adsorbed oxygen species. The purpose of this study is to explore the differences in the steroid metabolic network between hyperandrogenic and non-hyperandrogenic women with polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS). A sensitive liquid chromatography-tandem mass spectrometry (LC–MS/MS) was employed for the quantification of 36 kinds of serum steroids in 80 PCOS women during their follicular phase. Compared with those in non-hyperandrogenemia PCOS women (NA-PCOS), the levels of 17-hydroprogesterone (P = 0.009), androstenedione (P < 0.001), total testosterone (P < 0.001), dihydrotestosterone (P = 0.025), estrone (P = 0.007), and estradiol (P < 0.001) were increased in hyperandrogenemia PCOS (HA-PCOS) women. It was suggested that HA-PCOS may have increased activity of P450c17 (17-hydropregnenolone/pregnenolone, P = 0.008), 3βHSD2 (androstenedione/dehydroepiandrosterone, P = 0.004), and 17βHSD3 (testosterone/dehydroepiandrosterone, P = 0.01) and decreased activity of 5α reductase (dihydrotestosterone/testosterone, P = 0.008). Moreover, the ratio of luteinizing hormone (LH) to follicle stimulating hormone (FSH) was found to be related to these increased steroids and enzyme activities. In conclusion, the HA-PCOS and the NA-PCOS women showed different steroid profiles, and the different enzyme activities in steroidogenic pathway may be the main reason for the difference. Electrical stimulation therapy has attracted widespread attention for its advantages of promoting cell proliferation and tissue regeneration, accelerating skin barrier restoration, and reducing scars. Its effect on accelerating wound healing has been clinically proven. However, traditional electrical stimulation therapy requires large power supply devices, which are inconvenient to carry and use. Therefore, self-powered flexible nano-piezoelectric membranes were developed in this work, which can generate electric field under mechanical stimulation to effectively eliminate bacteria and accelerate wound healing. In this work, poly(vinylidene fluoride-trifluoroethylene) (P(VDF-TrFE)) piezoelectric membranes were fabricated by electrospinning, and better piezoelectric properties were obtained by adding tetrabutylammonium chloride (TBAC), and their antibacterial and pro-healing effects were investigated with or without mechanical stimulation. Results showed that the output voltage of P(VDF-TrFE)/TBAC piezoelectric membrane was about 5.3 times higher than that of P(VDF-TrFE). Furthermore, the P(VDF-TrFE)/TBAC piezoelectric membrane had excellent antibacterial effect against both Escherichia coli and Staphylococcus aureus after mechanical stimulation, and the inhibition rates of Staphylococcus aureus and Escherichia coli were 71.43% and 97.25%, respectively. Meanwhile, the results of in vivo and in vitro healing promotion experiments showed that P(VDF-TrFE)/TBAC piezoelectric membrane was effective in promoting cell growth and wound healing after mechanical stimulation, the wound was almost completely healed on the 7th day, and the healing rate was increased by about 37% compared with the blank. Wireless sensor networks (WSNs) are being employed in a growing variety of fields for efficient monitoring and data collection about events that would be impossible with conventional computing platforms. WSNs are self-organizing networks that collects and processes important information via their resource-constrained sensor nodes and provide valuable information about happening events. The unattended nature of sensor nodes in these networks makes them vulnerable to a wide range of threats, and the resource limitations imposed on their nodes complicate things even more while monitoring the target regions. This study relies on an identity-based encryption (IBE) approach to protect these nodes' resources while ensuring that they collect valuable data from the target regions. IBE simplifies the key generation process in these networks and at the same time improves the network security up to a sufficient level. For this purpose, an identity-based encryption online/offline (IBOOE) algorithm is proposed as a more acceptable solution to the security concerns of these nodes. IBOOE improves on the previous algorithm, i.e., IBE, by splitting the encryption into two phases: offline and online. The offline phase is mainly responsible for complicated and resource-intensive operations, e.g. exponential operation and pairing operation. The online phase, on the other hand, is mainly responsible for relatively easy calculations such as integer multiplication or hash operation. Two novel coordination polymers {[Cu4(H2dam-dap)4(ClO4)2]·2ClO4}n (1) and [Cu3(H2dam-dap)2(N3)2(NO3)2]n (2) have been obtained through the copper salts and 3-(3-Amino-propylimino)-butan-2-one oxime (H3dam-dap) ligand, which was synthesized by one-pot reaction in the preparation process of complexes. Single-crystal X-Ray analysis shows that complex 1 displays a cage-like 12-MC-4 metallacrown structural unit with the sides exhibiting Cu–N–O repeat units, and the cage-like structures have been linked into one 1D chain by the bridges of ClO4− anions; 2 possesses trinuclear [Cu3(H2dam-dap)2]4+ unit with three Cu ion locating in a linear arrangement, and the adjacent trinuclear units are linked into a 2D coordination polymer by bridging nitrate anions. Magnetic studies reveal that 1 displays ferromagnetic coupling between metal centres, and 2 exhibits antiferromagnetic interaction and field-induced frequency-dependent behavior. Vascular dementia (VaD) is the most common cause of dementia in older adults. Due to the lack of effective treatment options, there is an urgent need to find an effective pharmaceutical compound to combat VaD. Piracetam has been reported to improve impaired cognitive function in a variety of conditions in both human and animal models. However, the role and mechanism of Piracetam in VaD remain unclear. Therefore this study aimed to elucidate the effect of Piracetam on a cellular model of VaD in vitro. We found that Piracetam enhanced the growth of OGD-stimulated SH-SY5Y cells. In addition, Piracetam inhibited the oxidative stress of OGD-stimulated SH-SY5Y cells. Further, Piracetam improved mitochondrial function of OGD-stimulated SH-SY5Y cells. Mechanistically, Piracetam inhibited the PI3K/Akt/mTOR pathway in OGD-stimulated SH-SY5Y cells. Collectively, Piracetam improved oxidative stress and mitochondrial dysfunction of OGD-stimulated SH-SY5Y cells through PI3K/Akt/mTOR axis. Wound infection caused by Staphylococcus aureus (S. aureus) is a great challenge which has caused significant burden and economic loss to the medical system. NZ2114, a plectasin-derived peptide, is an antibacterial agent for preventing and treating S. aureus infection, especially for methicillin-resistant S. aureus (MRSA) infection. Here, three-dimensional reticulated antimicrobial peptide (AMP) NZ2114 hydrogels were developed based on hydroxypropyl cellulose (HPC) and sodium alginate (SA); they displayed sustained and stable release properties (97.88 ± 1.79% and 91.1 ± 10.52% release rate in 72 h, respectively) and good short-term cytocompatibility and hemocompatibility. But the HPC-NZ2114 hydrogel had a smaller pore size (diameter 0.832 ± 0.420 μm vs. 3.912 ± 2.881 μm) and better mechanical properties than that of the SA-NZ2114 hydrogel. HPC/SA-NZ2114 hydrogels possess efficient antimicrobial activity in vitro and in vivo. In a full-thickness