This work aims to analyze the relationship between meteorological conditions and the occurrence of hospital admissions for pneumonia in children under 5 years of age in the Metropolitan Region of Porto Alegre, Brazil, from 1998 to 2017. To this end, data from hospital admissions obtained from the Unified Health System database (DATASUS) were used and classified into two groups: acute respiratory infections (ARI) and asthma, according to the international classification of diseases, tenth edition (ICD-10). Data regarding meteorological variables were also used: temperature, relative humidity, atmospheric pressure and wind speed, at 12Z and 18Z, as well as the Thermal Comfort Index (TCI), Effective Temperature as a function of the wind (ETw) and Windchill (W). From the data obtained, a descriptive analysis of the diseases and a statistical analysis with the analysis of correlation and main components were performed. Results showed that pneumonia (catalogued in the ICD-10 as J12 to J18) was the main cause of hospitalizations in children. The annual, monthly and daily hospitalization frequency distributions showed higher rates of admissions occurring in the months of May to September. The peaks of admissions and high admissions (HA) occurred mainly in the winter months (June, July and August), and in 1998. Meanwhile, the correlation and principal component analysis showed an increase in hospital admissions due to pneumonia related to a decrease in temperature and ETw and W indices (negative anomalies) and an increase in atmospheric pressure and relative humidity (positive anomalies). Aligned with approach of transformative research, the research aimed to identify and discuss meanings attributed to urban mobility and assistive technology products that can provide it. Empirical research included two stages: participant observation in eight Brazilian cities and visit the largest exhibition of assistive technology in Brazil. The research brings apparently uncommon results in the literature with a focus on disabled consumers: the perception that assistive technology products can be made sacred by consumers; and the realization that, for some organizations sell assistive technology products becomes secondary to the guideline of building an identity related to corporate citizenship. The present study has the objective of researching how consumers in this segment react when dissatisfied. For this, the projective technique of thematic stories was used to collect the data. Two perspectives on how these consumers react when dissatisfied where perceived. The first, illustrates a passive behavior of how to resolve consumption problems, which, in general, means not complaining and conforming to the loss. The second, differently, illustrates a reaction against the dissatisfaction, expressed by complaining or, even, adopting legal action. Differently from what the literature points to, the present study shows that low income consumers do complain when dissatisfied, since they know, at least in discourse, their consumer rights. Companies should recognize the distinct reactions of low income consumers when dissatisfied. The case shows the difficulties faced by a social business to become financially viable. Talita Peixoto is an African-Brazilian woman enterprising for the first time. Together with her husband, she created Clubinho Preto, a Brazilian subscription club for children that delivered boxes with books, clothing, and accessories to educate children in a positive Afrocentric culture. After two years, they are struggling financially. Looking for alternatives, Talita planned to expand her business by adding schools as clients. Her business partners opposed the idea, believing that not every manager would truly commit to the racial cause. Talita needed the money, but not at any cost. How can she transform her purpose into a product? To answer this question, it is necessary to align purpose, value creation, and a business model. This case can be taught in executive training programs and undergraduate classes on marketing and consumer behavior, social entrepreneurship, and business purposes.
