Besides, the detector also exhibits good linearity, long-term stability, ultra-broad spectral detection ability as well as the excellent thermal detection performance, with the voltage sensitivity is much higher than that of commercial Gordon gauge. In this manuscript, the graphite/resin composite plates were prepared via a facile ball milling strategy. The needle coke (NC) as a conductive additive was studied on effects of treated by ball milling on the electrical conductivity, mechanical property of the composite plates. All the characterizations showed that after ball milling, the NC particles have smaller particle size, and more uniform particle size distribution, which enhanced the interfacial adhesion between particles and resin. Due to the difference in shape and size between the auxiliary conductive filler and flake graphite, the addition of NC particles can easily fill the gap between flake‐like graphite and phenolic resin. The uniform distribution of these fillers improves the cross‐linking density, and the conductive path was added between the flake‐like graphite and the resin, which improved the electric conductivity of composit plate from 26.32 S cm−1 to 149.23 S cm−1. Such a prominent performance was attributed to the synergistic effects between the uniformly incorporated NC and the graphite/resin composite adhesive system. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Anion exchange membrane water electrolysis (AEMWE) is a feasible pathway to industrial-scale production of hydrogen due to the use of low cost, non-precious metal catalysts. In this study, we demonstrate a stable NiFe 2 O 4 anodic oxygen evolution reaction (OER) catalyst to achieve durable and efficient AEMWE via a simple strategy combining hydrothermal and thermal reduction reactions. The prepared NiFe 2 O 4 -50 catalyst, with polyhedral-sphere hybrid morphology and abundant oxygen vacancies, exhibits an overpotential of 280 mV at 50 mA cm−2 and a Tafel slope of only 44.6 mV dec−1 for OER. Moreover, its use as oxygen evolution electrode in AEMWE cell assembled with a Pt/C cathode show excellent water electrolysis performance with a current density of high to 4 A cm−2 at 1.89 V, a cell voltage of only 1.64 V at 1 A cm−2, as well as good long-term stability over >1000 h of continuous water electrolysis under a current density of 1 A cm−2. The newly developed NiFe 2 O 4 catalyst demonstrates excellent AEMWE performance and has a potential application for practical large-scale hydrogen production. Purpose: The purpose of this paper is to share the experience of a university library in response to the COVID-19 pandemic since early March 2020. The paper describes the library's position during the crisis and illustrates the uncharted challenges that the pandemic has posed to its digital services. Furthermore, it details how the library has adapted some existing services into a digital format and explored new initiatives/practices to support the university's full online teaching and learning since March 23, 2020. Design/methodology/approach: This paper describes the library's various digital services that are used to meet the needs of its end-users during the COVID-19 pandemic. The approaches used are the authors' personal experiences working at an academic library, observations of the library's responses with regards to its digital services, as well as their reflections on what can be considered for development now and in the future. It highlights the current initiatives and best practices for digital library services during a public health crisis. Findings: This paper aims to make other university libraries aware of what the library has implemented with providing digital services to its teaching faculty and students during the pandemic. It also describes the challenges and implications for the library professionals working in-house and remotely. Originality/value: This paper is of great value in providing insights and practical solutions responding to the global health crisis for other libraries that are coping with the similar challenges for digital library services. Purpose: The purpose of this paper is to introduce the pilot project of collection assessment performed by an academic library for the Computer Information Science (CIS) Department specifically and share the experience involved in this assessment. Design/methodology/approach: In this descriptive research, the library gathered and analyzed a set of evaluation reports for CIS-related print and electronic materials. This assessment includes analyses of physical items, periodicals, electronic resources, peers' databases, faculty syllabi, as well as departmental allocation fund. Findings: This project shows the importance of collaboration between the library and academic departments on collection evaluation and assessment. It demonstrates that the assessments of a department-specific collection can provide the library with insights into the quality of the collection and help librarians better understand the information requirements of the faculty and students