skin defect model, the wound closure of the 1.024 mg/g HPC-NZ2114 hydrogel group was superior to those of the SA-NZ2114 hydrogel and antibiotic groups on day 7. The HPC-NZ2114 hydrogel accelerated wound healing by reducing inflammation and promoting the production of vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF), endothelial growth factor (EGF) and angiogenesis (CD31) through histological and immunohistochemistry evaluation. These data indicated that the HPC-NZ2114 hydrogel is an excellent candidate for S. aureus infection wound dressing. Bark is an essential component of tree branches, yet its role in controlling branch-leached dissolved organic matter (DOM) characteristics remains unknown in forests. Here, we collected branches (about 1.5 cm in diameter) of two evergreen coniferous trees, two deciduous broadleaf trees, and three evergreen broadleaf trees from a subtropical forest in southern China, and subsequently used a bark removal experiment to determine the effects of bark on branch-derived DOM quantity and bioavailability. Regardless of tree type, the presence of bark reduced tree branch-leached dissolved organic carbon (DOC), dissolved total nitrogen (DTN), and dissolved total phosphorus (DTP) productions. Moreover, DOC, DTN, and DTP productions leached from the branches containing bark were always much lower than the expected values summed from barks and the branches without bark. The presence of bark increased DOM aromaticity in the broadleaf tree branch leachates but reduced DOM aromaticity in the coniferous tree branch leachates. During 42 days of incubation, the presence of bark decreased broadleaf tree branch-leached DOM bioavailability and the relative increments of aromaticity, whereas the opposite trends were observed for the coniferous tree branch-leached DOM. Tree branch-derived DOM bioavailability correlated negatively with SUVA254 values, but exhibited no relationship with either DOC:DTN ratio or DOC:DTP ratio. These observations highlight that tree bark can prevent DOM leaching from branches and regulate branch-leached DOM bioavailability via its effect on DOM aromaticity in subtropical forests. High-throughput sequencing of the 16S ribosomal RNA (16S rRNA) gene has been successfully applied to explore the microbial structure and dynamics in various environments. The distinctive microbial communities in oceanic trench sediments are expected because of the extremely high pressure and V-shape topology that caused the isolation from the other marine sediments. However, they have only been primarily targeted using 'universal' primers that provide variable performances for different environments. It is necessary to design specific primers to improve the detection resolution of unique microbial groups in oceanic trenches. Here, we designed one pair of bacterial and two pairs of archaeal specific primers based on 16S rRNA gene full-length sequences that truly come from trench sediment and tested their performances in 30 oceanic trench sediment samples. An in silico analysis showed that the V3–V4 hypervariable region was the most informative and representative for oceanic trench microbial groups. Compared with the 'universal' primers, 46 bacterial families were only detected by newly designed primer B344F/B749R, and eight archaeal families were only detected by the newly designed primer A306F/A713R which covered the one or two orders of magnitude more ASVs (amplicon sequence variants) (1,470,216) in the tested total 30 samples. Moreover, A306F/A713R had the largest number of observed ASVs suggesting its better performance in discovering more archaeal species which were easily ignored in universal primer-based experiments for oceanic trench sediments. The novel primers designed in this research could be a better option to access the unique microbial communities in extreme oceanic trench sediments. Adult neurogenesis is the ongoing generation of functional new neurons from neural progenitor cells (NPCs) in the mammalian brain. However, this process declines with aging, which is implicated in the recession of brain function and neurodegeneration. Understanding the mechanism of adult neurogenesis and stimulating neurogenesis will benefit the mitigation of neurodegenerative diseases. Autophagy, a highly conserved process of cellular degradation, is essential for maintaining cellular homeostasis and normal function. Whether and how autophagy affects adult neurogenesis remains poorly understood. In present study, we revealed a close connection between impaired autophagy and adult neurogenetic decline. Expression of autophagy-related genes and autophagic activity were significantly declined in the middle-adult subventricular/subgranular zone (SVZ/SGZ) homogenates and cultured NPCs, and inhibiting autophagy by siRNA interference resulted in impaired proliferation and differentiation of NPCs. Conversely, stimulating autophagy by rapamycin not only revitalized the viability of middle-adult NPCs, but also facilitated the neurogenesis in middle-adult SVZ/SGZ. More importantly, autophagic activation by rapamycin also ameliorated the olfactory sensitivity and cognitional capacities in middle-adult mice. Taken together, our results reveal that compromised autophagy is involved in the decline of adult neurogenesis, which could be reversed by autophagy activation. The rising prevalence of antibiotic resistance poses the greatest health threats. Antimicrobial peptides (AMPs) are regarded as the potentially effective therapy. To avoid current crisis of antibiotic resistance, a comprehensive understanding of AMP resistance is necessary before clinical application. In this study, the development of resistance to the anti-Gram-negative bacteria peptide N6NH2 (21 residues, β-sheet) was characterized in E. coli ATCC25922. Three N6NH2-resistant E. coli mutants with 32-fold increase in MIC were isolated by serially passaging bacterial lineages in progressively increasing concentrations of N6NH2 and we mainly focus on the phenotype of N6NH2-resistant bacteria different from sensitive bacteria. The results showed that the resistance mechanism was attributed to synergy effect of multiple mechanisms: (i) increase biofilm formation capacity (3 ~ 4-fold); (ii) weaken the affinity of lipopolysaccharide (LPS) with N6NH2 (3 ~ 8-fold); and (iii) change the cell membrane permeability and potential. Interestingly, a chimeric peptide-G6, also a N6NH2 analog, which keep the same antibacterial activity to both wild-type and resistant clones (MIC value: 16 μg/mL), could curb N6NH2-resistant mutants by stronger inhibition of biofilm formation, stronger affinity with LPS, and stronger membrane permeability and depolarization than that of N6NH2. China's Mars exploration mission has stimulated tremendous interest in planetary science exploration recently. To propose potential scientific research projects, this study presents a concept simulation for the measurement of Martian atmospheric winds using the Doppler Michelson interferometry technique. The simulation is based on the satellite instrument initially designed for the Dynamic Atmosphere Mars Observer (DYNAMO) project to measure vertical profiles of winds from the 1.27 μm airglow observations in the Martian atmosphere. A comprehensive DYNAMO measurement simulation forward model based on an orbit submodel, an atmospheric background field submodel, and an instrument submodel is developed using the Michelson equation. The