In this study, the basic features of the agricultural structure in Gemlik, Gönen and Manyas in the mid-19th century are examined based on Ottoman archival documents. Based on the tithe collection data of these three districts, it was determined what kind of products were grown and also the total production figures were tried to be estimated by multiplying the tax amounts by ten. In the article, a brief analysis is made on the structure of the population in three districts, since it is a decisive factor that directly affects the amount of agricultural production. According to the data of the mid-nineteenth century, it is understood that a population of 12.000 lived in Gemlik, 7.700 in Gönen and 3.700 in Manyas. There was also a large non-Muslim population in Gemlik consisting of Rum and Armenians. A small number of Rum populations lived in Gonen and Manyas. Gemlik was prominent in viticulture, olive and fruit production because of its land structure. Cereal production was higher in Gönen and Manyas. The central government demanded products such as wheat, barley, olives, timber, forest products, sedge, grapes and fresh fruit from these three districts in order to meet the needs of both the army and the people of Istanbul, especially since the end of the eighteenth century due to the aggravated provisioning problems. The exceptional circumstances surrounding the COVID-19 closures of campuses and emergency online learning have caused challenging circumstances on preserving academic integrity. Still, little is known about how the interplay between diverse contextual and psychological determinants influences beliefs and inclinations to plagiarism during online learning. The current study aims to understand better multiple factors that predict attitudes and intentions to commit plagiarism during and after the pandemic. To that end, an extended model based on the theory of planned behavior (TPB) that examines the impact of socio-psychological, emotional, motivational, and ethical factors explaining plagiarism intentions was tested. The study applied a survey instrument to a sample of 435 undergraduate students from three universities in Oman. Using the Partial Least Squares-Structural Equation Modeling (PLS-SEM), the results showed that fear of COVID-19 significantly and positively impacted the plagiarism attitude. Academic self-efficacy significantly and negatively influenced attitudes to plagiarism. All TPB variables significantly influenced intention to plagiarize, including subjective norms, attitudes perceived behavioral control and past behavior, except moral obligation. The current study's findings contributed to theory advancement by extending TPB to examining antecedents to subjective norms toward plagiarism and emotional and motivational determinants of attitudes. Heel spur is an osteophytic protrusion larger than 2 mm that lies just anterior to the tuberosity of the calcaneus. Heel spur can be of two types: plantar heel spur and dorsal heel spur. The aim of this study was to evaluate the relationship between the heel spurs incidence with age, sex and side. A total of 2000 bilateral radiographs of 1000 patients (518 men and 482 women) aged 20-93 years who applied to Terme state hospital, Samsun, Turkey due to trauma were examined. Patients were grouped into 10 year age ranges (20-29 years; 30-39 years; 40-49 years; 50-59 years; 60-69 years and over 70 years). The incidences of plantar heel spur, dorsal heel spur, and both were evaluated according to age, sex and side relations. Plantar or dorsal heel spurs were detected in 32.6 % (326 patients) of the patients. The incidences of plantar heel spur, dorsal heel spur, plantar and dorsal heel spur were 26.0 %, 16.9 %, and 10.3 % respectively. According to sex, the incidence of plantar heel spur was higher in women in all age groups. Although the incidence of dorsal heel spur was higher in men in the 6th decade, it was more common in women in other age groups. The incidence of plantar heel spur was 2.615 times higher in the right foot and 2.810 times higher in the left foot in women. As the age increased, the risk of plantar heel spur increased 1.060 times in the right foot and 1.061 times in the left foot. The incidence of dorsal heel spur was 1.510 times higher in the right foot and 1.715 times higher in the left foot in women. Educational social network sites have many uses in the field of education. The present paper aims to determine factors influencing students' behavioral intention to use a popular educational social network site, Edmodo. Using an extension of the technology acceptance model, we analyzed quantitative responses of 218 university students, registered in an Edmodo supported course. Data were analyzed through partial least squares structural equation modeling. Results highlighted that intention was significantly predicted by its antecedents. More specifically, the attitude was the most important factor, whilst perceived usefulness had