in the department. By analyzing the data collected in the assessment, the library can spend the tight budget on the most needed core materials related to the curriculum and research of the department. This project provides a good example for future routine assessments. Practical implications: The procedure, results and future work of this assessment provide other academic libraries with insights into and practical solutions to department-specific collection assessments. Originality/value: The study describes a set of collection assessment activities specific to a disciplinary department undertaken by Spiva Library. Few studies have been conducted to study department-specific collection assessments. In this manuscript, the Co@CNTs catalysts were prepared via a facile strategy that encapsulated metallic cobalt within unique bamboo-like carbon nanotubes. By tuning the content of the encapsulated metal, the physicochemical properties of the carbon nanotubes can be effectively optimized. Techniques such as TEM, BET, XRD, Raman, and XPS were employed to characterize the as-prepared catalysts. It could be found that the metal particles promoted the formation of bamboo-like carbon nanotubes. Moreover, the correlation between the encapsulated cobalt content and catalytic activity have also been explored and the optimal catalyst exhibited excellent catalytic performance for selective oxidation of hydrocarbons under molecular oxygen and solvent-free conditions, especially for ethylbenzene, the conversion was up to 71.5% with 93.4% of selectivity for acetophenone. Such a high catalytic activity was attributed to the synergistic interaction between the uniformly incorporated N atoms in the unique bamboo-like carbon nanotubes and the encapsulated metallic cobalt. This paper proposes an alternative strategy of finite-control-set model-predictive torque control (MPTC) to reduce the computational burden and the torque ripple and decouple the switching frequency from the controller sampling time. An improved discrete space-vector modulation (DSVM) technique is utilized to synthesize a large number of virtual voltage vectors. The deadbeat (DB) technique is used to optimize the voltage vector selection process, avoiding enumerating all the feasible voltage vectors. With this proposed method, only three voltage vectors are tested in each predictive step. Based on the improved DSVM method, the three candidate voltage vectors are calculated by using a novel algebraic way. This new strategy has the benefits of both the MPTC method and the DB method. This paper proposes a dynamic optimization strategy of finite control set-model predictive torque control for permanent magnet synchronous machines, which takes into account the inverter losses and machine losses simultaneously. In order to reduce the switching losses (or to optimize the switching sequence) of the inverter, a recognized and feasible constrain which considers the accumulated ON/OFF times of the switches is implemented. The machine losses are taken into account by utilizing an optimal stator flux reference. An alternative loss model control method is proposed to calculate the optimal stator flux reference, which combines the conventional maximum torque/ampere method and the conventional loss model control method. Furthermore, a discrete-time machine model is introduced, which can reduce the predictive error at relative low switching frequency. This paper proposes a control strategy of finite-control-set model predictive torque control (FCS-MPTC) with a deadbeat (DB) solution for permanent-magnet synchronous motor drives. By using a DB solution, the process of selection of the best switching vector is optimized. The predicted DB voltage sector consisting of the desired voltage vector (VV) avoids the complete enumeration for testing all feasible VVs, which relieves the big calculation effort of the traditional FCS-MPTC method. Purpose -- The purpose of this paper is to describe the Electronic Theses and Dissertations program implemented and managed by the Indiana State University since 2009. The paper illustrates issues relating to the background, policies, platform, workflow and cataloging, as well as the publication and preservation of graduate scholarship. Design/methodology/approach -- The authors examined many aspects of the Electronic Theses and Dissertations program and addressed issues dealt before, during and after the publication of the electronic theses and dissertations collection. The approaches the authors utilized are literature review and personal management experience from working on the program. Findings -- Implementing an Electronic Theses and Dissertations program involves providing a series of management services. These services include developing relevant policies, implementing an archiving and publication platform and creating submission and publishing workflows, as well as cataloging, disseminating and preserving the student collection. Openly publishing the collection through a range of access points significantly increases its visibility