simulated interferogram signal over the field of view (FOV) calculated by the forward model is associated with the filter transmittance function, column emission rate of airglow, wind velocity, temperature, and the Michelson phase. The agreement between the derived atmospheric signals from the simulated interferogram without altitude inversion and the input parameters used to initiate the forward model confirms the validity of the forward model. Mass customization (MC) is recognized as a new manufacturing paradigm for market competition, and several empirical studies have discussed elements of organizational structure that are conducive to MC. A previous study proposed a model of quality at source and identified cultural values that can be changed by cultural artifacts, such as the stop-the-line system and the Andon system. This paper explores the impacts of three groups of MC enabler variables (personalized design, modular design, and automated processes) on two internal dimensions of organizational culture (work cooperation and relationship harmony).This paper surveyed 160 samples across five manufacturing industries. The results confirm that the three MC enablers (personalized design, modular design, and automated processes) correlate positively with two internal dimensions of the organizational culture of Chinese manufacturers (work cooperation and relationship harmony). Of the two internal dimensions, work cooperation enhances organizational performance, while relationship harmony has no impact on organizational performance. Modular design, automated processes, and work cooperation are powerful tools in the implementation of MC and organizational performance. Personalized design and relationship harmony are useful in MC. However, these tools are intermediate and limited, and they do not contribute to the general performance of the entire organization. Thus, in terms of internal- and team-oriented cultural factors, work cooperation is more important than relationship harmony in the implementation of MC. There is an urgent need to explore new antimicrobial agents due to the looming threat of bacteria resistance. Bovine lactoferricin (LfcinB), as a multifunctional peptide, has the potential to be a new active drug in the future. In this study, it aims to investigate the effect of fatty acid conjugation on antimicrobial peptide activity and topical therapeutic efficacy in a mouse model infected with Staphylococcus hyicus. Both Lfcin4 and Lfcin5 were conjugated with the unsaturated fatty acid linoleic acid (18-C) at their N-terminus and modified by acylation at the C-terminus. The derived peptides of Lin-Lf4NH2 and Lin-Lf5NH2 showed better antibacterial activity (MICs of 3.27 to 6.64 μM) than their parent peptides (MICs of 1.83 to 59.57 μM). Lin-Lf4NH2 (63.2%, 5 min) and Lin-Lf5NH2 (35.8%, 5 min) could more rapidly penetrate bacterial membrane than Lf4NH2 (2.34%, 5 min) and Lf5NH2 (1.94%, 5 min), which further confirmed by the laser scanning confocal microscopy (LSCM). Electron microscopy observations showed Lin-Lf4NH2 and Lin-Lf5NH2 disrupted S. hyicus cell membranes and led to the leakage of contents. Furthermore, after treatment with Lin-Lf4NH2 and Lin-Lf5NH2, the abscess symptoms of mice were significantly alleviated; the recovery rate of abscesses scope of Lin-Lf4NH2 (73.25%) and Lin-Lf5NH2 (71.71%) were 38.8 and 37.9-fold higher than that of untreated group (1.89%), respectively, and superior to Lf4NH2 (46.87%) and Lf5NH2 (58.75%). They significantly reduced the bacterial load and the levels of the pro-inflammatory cytokines (TNF-α, IL-6, and IL-1β) and chemokine (MCP-1) in S. hyicus skin lesions. This study provides evidence that conjugation of a fatty acid to antimicrobial peptides can improve the activity and have potential for topical therapeutic of S. hyicus skin infections. Streptococcus dysgalactiae, considered one of the main pathogens that causes bovine mastitis, is a serious threat to humans and animals. However, the excessive use of antibiotics and the characteristic of S. dysgalactiae forming biofilms in mastitic teat canal have serious clinical implications. In this study, in vivo and in vitro multiple mechanisms of action of P2, a mutant of fungal defensin plectasin, against S. dysgalactiae were systematically and comprehensively investigated for the first time. P2 showed potent antibacterial activity against S. dysgalactiae (minimum inhibitory concentration, MIC = 0.23–0.46 μM) and rapid bactericidal action by 3.0 lg units reduction in 2–4 h. No resistant mutants appeared after 30-d serial passage of S. dysgalactiae in the presence of P2. The results of electron microscopy and flow cytometer showed that P2 induced membrane damage of S. dysgalactiae, causing the leakage of cellular content and eventually cell death. Besides, P2 effectively inhibited early biofilm formation, eradicated mature biofilms, and killed 99.9% persisters which were resistant to 100 × MIC vancomycin; and confocal laser scanning microscopy (CLSM) also revealed the potent antibacterial and antibiofilm activity of P2 (the thickness of biofilm reduced from 18.82 to 7.94 μm). The in vivo therapeutic effect of P2 in mouse mastitis model showed that it decreased the number of mammary bacteria and alleviated breast inflammation by regulating cytokines and inhibiting bacterial proliferation, which were superior to vancomycin. These data indicated that P2 maybe a potential candidate peptide for mastitis treatment of S. dysgalactiae infections. Introduction: The cardiovascular efficacy of glucagon-like peptide 1 receptor agonists (GLP-1RAs) in type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) are well documented; however, the differences in cardiovascular efficacy among subpopulations remain unknown. This systematic review and meta-analysis aimed to explore the differences in cardiovascular efficacy of long-acting GLP-1RAs among subpopulations of patients with T2DM and to assess the drug safety. Methods: Relevant studies up to March 31, 2020 were searched for in six electronic databases, namely PubMed, Cochrane Library, Embase, Clinical Trials, Science Direct, and Web of Science. The primary outcome was three-point major adverse cardiovascular events (including cardiovascular mortality, non-fatal myocardial infarction, and non-fatal stroke). Subpopulations were defined using ten selected influential factors, and the differences in cardiovascular efficacy in subpopulations stratified by different influential factors were accessed by synthesizing studies with random-effects models one by one. Results: A total of six cardiovascular outcome trials of long-acting GLP-1RAs, comprising 49,936 participants, were included. Among stratified subpopulations, no significant differences in the cardiovascular efficacy of long-acting GLP-1RAs were observed across the ten characteristics of subjects (all P for interaction > 0.05). Favorable trends were observed in the subpopulation with established cardiovascular disease (CVD) compared to that without (P = 0.171). With regards to safety, long-acting GLP-1RAs did not significantly increase the risk of retinopathy (OR 1.09; 95% CI 0.92–1.29; P = 0.316), but increase the risk of serious gastrointestinal events (OR 1.37; 95% CI 1.02–1.83; P = 0.037). Long-acting GLP-1RAs did not significantly increase the risk of serious adverse events (OR 0.92; 95% CI 0.85–1.00; P = 0.039). Conclusions: Our analysis suggested no subpopulation