a moderate impact on predicting intention. Perceived ease of use predicted perceived usefulness directly and also it influenced intention indirectly through attitude. External antecedents of perceived usefulness and perceived ease of use were all significant. Discussion and implications were drawn based on the results. Abstract Intensive use of media and technology has explicitly affected and changed our study habits. This cross-sectional survey study aimed to discover what kind of relationship exists between media and technology use and academic performance. The study also explored how multitasking and self-regulation influence this effect after controlling for their gender, age, and year of study. With this aim, data were collected from 631 university students on a voluntary basis and analyzed through both descriptive and inferential statistics. Findings of Pearson correlation indicated that students' academic performances has a weak significant negative association both with multitasking preferences and media and technology usage, but not with control of self-regulation. Hierarchical multiple linear regression analyses revealed that demographic variables including gender, age, and year of study were significant predictors of students' academic performances. Additionally, after controlling these particular demographics, only media and technology usage significantly and negatively contributed to the prediction of students' academic performance, whereas multitasking and control of self-regulation did not. Implications were discussed based on the results. The current study aims to examine the influence of incorporating different emotional design approaches into multimedia on 7th grade middle school students’ positive emotions, mental effort investments and learning achievements (recall and transfer). To this end, four different instructional materials were created. Each material was identical, with only the extent of emotional design differing. For the Neutral Design (ND) group, none of the emotional design principles were used (monochromatic grayscale). For the Colorful Design (CD) group, attention-grabbing, bright and saturated colors were added to the material. For the Anthropomorphic Design (AD) group, expressive facial expressions (anthropomorphism of lifeless objects and expressive facial expressions of human characters) were incorporated into the material. Finally, for the Anthropomorphic Design and Sound Effects (ADSE) group, interesting sound effects were also used. The study was conducted at a middle school with a group of 106 students. Positive emotions were measured using an emWave emotion detection device. Results revealed that positive emotions generally increased as the amount of emotional design features increased. However, while students who used the Colorful Design invested more mental effort compared to students who used the Neutral Design, students who used the Anthropomorphic Design and Sound Effects (ADSE) invested less mental effort compared to students who used the Colorful Design. In addition, students who used the Colorful Design outperformed students who used the Neutral Design in terms of their recall scores. No significant difference in terms of transfer of learning scores was observed across the groups. Objective: The combination of electrical phenomena and remote myocardial ischemia is the pathophysiological mechanism of ST segment changes in inferior leads in acute anterior myocardial infarction (MI). We investigated the prognostic value of ST segment changes in inferior derivations in patients with first acute anterior MI treated with primary percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI). Methods: In this prospective single-center analysis, we evaluated the prognostic impact of ST segment changes in inferior derivations on 354 patients with acute anterior MI. Patients were divided into the following 3 groups according to admission ST segment changes in inferior derivations: ST depression (group 1), no ST change (group 2), and ST elevation (group 3). Results: Inhospital multivariate analysis revealed notably high rates of in-hospital death for patients in group 3 compared to patients in group 2 (OR 2.5; 95% CI 1.6-7.6, p < 0.001). Group 1 and group 2 had similar in-hospital and long-term mortality rates. After adjusting for confounding baseline variables, group 3 had higher rates of 18-month mortality (HR 3.3; 95% CI 1.5-8.2, p < 0.001). Conclusion: In patients with a first acute anterior MI treated with primary PCI, ST elevation in inferior leads had significantly worse short-term and longterm outcomes compared to no ST change or ST segment depression. Abstract: Objective: The aim of the study was to describe the average values of the nasal anthropometric measurements in young Turkish male population. Methods: Study group consisted of 108 volunteer young Turkish males whose age were 18–30 years (mean age 22.31 year). All subjects were students in Yasar Dogu