Bis-pyrene derivative 1, bearing two pyrene and pyridine groups, was synthesized as a ratiometric fluorescent chemosensor for Ag+ in aqueous solution. Fluorescent chemosensor 1 displayed a selective ratiometric change with Ag+, which was attributed to the excimer-monomer emissions of pyrenes. A simple colorimetric fluorescent chemosensor 1-[5-(2-chloro-6-methylquinolin-3-yl)-3-(2-hydroxyphenyl)-4,5-dihydro- 1H -pyrazol-1-yl]ethan-1-one ( L ) based on pyrazoline has been designed, synthesized and characterized. The sensing properties of L were studied using UV–visible and fluorescence spectrophotometric analyses. L showed excellent selectivity towards Zn 2+ ions over other metal ions in aqueous media through “OFF-ON” type process and a possible photoinduced electron transfer (PET). The thiazole based Schiff base 2-hydroxy-1-naphthaldehyde-2-amino thiazole (receptor1) was synthesized through a single step process and characterized by spectroscopic and analytical techniques. The cation detecting ability of the receptor1 was explored by fluorescent spectroscopic methods. The receptor1 has recognized Al3+ ions by a turn-on process over a panel of other potentially competing metal ions. The binding constant of receptor1 with Al3+ was found to be 8.27 × 103 M−1. Computational studies Density Functional Theory (DFT) and Time-dependent Density Functional Theory (TD-DFT) were performed to provide detailed information on electronic states and photophysical property of receptor1 and receptor1-Al3+ ions. A Schiff-base molecule, pyrene motif chemosensor 1 has been synthesized and performed for the fluorescent detection of Cu 2+ ions via the inhibition of the photoinduced electron transfer (PET) process. Results were observed the exceptional selectivity towards Cu 2+ in DMSO-H 2 O, (1:1 v/v, HEPES = 50 mM, pH = 7.4) and the association constant (K a ) for chemosensor 1 was binding to Cu 2+ system have a value of 1.16 × 10 4 M −1 . In addition, the chemosensor 1 has been used as a fluorescence probe for detecting Cu 2+ ions in living cells and its binding phenomenon abilities were confirmed by bio-imaging and spectroscopic methods. The utility of carbon materials for electrochemical energy storage devices has been rapidly increasing in the recent years. In this study, graphdiyne nanostructures have been prepared via a cross-coupling reaction and their electrochemical properties were investigated for supercapacitor applications. Spectroscopic studies such as X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy and Raman analysis confirmed the formation of graphdiyne with high order and low defects. Cyclic voltammetric studies revealed the quasi-rectangular profiles suggesting the presence of electrochemical double layer and Faradaic capacitance in graphdiyne. The graphdiyne electrode delivered a specific capacitance of about 71.4 F/g from the galvanostatic charge–discharge analysis measured at a constant discharge current density of 3.5 A/g. Moreover, the cyclic stability tests demonstrated excellent capacitance retention of about 97% for the graphdiyne electrode.