differences in the cardiovascular efficacy of long-acting GLP-1RAs among stratified subpopulations, and favorable trends were only observed in the subpopulation with established CVD. Staphylococcus aureus is a common pathogen that can cause clinical and subclinical endometritis in humans and animals. In this study, a designed CSαβ peptide ID13 from DLP4 exhibited high stable antibacterial activity in simulated gastric fluid (90.79%), serum (99.54%), and different pH buffers (> 99%) against S. aureus CVCC 546 and lower cytotoxicity (89.62% viability) than its parent peptide DLP4 (74.14% viability) toward mouse endometrial epithelial cells (MEECs). ID13 caused a depolarization of bacterial membrane and downregulation of the expression of genes involved in membrane potential maintenance and biofilm formation. The in vitro efficacy analysis of ID13 showed a synergistic effect with vancomycin, ampicillin, rifampin, and ciprofloxacin; intracellular antimicrobial activity against S. aureus CVCC 546 in MEECs; and the ability to inhibit lipoteichoic acid-induced pro-inflammatory cytokines from RAW 264.7. In the S. aureus-induced endometritis of mice, similar to vancomycin, ID13 remarkably alleviated pathological conditions, inhibited the production of cytokines (TNF-α, IL-1ß, IL-6, and IL-10), and suppressed the TLR2-NF-κB signal pathway. Collectively, these results suggest that ID13 could be a potential candidate peptide for therapeutic application in S. aureus-induced endometritis. Only a few studies have reported nontraumatic intracerebral hemorrhage in young patients notwithstanding its fatal and devastating characteristics. This study investigated the clinical characteristics and outcome of nontraumatic intracerebral hemorrhage in young patients in comparison to those of the elderly. A retrospective review of consecutive patients admitted at the department of neurosurgery of two tertiary care medical centers presenting with first-ever nontraumatic intracerebral hemorrhage was performed. We identified and compared the demographics, etiologies, risk factors, and laboratory, radiological, and clinical findings between elderly and young patients. Additionally, logistic regression analyses of independent prognostic factors associated with 1-month mortality and favorable functional outcome were performed. Altogether, 247 patients including 69 young patients and 178 elderly patients were enrolled. On multivariate analysis, young patients exhibited significantly more often an infratentorial hematoma location, excessive alcohol consumption, and high body mass index (BMI), but less frequent systemic hypertension. There was no statistical difference between the two groups in 1-month mortality (17.46% and 18.01% for young and elderly patients, respectively), but the favorable functional outcome based on modified Rankin scale score of 0 or 1 was significantly different between the two groups (favorable outcome in 51.79% and 29.93% of patients, respectively). Predictors of 1-month mortality was the presence of herniation in the young group, and lower Glasgow Coma Scale score, renal or heart disease, and leukocytosis (WBC > 10,000) in the elderly group. Lower National Institutes Health Stroke Scale score was associated with favorable functional outcome in both groups. Nontraumatic intracerebral hemorrhage in younger patients appears to be associated with excessive alcohol consumption and high BMI. Cobitis macrostigma, a small-sized benthic fish species, is an endemic species distributing in the middle and lower reaches of the Yangtze River. In this study, the complete mitochondrial genome of C. macrostigma was first sequenced and the phylogenetic relationship with its closely related species was estimated. It was 16,573 bp in length, consisting of 13 protein-coding genes (PCGs), 2 ribosomal RNAs, 22 tRNAs and a control region. The total base composition was A 29.6%, T 28.1%, C 25.7%, G 16.6%, with A + T content of 57.7%. This species shared the same gene composition and structural arrangement of mitogenome with other Cobitidae fish. Staphylococcus hyicus, considered as a leading pathogen of exudative epidermitis, is a serious threat to humans and animals. The emergency of bacterial resistance to antibiotics, especially in human and animal health fields, leads to an urgent need of exploration of new antimicrobial agents. In this study, NZX, a plectasin-derived peptide, was firstly expressed in Pichia pastoris X-33 and was purified by cation exchange chromatography, followed by detection of its antibacterial activity in vitro and in vivo. The results showed that the total secreted protein concentration in fermentation supernatant was up to 2820 mg/L (29 °C) after 120-h induction in a 5-L fermentor. The yield of NZX reached up to 965 mg/L with a purity of 92.6%. The recombinant expressed NZX had a strong antimicrobial activity, high stability, and low toxicity. The minimal inhibitory concentrations (MICs) of NZX and ceftriaxone (CRO) against Gram-positive bacteria were 0.46 to 0.91 μM and 6.04 to 12.09 μM, respectively. The time-killing curves showed that S. hyicus NCTC10350 was killed completely by 2× and 4 × MIC of NZX within 24 h. NZX also exhibited the intracellular activity against S. hyicus in Hacat cells. After treatment with NZX (10 mg/kg) and CRO (60 mg/kg), the survival rates of mice were 100% and 83.3%, respectively. NZX inhibited the bacterial translocation, downregulated pro-inflammatory cytokines (TNF-α/IL-1β/IL-6), upregulated the anti-inflammatory cytokine (IL-10), and ameliorated multiple-organ injuries (the liver, spleen, lung, and kidney). A two-dimensional lattice model consisting of truss elements was developed in this study to characterize the failure behavior under arbitrary loading and fracture behavior of wood. The characteristic of this model is to use the integral analytical procedure to determine the elastic stiffness and ultimate strengths of bonds based on energy and strength criteria, respectively, instead of using the trial-and-error method adopted by the current scholars in the field of timber. To prove the feasibility of the lattice model, the tension test, compression test, shear test, and off-axis test on Korean pine were carried out, and two types of fracture tests of Pinus pinaster were cited. The properties of the truss elements were determined from the basic mechanical parameters of wood. The simulated results from using the proposed lattice model were compared with the experimental data, and good agreements including deformation and stress–strain curves were observed. The lattice model in this paper can accurately simulate the failure and fracture behavior of heterogeneous wood, and this method can promote the use of lattice models in the wood mesoscopic and microscopic fields. Many timber structures around the world were built hundreds of years ago, and they are still standing after a long period of service with environmental erosion and damages caused by human activities. This is due to a combination of excellent form of construction, careful maintenance and outstanding physical properties of wood. How to evaluate the safety margin of wood, understand its working performance and evaluate the residual life duration accurately are the common problems with all structural engineers. This paper proposes a set of simplified models based on the widely used Gerhards cumulative damage model to intuitively describe the relationship