School of Physical Education and Sport of University of Ondokuz Mayis. Results: The means total length and nasal bridge length of the nose were 56.92 and 55.26mm, respectively. The means of the nasal bridge width and morphologic nose width were 29.74 and 33.63mm, respectively. The mean width of the anatomic nose was 23.14mm. The mean width of the nostril floor was 11.00mm. The means length and width of the ala were 19.93 and 4.81mm, respectively. The means of length and width of the columella were 9.34 and 5.34mm, respectively. The mean frontonasal angle was 134.96° and the mean nasolabial angle was 90.32°. Conclusion: The nose was the dominant feature in the facial region. Anthropometric measurements related with the nose measured were compared with the available literature. Average values of the nose in this population may be used as a landmark for guidance to plan corrective surgery of the nose. [Copyright &y& Elsevier]

Plagiarism has received considerable attention over the past two decades. Exploring the predictors of this type of academic misconduct can support stakeholders when confronting and managing the incidents of plagiarism. Using an extension of the Theory of Planned Behavior (TPB) framework, this study aims to understand the antecedents of plagiarism. In the study, the influence of new variables such as moral obligation and past behavior were tested along with more familiar TPB constructs. Moreover, the variable of perceived behavioral control was substituted with the Information and Communication Technologies (ICT) literacy variable, which is measured using Internet, computer and information literacy. Adopting a cross-sectional survey design, the data were collected from 588 university students and analyzed using partial least squares structural equation modeling. The results demonstrated that attitude, information literacy, moral obligation and past behavior were significant predictors of behavior intention to engage in plagiarism, whilst subjective norms, Internet literacy and computer literacy were not. The study concluded that the most appropriate way to combat plagiarism is through pedagogy. Background: ST-segment elevation myocardial infarction (STEMI) complicated with cardiogenic shock (CS) remains as an unresolved condition causing high morbidity and mortality despite advances in medical treatment and coronary intervention procedures. In the current study, we evaluated the predictors of in-hospital mortality of STEMI complicated with CS.Methods: In this retrospective study, we evaluated the predictive value of baseline characteristics, angiographic, echocardiographic and laboratory parameters on in-hospital mortality of 319 patients with STEMI complicated with CS who were treated with primary percutaneous coronary intervention. Patients were divided into two groups consisting of survivors and non-survivors during their index hospitalisation period.Results: The mortality rate was found to be 61.3% in the study population. At multivariate analysis after adjustment for the parameters detected in univariate analysis, chronic renal failure, Thrombolysis In Myocardial Infarction (TIMI) post percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI) ≤2, plasma glucose and lactate level, blood urea nitrogen level, Tricuspid Annular Plane Systolic Excursion (TAPSE) and ejection fraction were independent predictors of in-hospital mortality.Conclusions: Apart from haemodynamic deterioration, angiographic, echocardiographic and laboratory parameters have an impact on in-hospital mortality in patients with STEMI complicated with CS. Background: The role of thrombolytic therapy in acute pulmonary embolism patients is still controversial considering the occurrence of arrhythmias. Short-term effects of thrombolytics are well-known whereas long-term effects on cardiac electrophysiology have not been reported before. The objective of our study was to assess the arrhythmic differences in pulmonary embolism patients who received thrombolytics followed by anticoagulation or anticoagulation alone.Methods: Sixty patients who received thrombolytic therapy followed by anticoagulation (group 1) and 60 patients who received anticoagulation alone (group 2) were included in this retrospective, single-centre observational study. Twenty-four-hour ambulatory electrocardiography was performed 31 ± 9 months after pulmonary embolism hospitalisation in order to compare arrhythmias originating from both ventricles and atria.Results: The age and gender distribution of the patients were statistically similar. Ventricular arrhythmias were found to be the same between t-PA and non t-PA groups. All types of atrial arrhythmias were found to be increased in non t-PA group even though left and right atrial volume indexes were statistically identical between the two groups.Conclusion: In long-term pulmonary embolism, follow-up thrombolytic therapy was demonstrated to have atrial antiarrhythmic effects. Aim: Among the hand