and accessibility. Adopting several archival and preservation strategies ensures the long-term readiness of the collection. Originality/value -- This paper will provide useful practices for implementing an ETD program to those institutions new to the ETD initiative process. This paper introduces two different novel designs of interior permanent-magnet synchronous machines with concentrated windings, which are attractive to a self-sensing control system. The new machines have some advantages: lower subharmonics of air-gap flux density and magnetomotive force and lower machine losses, including eddy current losses. The machines have been adapted for self-sensing applications by using a high-frequency (HF) injection method. The main machine parameters affecting the estimation accuracy are analyzed such as fundamental frequency saliencies, cross saturation, HF inductance, HF resistance, and harmonic distortion due to multisaliencies. The experimental results verify that the novel machines can reach very high performance with good self-sensing properties regarding the accuracy of the estimated position/speed of electric drives even without the multisaliency decoupling compensation method. • One-dimensional vortex-arrays with singularity tuned from 1 to 4 have been achieved. • Four-singularity vortex-array with peak power of 5.56 kW has been achieved. • A method for developing pulsed one-dimensional vortex-array with tunable singularity. One-dimensional (1D) vortex-arrays with multiple-singularity aligning along a line are flexible for microparticle manipulation, high capacity storage, material processing. Moreover, a high peak power one-dimensional vortex-array with large singularity enables assemble processing. The development of a miniature laser to directly generate one-dimensional vortex-array with tunable singularity is of great value for practical applications. However, solid-state lasers for this purpose was limited by the low power, low efficiency and less singularity achieved. Here, we demonstrate a simple and robust method for directly generating one-dimensional vortex-array with singularity tunable upon to 4 in a tilted Nd:YAG/Cr4+:YAG composite crystal passively Q-switched (PQS) microchip laser, irradiated by a decentered annular beam (DAB). The singularity of one-dimensional vortex-array can be tuned from 1 to 4 by controlling the offset of collimating lens, Δ x. The average output power of one-dimensional vortex-array with 4 singularities is 0.76 W at P in = 5.66 W, the optical conversion efficiency is 13.4%. One-dimensional vortex-array with 4 singularities processes pulse width of 3.5 ns, peak power of 5.56 kW. The achieved results suggest the potential that DAB can be used a practical pump beam in PQS microchip laser for generating nanosecond, high peak power one-dimensional vortex-arrays with tunable singularity. The Au/ZnSe/ZnO heterojunction material with less transition zone on the two-phase interface was successfully prepared by the in-situ replacement of zinc oxide by Se2-. Moreover, the heterojunction formed by in-situ substitution can effectively reduce the interface transfer resistance and increase the life of carriers. The photocurrent of Au/ZnSe/ZnO is almost twice that of Au/ZnO, due to the formation of heterojunction ZnSe interface. As a result, the carrier lifetime of the material is increased by nearly 2.7 times (126.26 s/46.83 s) compared to Au/ZnO. Ascorbic acid is a very important compound for human metabolism, but there is no simple and rapid method to detect ascorbic acid. Au/ZnSe/ZnO is used as the photoanode of the photoelectric non-enzymatic sensor system for AA detection. The sensitivity of Au/ZnSe/ZnO/FTO-based PEC AA sensor is 113.75 μA mM−1 cm−2, exhibiting its advantages of fast, sensitive and high response. • Au/ZnSe/ZnO multi-element composite material changes the electron transport path and improves the carrier transfer. • 2. ZnSe resistance to interface recombination effectively hindered the recombination of carriers. • Enhancing the absorption of visible light, improving the carrier lifetime and forming the two-phase low interface transition zone all enhance the photoelectrochemical performance. Highly active Pt‐based intermetallic nanoparticles (i‐NPs) loaded on stable supports have garnered considerable interest as promising oxygen reduction reaction (ORR) catalysts for proton‐exchange‐membrane fuel cells (PEMFCs). Herein, thermostable tellurium (Te) is vapor‐deposited onto commercial conductive carbon to anchor high‐temperature‐synthesized Pt3Co i‐NPs. Advanced characterization and density functional theory (DFT) calculations demonstrate that the binding energy of Pt 4f and Co 2p shift positively by 0.12 and 0.95 eV after the introduction of Te in carbon support, promoting the formation of Pt─Te bonds, which enhances the metal–support interactions (MSIs) in Pt3Co/Te‐C (with a more negative binding energy of −10.28 eV). The average size of well‐dispersed Pt3Co i‐NPs (≈3.9 nm) on Te─C is considerably smaller than that of Pt3Co i‐NPs (≈9.1 nm) on commercial