between the stress level and life duration of wood under different load conditions. The scope of application of these models with existing experimental data sets was then analyzed. There is an urgent need to discover new active drugs to combat methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus, which is a serious threat to humans and animals and incompletely eliminated by antibiotics due to its intracellular accumulation in host cells, production of biofilms, and persisters. Fungal defensin-like peptides (DLPs) are emerging as a potential source of new antibacterial drugs due to their potent antibacterial activity. In this study, nine novel fungal DLPs were firstly identified by querying against UniProt databases and expressed in Pichia pastoris, and their antibacterial and anti-biofilm ability were tested against multidrug-resistant (MDR) S. aureus. Results showed that among them, P2, the highest activity and expression level, showed low toxicity, no resistance, and high stability. Minimal inhibitory concentrations (MICs) of P2 against Gram-positive bacteria were < 2 μg/mL. P2 exhibited the potent activity against intracellular MDR S. aureus (bacterial reduction in 80–97%) in RAW264.7 macrophages. P2 bound to/disrupted bacterial DNA, wrinkled outer membranes and permeabilized cytoplasmic membranes, but maintained the integrity of bacterial cells. P2 inhibited/eradicated the biofilm and killed 99% persister bacteria, which were resistant to 100× MIC vancomycin. P2 upregulated the anti-inflammatory cytokine (IL-10) and downregulated pro-inflammatory cytokines (TNF-α/IL-1β) and chemokine (MCP-1) levels in RAW 264.7 macrophages and in mice, respectively. Five milligram per kilogram P2 enhanced the survival of S. aureus-infected mice (100%), superior to vancomycin (30 mg/kg), inhibited the bacterial translocation, and alleviated multiple-organ injuries (liver, spleen, kidney, and lung). Many studies have indicated that structural strain will be significantly influenced by temperature variations, and a good understanding of the effect of temperature on structural strain is essential. A structural health monitoring system has been installed in a typical Tibetan timber building to measure the structural strains and ambient temperature since 2012. This paper presents the correlation between temperature and strain data from the monitored structure. A method combining singular spectrum analysis and polynomial regression is proposed for modeling the temperature induced strains in the structure. Singular spectrum analysis is applied to smooth the temperature data, and the correlation between the resulting temperature time series and the measured strains is obtained by polynomial regression. Parameters of the singular spectrum analysis and the regression model are selected to have the least regression error. Results show that the proposed method has both good reproduction and prediction capabilities for temperature induced strains, and that the method is accurate and effective for eliminating the effect of temperature from the measured strain. Marine actinomycetes are less investigated compared to terrestrial strains as potential sources of natural products. To date, few investigations have been performed on culturable actinomycetes associated with South China Sea sediments. In the present study, twenty-eight actinomycetes were recovered from South China Sea sediments after dereplication by traditional culture-dependent method. The 16S rRNA gene sequences analyses revealed that these strains related to five families and seven genera. Twelve representative strains possessed at least one of the biosynthetic genes coding for polyketide synthase I, II, and nonribosomal peptide synthetase. Four strains had anti-Mycobacterium phlei activities and five strains had activities against methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus. 10 L-scale fermentation of strains Salinispora sp. NHF45, Nocardiopsis sp. NHF48, and Streptomyces sp. NHF86 were carried out for novel and bioactive compounds discovery. Finally, we obtained a novel α-pyrone compound from marine Nocardiopsis sp. NHF48, an analogue of paulomenol from marine Streptomyces sp. NHF86 and a new source of rifamycin B, produced by Salinispora sp. NHF45. The present study concluded that marine actinomycetes, which we isolated from South China Sea sediments, will be a suitable source for the development of novel and bioactive compounds. Knowledge about factors that influence serum brain-derived neurotrophic factor (BDNF) concentrations during early pregnancy is lacking. The aim of the study is to examine the correlates of early pregnancy serum BDNF concentrations. A total of 982 women attending prenatal care clinics in Lima, Peru, were recruited in early pregnancy. Pearson's correlation coefficient was calculated to evaluate the relation between BDNF concentrations and continuous covariates. Analysis of variance and generalized linear models were used to compare the unadjusted and adjusted BDNF concentrations according to categorical variables. Multivariable linear regression models were applied to determine the factors that influence early pregnancy serum BDNF concentrations. In bivariate analysis, early pregnancy serum BDNF concentrations were positively associated with maternal age ( r = 0.16, P < 0.001) and early pregnancy body mass index (BMI) ( r = 0.17, P < 0.001), but inversely correlated with gestational age at sample collection ( r = −0.21, P < 0.001) and C-reactive protein (CRP) concentrations ( r = −0.07, P < 0.05). In the multivariable linear regression model, maternal age ( β = 0.11, P = 0.001), early pregnancy BMI ( β = 1.58, P < 0.001), gestational age at blood collection ( β = −0.33, P < 0.001), and serum CRP concentrations ( β = −0.57, P = 0.002) were significantly associated with early pregnancy serum BDNF concentrations. Participants with moderate antepartum depressive symptoms (Patient Health Questionnaire-9 (PHQ-9) score ≥ 10) had lower serum BDNF concentrations compared with participants with no/mild antepartum depressive symptoms (PHQ-9 score < 10). Maternal age, early pregnancy BMI, gestational age, and the presence of moderate antepartum depressive symptoms were statistically significantly associated with early pregnancy serum BDNF concentrations in low-income Peruvian women. A modified Iosipescu shear test method is proposed as an alternative for measuring the shear properties of clear wood. The method adopts four-point asymmetric loading procedure in the Iosipescu shear test but with the loading positions shifted to the neutral axis of the specimen. The original V-notched specimen is replaced by a combination of polyvinyl chloride blocks at two ends and a bow-tie-shaped wood specimen in the middle to provide a better stress pattern at failure. The measured shear strength and shear moduli are compared with results from compression test and off-axis tension test. Finite element analysis is also carried out to study the stress distribution in the wood specimen. Results show that the new shear test setup can provide close-to pure shear stress state in the specimen yielding better estimates of the shear properties of wood. The shear strength obtained by the new test setup is slightly lower than that from the off-axis tensile test which is probably due to the relatively thick specimen chosen in this study. Tibetan heritage buildings have a high historical and cultural