functions, grasping is an important function for the continuity of daily living activities. The assessment of grip strength is crucial for identifying athletic prowess, neuromuscular illnesses, assessing potential side effects following hand surgery, and treatment plans. It was aimed to examine whether bioimpedance analysis (BIA) and upper extremity anthropometric measurements are effected grip strength in young adults. Material and Methods: The study was conducted on 110 young adults, 55 males and 55 females, aged 18-25 years. Individuals with a history of trauma, musculoskeletal problems, and cardiac, respiratory, metabolic, or systemic diseases were not included in the study. Non-flexible tape measure, Harpenden anthropometric set, digital caliper, hand dynamometer, and skinfold caliper were used for anthropometric measurements. Body fat percentage and lean body mass, muscle mass, basal metabolic rate, and total body fluid parameters were investigated by bioelectrical impedance measurement. Three measurements were taken to reduce the error rate, and the average of these measurements was considered. Results: Excluding arm circumference, forearm length, and wrist circumference from anthropometric measurements, and mineral from BIA parameters; anthropometric measurements and BIA results were found to be statistically significantly correlated with grip strength. Conclusion: Upper extremity anthropometric measurements and BIA were associated with grip strength and varied according to gender. Purpose: The double tendon of extensor digitorum longus (EDL) muscle was observed on the left leg of a 80-year-old male cadaver. Methods: A male cadaver 80 years old was subjected to routine anatomical dissection for research and teaching purposes. Results: The main tendon of the EDL muscle started just at the end of the muscle belly. However, the accessory tendon started at the tendinous end of the muscle as a continuation of the muscle. The main and accessory tendons split into two more slips after passing through the same tunnel below the extensor retinaculum. There was also difference on ending of the tendon slips of EDL muscle. The main tendon divided into two tendinous slips on the dorsum of the foot attached to the second and third toes. The accessory tendon divided into two tendinous slips on the dorsum of the foot attached to the fourth and the fifth toes. Conclusion: Knowledge of the tendons and anatomical differences of this muscle is important for surgeons in interventional procedures involving the dorsum of the foot. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The foramen magnum (FM) is a transition zone between the spine and skull. There is a study in the literature showing the golden ratio (4.62) and harmony between both FM and the anteroposterior and transverse diameters of the skull. The aim of this study is to examine the existence of this ratio on CT images and to investigate whether this ratio changes according to the FM shape types. In this study, 402 adult CT images belonging to the Turkish population were examined. Maximum cranial length (MCL), maximum cranial width (MCW) and the FM length (FML) and FM width (FMW) were measured. The different shapes of the FM were macroscopically classified. The number and incidence of each type in the studied skull was registered. In the 402 CT images used in the study, 12 FM shapes were detected. Three of the shape types observed in our study have not been reported in the literature until now, and were found in our study for the first time. In addition, our data supported that by using the ratio of 4.62, there was a great harmony between the skull and FM. The results obtained from the research show that there is a ratio of 4.62 between the basic cranial measurements and FM dimensions in all shapes except triangular shape. It is thought that repeating the calculated coefficients over more different FM shapes will contribute to the effectiveness of the proposed golden ratio. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Objective: It is often useful to know the exact volume of the liver, such as in monitoring the effects of a disease, treatment, dieting regime, training program or surgical application. Some non-invasive methodologies have been previously described which estimate the volume of the liver. However, these preliminary techniques need special software or skilled performers and they are not ideal for daily use in clinical practice. Here, we describe a simple, accurate and practical technique for estimating liver volume without changing the routine magnetic resonance imaging scanning procedure. Materials and methods: In this study, five normal livers, obtained from cadavers, were scanned by 0.5 T MR machine, in horizontal and sagittal planes. The consecutive sections, in 10 mm thickness, were used to estimate the whole volume of the liver by means of the Cavalieri principle. The volume estimations were done by three different performers