carbon. The specific activity of Pt3Co/Te‐C decreases by only 1.5% after 100,000 ultra‐long voltage‐accelerated cycles, while the morphology remains almost unchanged. The membrane electrode assembly using Pt3Co/Te‐C as a cathode demonstrates impressive activity (power density of 2.32 W cm−2@4 A cm−2 and mass activity of 0.50 A mgPt−1@0.9 V) and robust durability (mass activity@0.9 V loss of 26% after 30,000 cycles with intact L12 ordered structure) in H2–O2 operation, significantly exceeding the DOE 2025 requirements. Ether-free proton exchange membranes (PEMs) based on aromatic polymers are considered as potential alternatives to perfluorosulfonic acid (PFSA) PEMs due to their low cost, less reactant crossing, exceptional chemical stability and outstanding thermal stability. Herein, a series of high-performance sulfonated poly(biphenyl alkylene) (BPSA-PT- x) membranes with full carbon chain backbones were synthesized to investigate the effect of different ratios of hydrophobic components on membrane properties. Among the prepared membranes, the BPSA-PT-10 % PEM with the highest proton conductivity (311 mS cm-1 at 80 °C water) possessed excellent dimensional stability (in-plane swelling rate ≤19.7 %, through-plane swelling rate ≤24.9 %), mechanical properties (elongation at break: 89.8 % in wet state), thermal stability (glass transition temperature >450 °C) and low H 2 crossover (1.80 mA cm-2). Further, the assembled H 2 /O 2 fuel cell based on BPSA-PT-10 % PEM exhibited competitive performance with a peak power density of 2.62 W cm-2. This research aims to correlate the macroscopic fracture phenomenon with its microscopic fracture mechanism for an advanced high-strength steel (AHSS) TRIP 780 sheet by applying a combined experimental-numerical approach. Six specimens with different shapes were tensioned to fracture and the main deformation areas of specimens were subjected to stress states ranging from lower to higher stress triaxiality. The final fracture surface feature for each specimen was obtained to characterize the macroscopic fracture modes at different stress states. The scanning electron microscope (SEM) fractographies of fracture surfaces were detected to reveal the microscopic fracture mechanisms. The stress triaxiality evolution was applied to correlate of fracture mode and fracture mechanism by comparing the macroscopic fracture features as well as micro-defect changes. An increase of stress triaxiality leads to voids extension and then results in a voids-dominant fracture. The micro-shear-slip tends to appear in the stress triaxiality level lower than that of pure shear stress state. The fracture behavior of a practice deformation process was the result of interplay between shear-slip fracture and void-dominant fracture. The unified relationship between average void sizes and stress triaxiality was obtained. The void growth was predicted by the Rice–Tracey model with higher precision. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

For salient-pole permanent magnet synchronous motor (PMSM), the amplitude of extended back electromotive force (EEMF) is determined by rotor speed, stator current and its derivative value. Theoretically, even at extremely low speed, the back EEMF can be detected if the current in q-axis is changing. However, it is difficult to detect the EEMF precisely due to the current at low speed. In this paper, novel full-order multi-input and multi-output discrete-time sliding mode observer (SMO) is built to detect the rotor position. With the proposed rotor position estimation technique, the motor can start up from standstill and reverse between positive and negative directions without a position sensor. In this work, a mesoporous zinc oxide containing different concentrations of oxygen vacancies (V O) was controlled synthesized via low temperature annealing. XPS, Raman spectroscopy and electron paramagnetic resonance spectroscopy were employed to investigate the changes of V O concentrations following the increase of annealing temperature. According to the experiment, the highest concentration of V O was obtained at the annealing temperature of 350 °C. The relationship between photoelectrochemical biosensor performance and V O concentration was discussed in detail in terms of electrochemical measurements and V O characterization. Results showed that increasing the V O could result in high carrier intensity, active sites and catalytic rate constant. To achieve precise voltage value for modern model-based motor control strategies, an accurate voltage distortion compensation method for voltage source inverters is proposed in this paper. The voltage distortion principles of a mosfet-based inverter and an IGBT-based inverter are analyzed and compared. A graphical solution of compensating voltage error is proposed, all the voltage distortion factors are considered. A current observer is designed to overcome time delay, achieve precise current in each switching period for compensation. The proposed method is of high precision, intuitive, and easy to implement.