value. They have endured adverse environmental loadings over hundreds of years without significant damage. However, there are few reports on their structural characteristics under normal environmental loadings and their behavior under dynamic loadings. In this research, a typical Tibetan wooden wall-frame building is selected to study its dynamic characteristics. Field measurements of the structure were conducted under environmental excitation to collect acceleration responses. The stochastic subspace identification (SSI) method was adopted to calculate the structural modal parameters and obtain the out-of-plane vibration characteristics of the slab and frames. The results indicated that the wall-frame structure had a lower out-of-plane stiffness and greater in-plane stiffness due to the presence of stone walls. Due to poor identified damping ratio estimates from the SSI method, a method based on the variance upper bound was proposed to complement the existing variance lower bound method for estimating the modal damping ratio to address the significant damping variability obtained from different points and measurements. The feasibility of the proposed method was illustrated with the measured data from the floor slab of the structure. There is accumulating evidence for the role of brain-derived neurotrophic factor (BDNF) in the pathophysiology of depression. However, the role of BDNF in the pathophysiology of post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) remains controversial, and no study has assessed BDNF concentrations among pregnant women with PTSD. We examined early-pregnancy BDNF concentrations among women with PTSD with and without depression. A total of 2928 women attending prenatal care clinics in Lima, Peru, were recruited. Antepartum PTSD and depression were evaluated using PTSD Checklist-Civilian Version (PCL-C) and Patient Health Questionnaire-9 (PHQ-9) scales, respectively. BDNF concentrations were measured in a subset of the cohort ( N = 944) using a competitive enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA). Logistic regression procedures were used to estimate odds ratios (OR) and 95 % confidence intervals (95 % CI). Antepartum PTSD (37.4 %) and depression (27.6 %) were prevalent in this cohort of low-income pregnant Peruvian women. Approximately 19.9 % of participants had comorbid PTSD-depression. Median serum BDNF concentrations were lower among women with comorbid PTSD-depression as compared with women without either condition (median [interquartile range], 20.44 [16.97-24.30] vs. 21.35 [17.33-26.01] ng/ml; P = 0.06). Compared to the referent group (those without PTSD and depression), women with comorbid PTSD-depression were 1.52-fold more likely to have low (<25.38 ng/ml) BDNF concentrations (OR = 1.52; 95 % CI 1.00-2.31). We observed no evidence of reduced BDNF concentrations among women with isolated PTSD. BDNF concentrations in early pregnancy were only minimally and non-significantly reduced among women with antepartum PTSD. The ionospheric mid-latitude trough minimum position as a function of geomagnetic storm time is identified and investigated statistically in terms of the category and the intensity of storms. The data of ion density derived from DMSP and DEMETER satellites were used to extract the trough position. The variations of mid-latitude trough in 41 moderate magnetic storms and 88 intense magnetic storms in the 23rd solar cycle were studied. The results show that the trough moves toward the equator as Dst index decreases and toward the pole as Dst index increases. Compared with the ICME, MC and CIR storms, in sheath storms the trough shifts to lower latitude at the end of the main phase, although the average storm intensity is weak. During the storm recovery phase, the rapid recovery of the trough position can be seen at the start of the recovery phase for moderate CIR storms. We also calculated the correlation between the minimum latitude of the trough position and the storm magnitude as well as other related main phase parameters during all storms. We found that the minimum latitude of the trough position exhibits a strong correlation with the storm magnitude during magnetic storms. Using the mutual conversion between electric energy and magnetic energy, we designed and built an experimental device based on the o-core transformer structure for extraction of garlic polysaccharides. That is, an acidic solvent acted as the secondary coil conductor under the action of alternating magnetic flux and then induced an electric field in the biochemical medium (the sample and extractant) at 20-60 kHz. The polysaccharide yield improved, in comparison to the conventional heating method, when the excitation voltage applied on the primary coil was increased. Low pH helps to improve the polysaccharide yield due to the enhancement of the ionic conduction resulting from the induced electric field. However, the polysaccharide yield decreases with the increase of partial frequency due to the resulting decrease in the input power of the system. The orthogonal experiments showed that the excitation voltage, frequency, pH, and temperature all significantly affected the polysaccharide yield. The garlic polysaccharide extracted by using the induced electric field method had a DPPH radical scavenging ability and a ferric-reducing power. This novel system is a potential alternative for the extraction of garlic polysaccharides without the use of powered electrodes inserted into solutions, unlike other electric-field-assisted techniques. Using the observations of the 630-nm all-sky imagers (ASIs) located in the geomagnetic conjugate points in the American sector from 2014 to 2017, this study statistically analyzed the features of conjugate equatorial plasma bubbles (EPBs), including their occurrence rate, zonal width, location and zonal drift velocity. The results show that the occurrence rate of the EPBs that occur simultaneously at geomagnetic conjugate points is ∼84%. The zonal widths of the EPBs are mainly ∼100 km, and the width differences of EPBs between the northern and southern hemispheres are mainly within ±30 km. The zonal displacements of the center locations of the northern and southern EPBs are within ±50 km. The zonal drift velocities of the northern and southern EPBs are nearly equal. However, it should be noted that the velocity of the EPBs in the northern hemisphere is 10% faster than that in the southern hemisphere. The results suggest that conjugate EPBs are common. Moreover, the non-conjugate EPBs in the northern and southern hemisphere can occur occasionally, which is probably associated with the different ionospheric backgrounds between the two hemispheres. Fault signals measured from a damaged rolling bearing usually exhibit amplitude modulation (AM)-frequency modulation (FM) properties. For this kind of signal, the demodulation technique is an effective and common method. In the demodulation techniques, a variety of energy operator (EO) tools have been available due to high computational efficiency and self-adaptability to transient signals. Hence, an alternative energy measure is proposed in this work. The new demodulation technique is achieved by combining a multiresolution higher-order symmetric difference sequence with the envelope-derivative operator (EDO). The multiresolution higher-order symmetric envelope-derivative operator (MHOS-EDO) can extract the weak bearing fault characteristics in