to evaluate the reproducibility. Results: There are no statistical differences between the performers and real liver volumes (P>0.05). There is also high correlation between the estimates of performers and the real liver volume (r=0.993). Conclusion: We conclude that the combination of MR imaging with the Cavalieri principle is a non-invasive, direct and unbiased technique that can be safely applied to estimate liver volume with a very moderate workload per individual. Personal identification is mostly done by facial assessment. The auricle plays a key role in the evaluation and recognition of the craniofacial complex. The aim of this study was to provide normative database using the measurements of the auricle among young males and females by anthropometric methods. Anthropometric measurements were taken from 115 participants, (56 men and 59 women) between 18-30 years old. Participants werestudents at Yasar Dogu Faculty of Sport Sciences of OndokuzMayis University. Each participant signed an informed consent form and then participated to the study. We found that the mean length of the right and left auricles were 58.30-58.52 mm, the mean width of the right and left auricles were 30.04-29.73 mm, the mean length of right and left lobules were 16.05-16.45 mm, and the mean width of the right and left lobules were 17.61-18.76 mm in female participants. The mean length of right and left auricles were 62.33-62.49 mm, the mean width of the right and left auricles were 33.60-33.96 mm, the mean length of right and left lobules were 18.49-18.11 mm, and the mean width of the right and left lobules were 19.19-20.47 mm in male participants. The data obtained from the present study may be useful for further studies. Also, the results may be useful for reconstructive surgeons to analyze the size and shape of the auricle. Aims: Early identification of patients at risk of adverse outcomes may increase the survival rates in patients with upper gastrointestinal bleeding (UGIB), but this can be difficult to predict in emergencies. The aim of the study is to evaluate immature granulocyte (IG), which can be obtained from simple hemogram tests in patients with UGIB, in terms of clinical use and as a mortality marker. Materials and methods: The patients diagnosed with UGIB between March 1, 2019, and September 30, 2019, were evaluated retrospectively. Demographic characteristics, causes of hemorrhage, clinical presentations, hemogram, and biochemistry values at ED admission and 30-day mortality status of the patients were examined. We divided the patients into groups according to their mortality status, and the groups were compared among themselves in terms of parameters. Results: A total of 213 patients who met the inclusion criteria were included in the study. Of these patients, 139 (65.3%) were male and the mean age was 65.05 ± 16.7 years. Fifteen (7%) of them were in the nonsurvival group, while 198 (93%) were in the survival group. The efficacy of both the IG count (IGC) and IG% in predicting mortality was statistically significant (p = 0.002, p = 0.008, respectively). The sensitivity and specificity for the IGC were found as 60% and 84.4; for the IG%, they were found as 66.7% and 75.7%, respectively. Conclusion: IGC and IG% are independent risk factors for the 30-day mortality status. These measurements are obtained from simple hemogram tests and may be useful for the evaluation of mortality in patients with UGIB. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Abstract: Introduction and Objectives: Recent studies suggest that an increase in red cell distribution width (RDW) levels have a better prognostic value than a single measurement. In the current study, we investigated the predictive value of increasing RDW levels for mortality in acute pulmonary emboli (APE) patients. Materials and Methods: For the study, 199 APE patients who were hospitalized were enrolled. Patients were divided into three groups according to their admission and 24th hour RDW values. Patients for whom both RDW values normal were put in group 1 (normal); patients with admission RDW > 14.5% and decreased 24th hour RDW values were in group 2 (decreased); patients whose 24th hour RDW levels were >14.5% and increased compared to their baseline RDW measurement were in group 3 (increased). Clinical and laboratory findings and 30‐day mortality of these groups were compared. Results: Mean patient age was 68 ± 16, and 48% of the patients were male. There were 98 patients (49%) in group 1, 59 patients (30%) in group 2, and 42 patients (21%) in group 3. Patients in group 3 were older, had lower eGFR and hemoglobin values, and had higher brain type natriuretic peptide values. Mortality rate was higher in group 3 (0%, 3.4%, 19%, respectively, P < .0001). Increase in RDW was independently related to mortality [HR: 4.9, (95%CI: 1.2‐18, P = .02)]. Conclusion: APE patients with increasing RDW levels have higher mortality rates. Serial measurements of RDW may help us determine patients with high risk for mortality. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