a harsh environment without any pre-filtering. Especially in the presence of vibration interferences, its unique energy transformation can eliminate the influence of vibration interferences, so that the vibration interferences will no longer appear in the energy spectrum. Through simulation and practical experiments, the superiority of MHOS-EDO in dealing with noise and interfering components is demonstrated. A Gram-negative, rod shaped and non-spore-forming bacterium, strain H642, was isolated from a desert sample collected from Xinjiang province of China, and subjected to a polyphasic taxonomic investigation. Strain H642 grew between 20 and 40 °C (optimal 28-37 °C), pH 6.0-10.0 (optimal 7.0-9.0) and at NaCl concentrations between 1.0 and 20.0 % (optimal 2.0-8.0 %). It was positive for catalase, but negative for oxidase. Ubiquinone-10 was present as the major respiratory ubiquinone. The major polar lipids were diphosphatidylglycerol, phosphatidylglycerol, four unknown glycolipids and one unknown lipid. Phylogenetic analysis of the 16S rRNA gene sequence revealed that strain H642 belongs to the genus Pelagibacterium. Strain H642 was most closely related to Pelagibacterium halotolerans (with 98.4 % similarity), Pelagibacterium nitratireducens (97.3 %) and Pelagibacterium luteolum (96.2 %). DNA-DNA reassociation values between strain H642, P. halotolerans B2 and P. nitratireducens JLT2005 were 38.0 and 25.3 %, respectively. The genomic DNA G + C content of strain H642 was determined to be 44.4 mol%. Based on genotypic, chemotaxonomic and phenotypic data, strain H642 represents a novel species of the genus Pelagibacterium, for which the name Pelagibacterium lixinzhangensis sp. nov is proposed. This study investigated the effects of resveratrol (RSV) on retinal functions, glutamate transporters (GLAST) and glutamine synthetase (GS) expression in diabetic rats retina, and on glutamate uptake, GS activity, GLAST and GS expression in high glucose-cultured Müller cells. The electroretinogram was used to evaluate retinal functions. Müller cells cultures were prepared from 5- to 7-day-old Sprague-Dawley rats. The expression of GLAST and GS was examined by qRT-PCR, ELISA and western-blotting. Glutamate uptake was measured as H-glutamate contents of the lysates. GS activity was assessed by a spectrophotometric assay. 1- to 7-month RSV administrations (5 and 10 mg/kg/day) significantly alleviated hyperglycemia and weight loss in diabetic rats. RSV administrations also significantly attenuated diabetes-induced decreases in amplitude of a-wave in rod response, decreases in amplitude of a-, and b-wave in cone and rod response and decreases in amplitude of OP2 in oscillatory potentials. 1- to 7-month RSV treatments also significantly inhibited diabetes-induced delay in OP2 implicit times in scotopic 3.0 OPS test. The down-regulated mRNA and protein expression of GLAST and GS in diabetic rats retina was prevented by RSV administrations. In high glucose-treated cultures, Müller cells' glutamate uptake, GS activity, GLAST and GS expression were decreased significantly compared with normal control cultures. RSV (10, 20, and 30 mmol/l) significantly inhibited the HG-induced decreases in glutamate uptake, GS activity, GLAST and GS expression (at least P < 0.05). The combination of a rotating perpendicular magnetic field with the flowing saline solution was applied to the salting of garlic bulbs, aimed at accelerating the salt uptake of samples. The influences of Reynolds number of saline solution, magnetic flux density, and rotating frequency of magnetic field, as well as temperature on the salt content in pickled garlic bulbs, were analyzed. The magnetic flux density and temperature positively affected the salt content. Although higher Reynolds number and rotating frequency could accelerate the salt uptake of garlic samples, decreases in salt content were also observed at excessively high Reynolds numbers and rotating frequencies. Neither the flowing saline solution treatment alone nor the magnetic field alone contributed to the salt diffusion into garlic tissues. This research provides an alternative methodology for brining porous food materials under the action of a rotating perpendicular magnetic field combined with flowing saline solution. Acid protease is widely used in industries such as food processing and feed additives. In the study, low frequency magnetic field (LF-MF) as an aid enhances acid protease production by Aspergillus niger (A. niger). The study assessed mycelial biomass, the enzymic activity of the acidic protease and underlying mechanism. At low intensities, alternating magnetic field (AMF) is more effective than static magnetic fields (SMF). Under optimal magnetic field conditions, acid protease activity and biomass increased by 91.44% and 16.31%, as compared with the control, respectively. Maximum 19.87% increase in enzyme activity after magnetic field treatment of crude enzyme solution in control group. Transcriptomics analyses showed that low frequency alternating magnetic field (LF-AMF) treatment significantly upregulated genes related to hydrolases and cell growth. Our results showed that low-frequency magnetic fields can enhance the acid protease production ability of A. niger, and the effect of AMF is better at low intensities. Key message: Our results show that methyl jasmonate induces plasma membrane H -ATPase activity and subsequently influences the apoplastic pH of trichoblasts to maintain a cell wall pH environment appropriate for root hair development. Abstract: Root hairs, which arise from root epidermal cells, are tubular structures that increase the efficiency of water absorption and nutrient uptake. Plant hormones are critical regulators of root hair development. In this study, we investigated the regulatory role of the plasma membrane (PM) H-ATPase in methyl jasmonate (MeJA)-induced root hair formation. We found that MeJA had a pronounced effect on the promotion of root hair formation in lettuce seedlings, but that this effect was blocked by the PM H-ATPase inhibitor vanadate. Furthermore, MeJA treatment increased PM H-ATPase activity in parallel with H efflux from the root tips of lettuce seedlings and rhizosphere acidification. Our results also showed that MeJA-induced root hair formation was accompanied by hydrogen peroxide accumulation. The apoplastic acidification acted in concert with reactive oxygen species to modulate root hair formation. Salt content and soluble solid content are important test indicators of quality in pickled products according to commercial standards. Pickled cucumber contains many organic compounds and free ions, and its juice, acting as the secondary coil under alternating magnetic flux, shows specific electrical characteristics during pickling. This study applied a detection system based on the o-core transformer to determine the NaCl content ( N) and soluble solid content ( SSC) of pickled cucumber in the extreme low-frequency range of 50 to 400 Hz at room temperature. It is interesting to note that the changes in electrical properties during pickling resulted in impedance changes in the coils of cucumber juice. Results showed that the terminal voltage ( U) in the secondary circuit was positively correlated with NaCl content and SSC, due to the increase of conductivity in the coil. The inductive current was the ratio of the inductive voltage to the total impedance in the secondary circuit, which