We evaluated whether primary percutaneous coronary intervention (pPCI) during off-hours is related to an increased incidence of contrast-induced nephropathy (CIN). We retrospectively analyzed the incidence of CIN mortality among 2552 patients with consecutive ST-segment elevation myocardial infarction treated with pPCI during regular hours (weekdays 8:00 am to 5:00 pm) and off-hours (weekdays 5:01 pm to 7:59 am, weekends and holidays). Patients in the off-hour group were more frequently admitted with acute heart failure symptoms (16.4% vs 7.8%, P < .001) and more contrast was injected during the procedure (235.2 ± 82.3 vs 248.9 ± 87.1 mL, P = .002). The frequency of CIN between on-hour and off-hour groups was similar (7.1% vs 6.2%, P = .453), but there was a trend toward higher in-hospital mortality when pPCI was performed during off-hours (1.9% vs 0.7%, P = .081). Off-hour pPCI was not associated with an increased risk of CIN (odds ratio: 1.051, P = .833). The incidence of CIN did not increase during off-hours, and off-hour pPCI is nota risk factor for CIN, despite an apparent increase in contrast media use during off-hour pPCI. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Objective: The size and shape of paranasal sinuses are especially relevant when considering endoscopic sinus surgery. For this reason, the size of the paranasal sinuses has been the subject of many studies, none of which has used stereological methods to estimate the volume. In the present stereological study, we estimated the volume of paranasal sinuses of normal males and females. Material and Methods: We used a combination of the Cavalieri principle and computer tomography scans taken from 39 male and 38 female patients to estimate the volumes of frontal, maxillary, ethmoidal and sphenoidal sinuses. Results: The mean volumes of frontal, maxillary, ethmoidal and sphenoidal sinuses were estimated bilaterally, producing mean volumes of 11.6+/-0.8, 35.9+/-1.3, 11.8+/-0.4 and 13.6+/-0.7 cm(3), respectively. When the correlations between estimated volumes were analyzed statistically a positive relation was found for the paranasal sinuses. The size of the sinuses tends to decrease with age. Conclusion: The findings of the present study using the stereological methods could provide data for the evaluation of normal and pathological volumes of the paranasal sinuses. Background: Pulmonary fibrosis (PF) induced by anticancerogenic bleomycin (BLM) is one of the more common side effects encountered during cancer treatment. It has been suggested in the last decades that the main responsible agent in PF is reactive oxygen species which were generated also in normal physiological conditions in the human body. In this experimental study, we investigated the preventive or attenuating effects of caffeic acid phenethyl ester (CAPE) that has been demonstrated to have anti-inflammatory, cytocytatic, anticancerogenic, antiprolipherative and antioxidant effects on BLM-induced PF. Methods: Thirty-six Sprague–Dawley rats were divided randomly into four groups as sham operation, BLM, BLM+vitamin E (vit E), and BLM+CAPE groups. BLM (7.5 mg/kg, single dose) was applied intratracheally, and CAPE and vit E intraperitoneally in the appropriate groups. At the end of the fibrosis processes, lung tissues were removed and the levels of tissues hydroxyproline (OH-proline), malondialdehyde (MDA) and NO as well as the activities of superoxide dismutase (SOD), catalase (CAT) and myeloperoxidase (MPO) were determined. Also, the weights of the rats were recorded at 7th and 14th days of the experiments. Results: BLM application to the rats resulted in a significant increase in the OH-proline level as compared to the controls. Administration of CAPE and vit E led to the remarkable reduction of total lung OH-proline levels compared to the rats treated with BLM alone (p<0.0001). There were a decreases in antioxidant enzyme (SOD and CAT) activities while an increase in MPO activity in BLM group was found vs. the control group (p<0.0001). CAPE had a regulator effect on these parameters: the increase in CAT and SOD activities and the decrease in MPO activity were seen after CAPE application. NO, MDA and OH-proline levels were increased in BLM group vs. the control group. CAPE was more effective in decreasing the tissue levels of NO, MDA and OH-proline than vit E. MPO activity, as a good marker of neutrophil sequestration to the tissues, in the BLM group was decreased by CAPE approximately to the control group. Conclusion: We suggest that CAPE is more effective on the prevention of BLM-induced fibrosis via antioxidant and free radical scavenger properties than vit E at the doses used in the present study. CAPE has some attenuating effects on BLM-induced PF affecting both oxidant and antioxidant systems as well as neutrophils sequestration. [Copyright &y& Elsevier]