increased according to Ohm's law, resulting in an increase of terminal voltages ( U) related to the physicochemical properties of the samples, particularly the amount of free ions. The λ value was found to be more effective than U in evaluating the NaCl content ( N), while the most effective regression model for predicting SSC was obtained at a primary voltage of 30 V and a frequency of 120 Hz based on U value. Wound healing is a complicated process that can be susceptible toward infection caused by bacteria. The surging drug resistance has become one of the biggest challenges to the treatment of these infections in public health. Herein, a new asymmetrical aza-boron-dipyrromethene (ABDP) probe is prepared and encapsulated with cholesterol-modified polyethylene glycol polymer (Chol-PEG 2000-NH 2) to construct a PTT/PDT dual-modality antibacterial agent (the ABDP NPs) and provide a new material for the treatment of MRSA-based infections. The ABDP NPs show remarkable wide UV–Vis absorption at 300–850 nm and superior bactericidal effects against Staphylococcus aureus (S. aureus), Escherichia coli (E. coli), and Methicillin-resistant S. aureus (MRSA), which can be controlled by a phototheranostic antibacterial switch (808 nm laser). Histological analysis indicates that wounds treated by the ABDP NPs plus NIR laser irradiation exhibit more complete re-epithelialization, abundant collagen fibers, and higher hair follicle numbers than the vancomycin-treated group. Background: Problems that the risk of using antiplatelet/anticoagulant may overwhelm its benefits have been raised. We analyzed patients with spontaneous intracerebral hemorrhage who had received antiplatelet/anticoagulant therapy. Method: A consecutive series of patients with spontaneous intracerebral hemorrhage who underwent brain computed tomographic (CT) scans within 48 h from attack. We analyzed the clinical manifestations and radiologic findings of the patients according to antiplatelet/anticoagulant therapy: Antiplatelet group, Anticoagulant group, and None group. Results: A total of 338 patients were included in the study. The initial volume of hematoma was 46.8 ml in the Anticoagulant group, and 24.1 ml in the None group. There were significant differences among the groups in terms of intraventricular hemorrhage (Antiplatelet group: 45.6 %, Anticoagulant group: 20 %, None: 26.4 %, p = 0.008), and the proportion of hydrocephalus in the Antiplatelet group was higher than in another group ( p = 0.017). Also, herniation and expansion of spontaneous intracerebral hemorrhage had significant differences among the groups. The prognoses of the None group were the best among the groups. There was also significant difference in the mortality among the groups. Conclusions: In comparison with the None group, the spontaneous intracerebral hemorrhages of the Antiplatelet/Anticoagulant group were a little more extensive and they had more intraventricular hemorrhage, hydrocephalus, herniation, and expansion of spontaneous intracerebral hemorrhage that would come to poor prognosis. Proteins with internal repeats (Pir) in the Baker's yeast are located on the cell wall and include four highly homologous members. Recently, Pir proteins have become increasingly used as anchor proteins in yeast cell surface display systems. These display systems are classified into three types: N-terminal fusion, C-terminal fusion, and inserted fusion. In addition to the GPI (glycosylphosphatidyl inositol) and the FL/FS anchor proteins, these three Pir-based systems significantly increase the choices for target proteins to be displayed. Furthermore, Pir proteins can also be used as a fusion partner for target proteins to be effectively secreted into culture medium. Confronted with high variety and low volume market demands, many companies, especially the Japanese electronics manufacturing companies, have reconfigured their conveyor assembly lines and adopted seru production systems. Seru production system is a new type of work-cell-based manufacturing system. A lot of successful practices and experience show that seru production system can gain considerable flexibility of job shop and high efficiency of conveyor assembly line. In implementing seru production, the multi-skilled worker is the most important precondition, and some issues about multi-skilled workers are central and foremost. In this paper, we investigate the training and assignment problem of workers when a conveyor assembly line is entirely reconfigured into several serus. We formulate a mathematical model with double objectives which aim to minimize the total training cost and to balance the total processing times among multi-skilled workers in each seru. To obtain the satisfied task-to-worker training plan and worker-to- seru assignment plan, a three-stage heuristic algorithm with nine steps is developed to solve this mathematical model. Then, several computational cases are taken and computed by MATLAB programming. With the opening of ancient Tibetan structures to visitors worldwide, human load has become the principal live load on these structures. This project studies the properties of the floor structure of an ancient Tibetan building and its behavior under human-induced load effects. Tests were conducted with static and dynamic crowd load, including stepping and jogging by people at a fixed position. The tests show that the floor structure does not behave as a continuous slab. It takes the load from local areas with minimal load transference properties. The acceleration response shows significant peaks when the footstep frequency is close to the natural frequency of the structure, but the human jogging excitation frequency does not have any obvious effect on the structural response. The elastic modulus of the Agatu material is estimated to be close to zero from the measured natural frequency of the slab. The Agatu material is concluded to be a discrete compacted material with insignificant contribution to the structural rigidity of the floor slab. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

To test the dose effect of ammonium (NH) fertilization on soil methane (CH) oxidation by methanotrophic communities, batch incubations were conducted at a wide scale of NH amendments: 0, 100, 250, 500, and 1,000 mg N kg. Denaturing gradient gel electrophoresis and real-time quantitative PCR analysis were conducted to investigate the correlation between the CH oxidation capacity and methanotrophic communities. Immediately after the addition of NH, temporal inhibition of CH oxidation occurred, and this might have been due to the non-specific salt effect (osmotic stress). After a lag phase, the CH oxidation rates of the soils with NH fertilization were promoted to levels higher than those of the controls. More than 100 mg N kg of NH addition resulted in the reduction of type II/type I MOB ratios and an obvious evolution of type II MOB communities, while less than 100 mg N kg of NH addition induced nearly no change of methanotrophic community compositions. The NH-derived stimulation after the lag phase was attributed to the improvement of N availability for type I MOB. Compared with the controls, 100 mg N kg of NH addition doubled the CH oxidation peak value to more than 20 mg CH kg h. Therefore, an appropriate amount of leachate irrigation on the landfill cover layer might efficiently mitigate the CH emissions. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
